Luke rested a bit before speaking again. He still felt weak so he had to pace himself. "My... My demon.... up against.... demon hunter.... then... turned into... black... serpent... bit my... ne..." this is where Luke's strength gave out. He had tried his hardest to stay conscious, but he couldn't sustain it anymore as he passed out.

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Anya sat up when Luke sagged against Jethrow, clearly out. "Jethrow, should I look up black serpents?" she asked softly, and he nodded. She didn't leave, though, because they would still have to figure out what to do with him for the time being. "We'll take him to his room," the wizard said, sliding one of Luke's arms over his shoulders and standing a bit to hoist him up. Quickly, Anya bolted to her feet and copied her teacher's actions, and inch by inch the two got to Luke's room. The door opened, and they got him to his bed. "Anything else?" There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow shook his head at his student, waving her off to her research. A black serpent... A black serpent... Why does that sound so familiar? I know that a black bull is to represent the Lightness, and a white one is Darkness. What is a black serpent? With his old eyes, he would be less effective in researching, but he was sure Anya was much better at taking care of sick people. He created a chair out of thin air, sitting down in it and putting is staff in front of him, staring at the intricate wood-work. "If only I had good luck," he muttered.

Luke didn't stir when the two moved him into his bed. He was still out cold and he wasn't likely to wake soon.
Lunora woke after a while. She yawned some, feeling a lot better. She got out of bed and a pair of slippers on before leaving her room. She walked down the hall and saw Luke's door was open. She went in to find Anya and Jethrow there. And Luke was out cold in his bed. "What happened here?"

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Anya didn't look up from the book she was reading when she heard Lunora's voice. It was hard enough as it was to concentrate on the research when she remembered just why she was looking up a black serpent. What in the world did this? Why? What was the point?! Sighing, she flipped the page frustratedly and scanned up and down, again finding nothing. There were rituals for summoning dark spirits, none of which were classified as having a "black serpent" form. There were potions that created the illusion of being protected by a black serpent, but she hardly believed this was the same situation. Damn... There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. "Ah, Lunora, you're feeling better," Jethrow said, relieved, as he stood and walked over to the other sibling. "Your brother collapsed from the influences of a dark spirit; he's out of danger now, but we're still trying to figure out the cause," he said, gesturing to Anya where she sat, flipping pages in an angry fashion, finally dropping the book in her lap to the floor and picking another from the growing stack to her left. "I see you're feeling better, as well," he said with a strained smile.

Lunora stepped over the book and to her brother's side. She sat on the bed and tucked him in, then looking to the other two. "Why would a spirit attack him? He wouldn't do anything to a spirit or anything else." she said worriedly.

There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow sighed as Lunora immediately moved herself to her brother's side. "We're still not sure. Your brother was... Incapable of supplying us sufficient information. Anya is researching everything she can, but it might take a while. Once Luke is conscious again, hopefully we'll be given some more... Revealing information." Jethrow sighed as he moved to stand behind Lunora, looking down at the unconscious young man, as well. He didn't want to give Lunora details of the attack, so she wouldn't be unnecessarily worried; he also didn't want to sound incompetent, either. After all, they'd had little time to begin their efforts.

Lunora sighed and laid down at Luke's side, refusing to leave him. Ever to confirm this, "I'm not going to leave here until he's better." the fox mumbled, her head resting on his chest, listening to his slow heartbeat.

There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow nodded at Lunora and sat in the chair by the bed. "That's perfectly acceptable. I'm sure we can ask the kitchens to bring your meals here; and his once he awakens," he said, closing his eyes briefly and brushing his fingers over his forehead. The page-flipping continued, and Jethrow was left to thinking, something that didn't appeal to the old wizard right then. This is certainly worrisome; if there's any spirits around here themselves, this could affect us all. Jethrow felt the same disturbing and sinister feeling as before, and he looked up at the ceiling with a scrutinizing eye. There was something out there watching them all, and Luke was a demonstration of its power. If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Any saw Jethrow's movement from the corner of her eye, and what seemed liked a breeze rippled through the room, shuffling the pages of the book. Confused, she flipped back to the page she'd been on, holding firmly to the corner, even as the breeze picked up. "I think we figured out what the black serpent is," she said softly, forcing the pages down to show a portrait of a tapestry. It was dated to almost fourteen-thousand years ago, and the tapestry held an obvious story. There was a serpent, twisting around five trees, each the obvious representation of an element. One was a white-bark, with a tornado twirling across it; the next was red-wood with flames around the base; the third was a blue-tinged wood with rain circled around like a halo; the second to last was green and mossy with vines of flowers hanging from the branches; and finally, a purple-light covered tree stood last. There was a white bull on one side of the picture, snarling at the black bull on the other side. But the serpent seemed to be snickering at them all.

Lunora had fallen asleep by this point, clinging to her unconscious brother. He was the anchor in her life and she needed him badly. She didn't want to lose her brother like she lost her mom and dad.

There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow looked over at the sleeping siblings briefly before standing and shuffling slowly to Anya's side. The portrait was intricate, as was the tapestry depicted, and for some reason it seemed painfully familiar to the old man. He placed a finger tip on the head of the serpent, traced a line to the white bull, and another line to the black one. "I'm not sure if this is significant, but there is an exact triangle between the three ancient creatures," he said, taking the book from Anya. He inspected her face for a moment and sighed, almost exasperatedly. "I'll stay here to keep an eye on them; you get some rest. After all, you've extended your powers farther than usual today." Once the fairy was gone, he sat down in the chair she'd occupied and began to look for anything else relevant, or not, among the picture. I'll have to make sure this serpent matches Luke's memory, of course. If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Anya pushed her door open carefully, stepping in and immediately getting jumped on by Searan. Laughing quietly, she pushed the door closed and knelt down, hugging the creature carefully. Now, where was that stone we were looking at? she thought, crawling over to her bed and searching between her pillows a few times. Sighing exasperatedly, she leaned against her bed, letting Searan rest his head in her lap. Bored, she played with the edges of her sheets, and accidentally tugged the corner up. "There it is!" she exclaimed, reaching for the black stone and holding it in her palm, rolling it around. Rolling it around, she ran her fingers over the sharp corners, accidentally cutting her thumb. Muttering angrily, she dropped the stone again, standing and heading to her wash-basin, running the finger through the water there, and she looked around. Finding a few hair-ribbons that she never wore, she wrapped one around her thumb, tying it tightly. "Sharp rock."

Luke began to wake after a while, him groaning softly, rubbing his eyes. He felt something on his chest and looked to see his sister sound asleep on top of him. He smiled some, petting her as he glanced around to see he was in his room.

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Satisfied with her makeshift bandage, Anya turned around with her arms crossed, glaring a little at the stone that had cut her. In the firelight from her fireplace, the stone glimmered and shone, reminding her strongly of obsidian. Curiously, she stepped a few steps closer, crouching down and resting her hands on the ground before her knees, tilting her head over the rock. She could easily distinguish each individual flame reflected, as well as a spot whose light was blocked by her hair's shadow. She reached out one finger, pushing the stone softly so that it moved from her shadow, and the flames reflected covered the whole side. Searan came crawling over on his belly, sniffing curiously and nudging the edge with his nose. "Careful, it's sharp!" Anya warned, pushing the creature's nose a bit to shield him from the sharp edges. Suddenly, the flames rose on the edge of the rock, and were suddenly put out, plunging the room into absolute darkness. Surprised, Anya yelped and jumped back, equally startling Searan, who launched himself into her arms, knocking them both against the cabinet of her washbasin. Opening her eyes after the impact, the girl gasped. The stone now reflected something silver, like a pool, and she leaned as much as she could over the dragon-like thing in her lap to see. Blinking movements; the reflection was a silver eye, looking right at her. There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow heard rustling and looked up, relieved to see that Luke had awakened. "Are you feeling better? Can you speak? Do you recall anything else?" the wizard asked hurriedly in a rushed, firm voice, standing and moving to the edge of the bed. Jethrow glanced at Lunora for a brief moment, before resting the book in his hands on the edge of the bed by the girl, his fingers still holding it open to the place with the tapestry. If Luke was well enough, he intended to get his answer, but he was almost certain Anya had found the serpent in this portrait. I should feel relieved, shouldn't I? But no; an uneasy feeling has taken over my stomach and my chest. What could possibly be going on here? There was a loud, eery sound in the hall, and the old man's head snapped up. By the way the tapestries, torches, and carpets in the hall reacted, it was clear that a strong wind was ripping down the corridor. There are no windows in this hall!

Luke yawned some as Jethrow questioned him. "I don't remember much. I remember the dream. That a black serpent appeared and bit my neck. Does that have any signifigance?" he asked the wizard, alerted to the sound as well. This was unnerving. He gripped the wizard's sleeve. "Go to Anya. This could be bad."

There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow released the book and moved to the chair he'd been sitting in, grabbing the staff and hurrying out into the hall. The wind was still ripping down the hall, and back up again, almost like an oblong tornado. Holding his free hand out, the wizard forced the winds to cease and allow himself to pass. There was no light under Anya's door, and Jethrow quickly twisted the knob, finding it locked. Of course it would be, he thought angrily, rapping his staff against the door and forcing it to open. Suddenly, the winds cease altogether, and the castle fell to an eerie silence. There was nobody in Anya's room except some type of dragon creature, who was sniffing around, bemused and clearly frightened. The animal whimpered at the sight of Jethrow, but its nose caught a whiff of something, and it hesitantly approached, taking a quick snuffle of the sleeve Luke had touched before skittering back a few steps. "Come little one," Jethrow commanded, leaving the room, unsurprised to hear the shuffling steps of the thing behind him. He entered Luke's room again, and the thing ran towards the bed, putting its head up by Lunora and smiling a toothy smile at Luke, its tongue lolling out. "That was the only living being in the room."

Luke pet the creature, sitting up, causing Lunora to fall down and wake up. "So this was the only one in there?" he asked concernedly. "We need to find Anya." he said, getting up.
Lunora woke when Luke moved. She looked to see the creature and she gave a curious look. "What is that?"
