PostPosted: Thu Dec 27, 2007 8:13 pm

No, I didn't… Argh. :XP: I missed a lot of the last series, now I've missed the new episode, as well. redface Part of my things-to-do this holidays, is to get onto YouTube and watch all the episodes I missed this year.

… *pause* …

*Googles* …It's OK. I can watch Voyage of the Damned on New Year's Day. 3nodding biggrin

She hasn't come by in a billion years. I guess being a mod for a bunch of annoying kids on Menewsha is better than hanging around us. cry

really? Damn their eyes!!! Although have you tried recently, you don't have to log in or anything now...just click and go!

*UPDATE*

Can I download programmes from outside the UK?

The BBC uses Geo-IP technology to identify where your are based on the location of your internet service provider (ISP). This ensures that only internet users in the UK can enjoy programmes on BBC iPlayer.

If you download a programme to your laptop or a portable hard drive, you can watch this wherever you are in the world. However, you will only be able to download new programmes once you return to the UK.

Why do I need to be in the UK to use BBC iPlayer?

Rights agreements mean that BBC iPlayer is only available to users in the UK. However, BBC Worldwide is working on an international version, which we will make available as soon as possible.

OK, I watched Voyage of the Damned today, and… I'm not really sure what I think of it.

I liked Kylie, I thought she interacted very well with the Doctor, and the overall plot was good… great opening sequence, with the Tardis apparently being rammed by The Titanic. Some nice characters, notably the little cyborg, and the Host were suitably scary robot/villains. Max, head of the company (haha… xp ) was creepy, which was just right. Nice suspense at the start, building up what the Captain was up to, and why… setting the scene for evil-doings. I liked when the Doctor turned around, in response to the waste-of-space businessman who asked why the Doctor thought he could take charge of the situation, and announced not just that he was "The Doctor", but rattled off his entire qualifications for the role of leader… leaving everybody gobsmacked. cool There were some typical touches of tongue-in-cheek humour, and a good pace overall.

So, lots of good things there… but why do I feel a bit disappointed? Can't really put my finger on it, except some of the scenes that should have been wrenching and involving with the characters, weren't… and considering that it was a long episode for the Christmas special, there was more time for that level of involvement to develop. I've found myself more engrossed in a normal-length episode, than this one. Maybe it was just me… these things are so subjective.

I was glad to see it anyway… still have half a dozen episodes to catch up on, from the last series. Hope to work on that this week. wink

A guy in the DWG posted a very detailed review of the special.
I know it's on YouTube--I've managed to look at about twenty minutes of it so far (up to when the three projectiles are about to hit the ship) but it takes forever to get the parts to load. :X
I think RTD messes with us way too much--he does things knowing full well what we'll think it's about & then does something else a lot less cool instead. Like building up with that whole "you are not alone" thing, giving us a surprisingly wacko Master & then killing him right off. When he had a ship bash into the side of the TARDIS, do you think it's a coincidence he made it have the same name & appearance as a ship we've been told more than once the Doctor (probably #9) was on when it sank? Everybody's been hoping for a 9/10 crossover! That doesn't increase anybody's enjoyment of what it really was. I'd rather have had an actual Titanic story, with a 9/10 or possibly 8/10 crossover!

I agree, and that's a good point (several good points… wink ). That may be why I didn't enjoy it so much overall… it was shaping up to look like an actual Titanic story… then went somewhere else, but it all seemed slightly lacking in heart. Even a "parallel universe" Titanic story would have been better than what we actually got.
