Mo J - BPRD

PostPosted: Mon Aug 18, 2008 12:46 pm

"Lucy, I'm hoooommmee!" he proclaimed as as he walked into his living quarters. Mo was alone in his room, and as usual was amusing no one but himself. He had been known to crack a joke or two from time to time, mostly at the expense of others, but when it came to work, he was strictly business.

His room looked more like a junkyard than anything else, with spare parts for everything from cars to weapons lying about in an order no one would understand but himself. He saw the file sitting on his desk under an old carburetor, and flipped through the pages, looking for anything that may stand out.

"Hmmm, this is a new one by me," he said out loud. "People disappearing is not the norm with these things. I guess we'll learn more on site. I'll brief Laura and the kid in the AM. Time for some shut eye."

Laura discovered that evening that moving a full tank of liquid nitrogen was not an easy task. She got the cylinder down from the shelf and onto the ground, but she wasn't too interested in rolling it all the way out to the car hangar in the morning.
Naturally, she got a push cart.
Liquid nitrogen was dangerous if you didn't know too much about it. Laura had learned the ins and outs of the ridiculously cold substance when she'd been eight and needed a wart removed at the doctor's office. Well, technically it hadn't been a wart, it had been a growth of blood vessels on the outside of her skin.
The plan for tomorrow would be to freeze the squonks so they couldn't liquefy, then transfer them into cages and talk them down so they would leave people alone.
It could work, and she felt a pleasant smugness from her plan. The only problem would be aiming the nitrogen. Laura duct taped a hose over the nozzle on the cylinder so that whoever opened the valve would be able to direct the flow.
Put a sticky note saying "Ne touche pas" on the cart and called it a night. People left your stuff alone if you left a note in another language. They always assumed it was super super important. Even if the message was French.

After a while Izzy got up and popped open another Dew. He walked down the hallway as he did before.

In her dormitory-esque room, Laura pulled her computer onto her lap and checked e-mails. Cryptology this, cryptology that. An archaeological dig in Giza interested her for a bit, but the information was vague and her attention was lost in a few minutes.
Laura closed her computer. It was still only around six-o-clock. She turned on the television, doodled, and finally got back to her favorite book series; The Gunslinger by Stephen King. That series was also the reason she used a .45 revolver instead of one of those nice, new 9mm's that other agents used.
She fell asleep around seven.

Izzy continued to roam the halls looking for a friendly face to talk to.

Mo woke up abruptly at his desk. He had fallen asleep going over paperwork and now some of that work was sticking to the side of his face, held on by the same drool that was also pooled on the desktop. "Unnhh... I hate when that happens."

Lighting his breakfast cigarette, he looked around and gathered the paperwork and equipment he would need for the trip. Throwing on his signature white t-shirt; he had a whole drawer full of them, Mo J quickly left his room and headed towards the hangar.

With his standard issue BPRD tactical vest slung over his shoulder, he slowly made his way down the hallway towards the hangar for his rendezvous with Laura and Iggy. Or was it Izzy? Mornings were never Mo's best friend.....

Zigfreid woke up. Lying in his bed still wearing yesterday's outfit he rolled over "Ugh...I hate it when my mouth gets dry like this" his voice seemed very horse and he grabbed a glass of water from his bathroom. He knew he had a mission today and he was very excited to battle again if possible. He didn't know much about Squonks or what all they could do but he didn't often care about the negetive side of things..he was mostly positive. "I wonder if Laura is up" grabbing his essentials, he made his way out the door and down the hall.

Mo was the first to reach the hangar. He made his way to his truck and started loading his equipment in the back. Taking a glance at his watch, he expected his fellow agents to walk in at any time.

The details in this case were definitely strange. Most things they deal with at the Bureau were strange, but missing people and squonks didn't belong in the same sentence, he knew that much. Hopefully things would clear up once they got on site.

He lit another cigarette with the butt of the one hanging from his lip and leaned against the front quarter panel of the pickup. Various technicians began trickling in to tackle their daily tasks, many of them stopping by for a quick 'hello'. The hangar was often like a second home to Mo, and many of them had made friends with him. They talked about everything from cars to sports, and sometimes the techs and mechanics felt like the only people he could relate to there. Regardless of his ability, Mo still felt like a 'normal' person. Sure he had gotten along well with folks like Roger, Abe, and Johann, and was beginning to consider them all friends, but their somewhat unusual appearances were still something he was getting used to, as he was accustomed to fighting or subduing things that didn't look 'normal'.

Making his way into the hanger, Zigfreid wondered where Laura was. He knew by the time he got there Mo-j would've already been prepared for the main field mission. Sketchbook at hand it felt exciting and butterflies gathered in his stomach.

(Sorry I was gone so long. My grandmother hasn't been in the best of health of late.)

Laura was pushing the trolley with one leg and riding it like a scooter with the other. How have I never done this before? She wondered to herself.
The trolley cart rolled into the hangar, making more noise than a cat who has just had his tail stepped on. She stopped just in time to keep from smashing into the truck, and at once started to load the liquid nitrogen tanks into it. As before, they were heavy, but what better way was there to start the morning than with back-breaking manual labor?
"So how are you guys this morning?" She asked jovially.

(I'm sorry to hear that. Hope she gets better)

Izzy smiled as she rode in and ran to them in a 'omg I finally found you!' kinda way. "Hey guys!!"

(Thanks.)
"Good to see you made it through the night. We had this bedbug fiasco a couple of years ago..." Laura trailed off intentionally. Of course her story was complete BS, but she did like spinning yarns to watch the look of horror on people's faces.
When the last of the tanks and cages were loaded into the truck, Laura rolled her shoulders and neck, producing a horrible snapping, clicking sound. She put a hand over her coat to make sure she hadn't forgotten her gun. It wasn't like she really needed to check- she could tell by the weight of her jacket that the revolver was there. In her messenger bag she had a respirator, work gloves, and a padded box of bullets for her gun. There was also a digital camera. She didn't have a Squonk photo for her photo collection yet.
"Everyone ready to go?" The agent asked.

"Yeah!" Zigfreid smiled and hopped in.

(My condolences. I'm dealing with a sick relative at the moment myself.)

"Well I'm glad to see you two are ready to go." Mo tossed Laura the report he was holding. "Here you go sunshine." he said, drawing out and accentuating his southern drawl that he had worked to try to hide over the years. "We've got missing people.....looks like we need to find them and who took them. The only unusual reports we have are the presence of these squonks. I reckon they aint the ones doin' the takin'. Maybe a distraction of some sort?"

Mo jumped into the drivers seat and pulled out a new cigarette from the pack sitting on the dash. "What do you say chief?" his question directed at Izzy, while his focus was soley on the match that was lighting his smoke. "Ready to kick a little a**, take a few names? Hell, this should be fun!"
