"I'm fine," Lake muttered, jerking his sleeveless trench coat and readjusting it around his shoulders. "I'm up, aren't I?" He stomped past her, scowling, and shoved his hands into his pockets as he trudged down the hallway in the direction Kyou had come from. He didn't tell the others to come along again, but he didn't tell them to get lost, either - although, his body language somewhat suggested that. He was walking with a slight limp now and was clearly fuming in silence - though it seemed only partially because of Kyou. His mood only appeared to have degraded further by Kira's helping him, for some reason.

Kira sat quietly in place, watching Lake uneasily as he stormed off. She wasn't sure what to make of this guy, and now she'd seen another side that just added to unease. Then again, he hadn't come after her, so he had himself under control. At least slightly...

She glanced toward Riley, looking somewhat lost, but then slowly dragged herself back to her feet. That guy had headed back behind them, toward the dimmed lights, and she wasn't about to follow. Come to think of it, she should've warned him or something, but she figured he could handle himself.

Slowly, she headed in her only remaining option, which just happened to be the direction Lake had stalked off in.

After seeing what some of the others here were like, she decided she'd gotten pretty lucky with her own associates, and her enthusiasm for finding others had greatly diminished. That, and the fact that she'd been called a side show attraction. Sulking, she grabbed up her tail, wringing it anxiously between her hands as she moved after Lake in near silence.

"Tch. What're you looking so worried about?" came a harsh voice - Lake was eyeing her beadily from over his shoulder as she wrung her tail. "Let go...knock it off already! What are you, some kind of wimp? You really gonna take that loser seriously?! Tch...whatever..." He scowled, turning back around and trudging around a corner. He was headed back in the direction of the storage room - the 'practice' room, with the claw marks on the walls. Better to head back there than get lost in the maze.

Tch...idiots...I wish they were all still asleep! Every one of them!

"I-I said knock it off! It's just a tail! Who cares if it's there or not?! ENOUGH!" he whirled around, looking quite mad for a moment, and contented himself with slamming a fist into the wall.

"....OW!"

He swore, plopping down onto the ground in a sitting position and clutching his arm, which was now radiating waves of pain from the blow and bruises. "...If you wanna be a sideshow freak, FINE! Go fit the damn profile! Just leave me alone!"

Kira cringed, jolting as his sudden complaints rang out. Her eyes lifted from the floor, staring at him in surprise, but her hands only tightened around her tail. "I'm not, I..." she began, but trailed off as he simply turned and kept moving. She frowned, ears drooping against her head.

Once again, she glanced over her shoulder toward Riley, but then reluctantly resumed her tailing Lake. She kept her distance, but again, he caused a jerk of alarm as he turned to spew out more shouting. Her body stiffened and she took a quick step backwards, her eyes widening, then narrowing a second later. Drooping ears flattened back, her posture became more defensive, and she dropped her tail to leave her hands open. What if he decided to hit her next, instead of a wall?

"What is wrong with you?" she snapped back, irritated by his needless lashing. "If it bothers you so much, just pretend I'm not here! I'm not near you and I'm not talking... Why are you so upset?!" Hadn't he been putting all of his previous effort into hitting on her? Maybe he was the one who'd really let that giant's words get to him.

"Pretend?! Like pretending ever helped anybody!" He didn't get up from the floor, shoulders slumped as he sat there with his hair falling into his face. "If pretending worked, I'd have spent my whole life doing just that! I could pretend I wasn't stuck here, and that you would all just GO AWAY!" He gritted his teeth, fingers curling into fists. "I'd pretend I wasn't some kind of killing machine," he muttered, more quietly.

"...Tch! If you're so big on pretending, why don't you pretend you're going to last more than a day in this stupid place?!"

Kira shrank back, two steps this time, and the irritation upon her face shifted back to alarm. She looked torn as well, starting to sway in place, ready to retreat away, then rocking back to stay where she was. Shew knew she didn't know about this place. Riley didn't either. Lake was her only hope of not winding up somewhere, lost and starving.

What had he said about a killing machine?

Flattened ears resumed their pitiful drooping, and her arms slowly lowered again, dangling by her sides. She didn't know what to say. She needed him, but he was giving her hell for it.

So she stood there, stranded in the middle of the hallway, staring at him with a dull, almost crushed expression. "..I'll just pretend... that you don't mean what you're saying," she murmured faintly, almost too soft to hear, as her gaze lowered back to the floor.

Maybe she should've taken her chances with the foul-mouthed giant and bloody hallway after all.

"I'm not going anywhere. I can't."

Lake's expression softened just slightly, and he sighed. "You can go anywhere you want, kiddo," he said heavily, pushing himself to his feet again. "Just can't guarantee it'll get you anywhere." He glanced over his shoulder at her. "You have no more chance of surviving by following me than you do going anywhere else." He paused, shaking his head. "Just now...I changed...weren't you scared?" His eyebrows creased. "You should have been."

Upon reaching the Practice room, he paused to gaze around the cold, empty walls, the seeping darkness that stretched into the far reaches of the massive storage unit. Far, far above, much to high for even Kyou to ever reach, filthy old air vents, pipes, panels whirred and rattled, half of them broken...around the dusty floor, upturned crates lay uselessly, some of them scorched and scuffed up like the walls.

He had always felt so alone when coming in here. But perhaps that was only because he forgot how much he hated being in the company of others...

Kira shook her head, but stood her ground. She couldn't go anywhere else. "If the chances are the same, I'd rather spend my time with someone than alone."

Even if you just keep yelling at me...

She couldn't imaging anyone truly wanting to brave this place in solitude. They'd end up going crazy.

"..why?" she asked quietly, still remaining in place. "You didn't try to attack me, so..." She didn't see a reason to be scared. Well, maybe she had been a little, especially at first. She'd never seen anyone else sprout claws before, and his dwarfed hers in size. But he'd quickly proven he wasn't a threat to her, and had even been helpful, so for now she'd remain unafraid. At least on the surface.

She waited a couple seconds before yet again trailing after him, keeping the gap between them larger than before. She didn't want to get too close, or cross some invisible line and trigger another outburst. So when the reached the familiar storage room, she hung back, lingering and waiting for him to enter first so she could decide if she'd be allowed to do the same. Maybe if she kept tucked in a far corner, he wouldn't mind. Otherwise she'd confine herself to the hallway, and hope nothing stumbled upon her... She really hoped she could go inside.

"Hmn...yeah, well...you got lucky," he muttered, slipping his hands into his pockets again.

I managed to keep a level head...that time.

He slumped against one of the metal walls and slid down, closing his eyes as the coolness pressed against his bare shoulderblades through his clothes.

"Hey, kid." He opened one eye as he rested his head back, peeking at her. "You're uh...you're pretty strong. For a girl." He scoffed, closing the eye again.

"...You ever actually turn into a cat? Or are those claws and ears just for show?" He gave a dull chuckle, a half-hearted hint of his old attitude coming back. "I heard cats like to lick people...wanna test that theory?"

Kira waited, hovering around the doorway as she watched Lake settle down, then let a couple more seconds tick past before she slowly began to creep into the room. She settled herself along the same wall, but again left a nice sized gap between them. When he first spoke toward her, she tensed, awaiting another barrage of insults and demands for solitude, but was surprised instead by something of a compliment. "Ah... thanks."

She glanced down at her hands, turning them over before herself and examining her claws. She wished she could just make them disappear whenever she was finished.

As Lake questioned her further, her head lifted, eyes catching the light from the hallway and reflecting it back, much in the way a real cat's would. "They're.. not just for show," she murmured, but left it at that. Then, the familiar frown returned with the reappearance of his perverted side. "...no thanks," she grumbled, biting back a threat.

It was hard to decide if she preferred perversion or his defensive harsh words.

xxxxȺll alone. She was really...all alone. Anna-Marie had been wandering these stupid halls...was she even going through multiple halls?! Or was she just waltzing around through some never ending square of utter boredom?! True, she hadn't seen the room she was in since entering...but that didn't mean she hadn't passed it in her love-sick delusional fantasy (or, for you musical lovers, her 'boozy delusional fog'). The never ending silence was beginning to creep her out, causing shivers to run through her spinal cord. More than once the female stopped, knitting her hands together nervously and looking back down the way she had originally came from (or assumed, for she now deemed herself lost). "Where exactly am I, anyways? she finally pondered to herself, looking nervously ahead before continuing her trek into god knows where.
"I'm surprised I have yet to see anyone here. I don't know how big this place is, or what's going on in here, but it can't be utterly deserted, right? What's the point of putting a girl like me in a place like this?

With a long aggravated groan, Anna-Marie continued to move forward, humming lightly to herself before belting out "Can anybody find me...somebody to LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE?" What? At the moment, she felt as if she were singing in the shower, so it was only right she got to belt things out. She was in a place that echoed splendidly, she was all alone (unfortunately...), and...who knew? Maybe it was raining. Not inside, of course, but outside. Outside...OUTSIDE! The doors around this place have just got to lead to the outside! Sure, many of them probably led to rooms (like the one she had), or even a bathroom (which caused her to contemplate this a bit longer than necessary...)! Alright! With her mind set, the blond continued to move forward, once more with purpose. This time, she would open (or attempt to open) all the doors she came across. Ready to find her way out, she decided that any door she came across, she would leave open so that she knew which ones to go to. Or, better yet, create a hole in the wall with her shoe (her poor shoes...) so she knew whether or not she had been in there!

The perfect plan!

Just the thought of her brilliance caused her hand to move fluidly to a few strands of her hair that rested against her shoulder and tossed them out, causing them to land gently on her back. Going over to the first door she saw, her perfectly manicured hand reached out to the handle and twisted gently, pulling it open in front of her.

And then she closed it.

...

Then she opened it.

And then closed it again, before finally opening it and keeping it open.

Staring at it with blank shock, the female blinked a few times before closing her eyes and screaming as if some demented mass murderer had popped out of no where with a butcher knife in hand and a bloody mouth with a chunk of human remains wedged in their teeth. Her hand moved like lightning closing the door with a large slam before backing up to the wall across from the room and sliding down into a sitting position, hand over her mouth in an attempt to keep any unpleasant (and unlady like) vomit from traveling out via her lips.

What she had discovered, was the ever so accommodating (and lethal, probably) bathroom.

Lake gave a grim sort of chuckle and let his gaze drift back across the massive chamber, rubbing absently at his battered arms.

"...You don't remember anything how you got here, do you?" he asked, though it was barely a question, more of a statement. One without much hope behind it. That seemed to be the case with everyone. It was one thing to be hazy on the details, but no one seemed to remember a single detail that might give some sort of clue, either to their whereabouts, the reasoning behind those whereabouts, or how they might escape their current predicament. Some of them seemed mad enough, strong enough, dangerous enough that no one could possibly have forced them there.

Could they?

At first, I thought it was just me. I thought I...I'd hurt someone again. That somone had finally, caught up with me and condemned me for my sins. His eyes closed again. At first, I thought...I thought that maybe...it was...him.

"...You got anything worth escaping for?" he added softly, his voice low and a little gruff. "'Cause you know...a person could get used to this place."

At least, that's what he had been trying to convince himself. Wondering if, perhaps, this was the best place for him after all.

He was surprised to find himself talking so much...talking without trying to get in the poor girl's pants, that is. He didn't normally talk much at all, unless he was trying to do just that...or unless he was forced into some sort of verbal communication.

But...perhaps the massive jail cell they were trapped in had his mind going stale. Perhaps he was going permenantly crazy. Perhaps he had been along too long within the metal walls before others had started to come to.

'Cept...it's not like I'm lonely. Or something. I've never been lonely. I don't need anybody. I just...

Maybe I'm just losing my mind completely...

Kira shook her head, eyes back upon the floor as she sat against the wall. She drew her knees to her chest and hugged them close, resting her chin lightly upon them. She felt kind of tired now, and the desire to keep wandering around this place was fading. She didn't want to have anymore stressful encounters with powerful crazies. She doubted she could avoid it for long in here, but maybe at least one peaceful night could be obtained. ...was it even nighttime?

"I can't get used to this place," she replied shortly, staring at Lake as if the very notion was insane. "What part can you get used to? The lack of food? The dirtiness? The crazy people running around?"

A faint scowl crossed her features, and she shifted a bit in place. "I have my family. I can't even.. imagine what's going through my dad's.. head..."

Her voice trailed off, her expression shifting. She hadn't thought about that yet. She'd just been trying to adjust, focusing on the people around her to distract from anything too majorly serious. But now that she thought about it... What was her dad doing right now, unable to find her and knowing the type of trouble she tended to find?

She fell silent, lowering her head further, hiding most of her face against her knees as she held them more tightly to herself.

Ah, crap.

Lake eyed her warily as he head dropped, expression suspicous. "...You're not going to cry, are you?" he grumbled, slightly panicked. He hadn't any idea what to do with crying women. In fact, he was relatively sure he would take another round with the angry giant man before he dealt with a crying woman.

"Look uhh...I'm sure your dad doesn't even miss you that much," he grunted, in dismal attempt at a very rare compliment. "Uh...um..." He rubbed the back of his head again. "H-hey, it's not all that different from...from out there, you know?" In his experience, anyway. Dirtiness, lack of food...even crazy people, for he had run into his fair share of raving hobos and angry gang members on the street...it was all commonplace.

Really, he supposed it was the walls he didn't like. The cold, blank walls. The feeling of being trapped. It brought back too many memories...

...Not to mention that someone had dropped a ceiling on him.

Kira had shaken her head at first, giving the sign that she was, in fact, not going to cry. But it was Lake's next comment that made her visibly tense, her clawed fingers pressing against her legs as she clutched them, curling up in her lonesome spot against the corner. Didn't even miss her..? Was he trying to make her feel better, or a million times worse?

"I-it's completely different!" she cried, her head lifting sharply. Her expression looked rattled, but angry, and at the same time her eyes were suddenly brimmed with tears. "It's different and I want to go home! He does miss me!" she added, almost anxiously.

What if he didn't? What if he was glad he wouldn't have to worry about his crazy, rampaging daughter anymore? "...n-nn.." She made an odd noise, a suppressed whimper, and her head instantly buried back against her knees.
