Terryn shifted as far away as she possibly could from him, hanging over the edge of her chair. Right now, she wanted desperately not to feel the way she did, to try and realize that she simply found him to be good conversation and a good lay.

Marcus stood up, exhaling softly, and he wiped his wet face with his wet sleeve, which did absolutely nothing. He turned back to Terryn abruptly, and said, "You should change. You'll catch your death." It was funny, in a very unfunny way, that he should be so businesslike when he felt so shaken.

Catch my death? Now that is a novel idea. Terryn sighed, not really wanting to move but wanting more not to be around the object of her unwanted affections. She stood up and brushed past him, crossing her arms over her chest as she made her way to the bedroom.

There is no single word in the English language to express exactly what Marcus felt at that moment. 'Afraid' seems the closest, just before 'flabbergasted' and 'helpless'. Marcus wasn't good at facing things head on. He went to go find the host, and demand that some room be made for Terryn, and Terryn alone.

After changing, Terryn sat down at the desk in their bedroom and began to write a letter to her father, stating that she was returning home. She read it over and over again, unable to seal it and send it off. Instead she reviewed it a few more times, not absorbing a single word of it.

After listening to the host's feeble apologies a few times, Marcus rudely bid him good day. So he would have to deal with Terryn. Fine. Fine. It wasn't a problem. Just an inconvenience. He entered the bedroom, fully intending to change and come back out without a word, but he lost heart when he saw how depressed Terryn's slouched figure looked. He touched her tentatively on the shoulder. "...I'm sorry." Naturally, he meant that he felt sorry for Terryn, having to deal with these alien emotions.

Terryn jumped, accidentally ripping the letter in half. "What?" She crumpled up the paper and put it aside, putting on a fake smile. For the past few minutes, she had been trying to think of how to fix everything, and she had one last desperate attempt. "I win." She grinned slyly, taking his hand as though nothing had happened.

Marcus raised his eyebrows. "Of course you do," he answered, not quite understanding what or how she had won, but quite glad that she was speaking again, all the same.

Terryn stood up and leaned over to kiss him, cursing herself inwardly for her display earlier. "Remember in the coach? I said that I was going to get to you. And I did." She gave him a triumphant smile, hoping that he believed her.

Marcus broke into a smile. "You really did," he echoed. He didn't believe her for even a second, but was delighted that she had gotten control of herself so quickly. Other girls would sob the day away when informed them blandly that he did not, or could not, or both, love her. Terryn was different. He'd known it all the time. "You did make an a** out of me," he told her, going along with it.

Terryn nodded resolutely. "That I did. You should have seen the look on your face. You had a pure white countenance, I feared that you were losing blood." Of course, at that moment she just wanted to lose all her blood and die for being such a blatant fool, but she didn't have the rapier on her.

Marcus grinned, thrilled at how quickly she had composed herself. He leaned over towards Terryn to kiss her, and heaved a theatrical sigh. "And to think I came in here to inform you that I do love you," he said (less sarcastically than he had attempted for), shaking his head and looking solemnly at the ground.

"You-you did?" Terryn raised an eyebrow, not wanting to give off a sense of hopefullness in her voice, for fear that she may blow her cover. "So you have come to the dark side?"
PostPosted: Wed Jan 24, 2007 9:32 pm

Marcus, not noticing Terryn's slight change in tone, grinned and nodded. "I have." He gestured out the window, where it was dismal and grey and raining heavily. "Could there be better skies to welcome me?"

Terryn shook her head. "Of course not. What could be better than a thunderstorm?" She was serious too. She loved storms, as was apparent in the wide eyed, entranced sort of gaze she had as she stared out the window.
