[The top of the sphere pops open slightly and lifts, revealing a cylindrical "head" and two camera eyes. The head slowly turns 360 degrees]

I have no idea . . . yet. *Mell strides over to eye the little robot, then cautiously reaches out to tap the top of it with her sword, squinting at the pair of eyes peering out*

Luana went over too, kneeling on the ground beside it once she got there. The pain in her head vanished and a grin spread across her face.
"Oh, cool! A little robot!"

[As the woman came over with the sword, the head shot back into the body. A panel in the side slid up and a blue screen lit up. It began to flash red, with white letters reading:
DANGER! >_< ]

*Mell quirks an eyebrow at Lu's declaration, but then turns her attention back to X12, chuckling in suprise and amusement at it's reaction to her* Am I ever ... *she sheathes her sword, and bends down to scoop the robot up off the floor*
What a fascinating little creation this is! You say it's a . . robot, Luana? *She turns it this way and that to examine it, then starts shaking it to see what sort of sound it will make*

"Yes!" A note of panic crept into her voice. "And I don't think it likes that! Maybe you should put it down. It might try to shock you, or something."

*Mell blinks as the screen changes, then chuckles* Damage to you, or to me? *she asks it, and stops shaking it, but doesn't put it down yet*
*She looks over to Luana* It's not flesh, yet it can communicate . . . if we weren't where we are I'd swear it's sorcery. You're familiar with this sort of contraption?
... I wonder if it comes apart .....

"Well, it might." Luana thought for a second. "I can't think of any machine I have seen that doesn't."
She was still looking up at Melliandra from her place on the floor.

Well then! *grinning rather diabolically, Mell tosses the little robot to Luana, unclasps her cloak and throws it over the back of a chair, and then plunks down on the floor across from her* Let's see if we can't discover what's making this little oddity work.

A little surprised, Lu caught x12 and held it close. "Um, okay, I guess."
Gently she set it down on the floor between them. "Maybe we should start by talking to it."

*Mell sighs slightly to herself* Ahhhh, for the simplest of spells. . . .! *then shakes her head*
Your way, then, for the moment.
*and then she addresses X12, dryly* Come out, come out, won't you dear?

For Melliandra it didn't seem to work, so Lu tried. Her voice changed to a gentle one, like adults might use to address small children.
"It's alright now, little robot. You're safe," she said, smiling. "You can come out. Will you come out and talk to me?"
