We can try that, but I really want to make the next issue a really really good one. I know they should all be really good, but I want this one to actually get there.

I don't have any banner-needs as of now, not unless we go through with the ad section. In that case, we'd need a name for it. I'm not really a name expert. Hmm... Spreading the Word? Or... Telephone (alluding to the game)? See what you can come up with. I think an ad section would be good.

Or, we could have a Bulliten and combine the Watch with the Ads. I kind of like the Neighborhood Watch though... but Bulliten would be more practical. We don't want too many banners floating around.

Actually, what if we kept the Neighborhood Watch and just divided it into two sections, one for ads and the other for reports. I'm going in circles.

Okay, no new banners so far. I'll tell you if I find something.

I think I'm going to work on the next draft. I need the reassurance. Bad publicity is stressful. And also, one other thing to bring up.

Just so you know, someone accused me of stealing the Gaian Press. Anyone know anything? I believe they're mistaken (unless Alice hasn't told us something), otherwise it's a coincidence. Clandestine messages over!

Who accused you of stealing the 'zine? Just curious, of course. If I know who, I may be able to figure out if there has actually been a Press before.

Oh, and next time you look at the Issue thread, check out LordSoma's suggestion. To summarize, he was saying that the name of the Poetry and Prose section is slightly misleading, seeing as we do not actually have any prose. He suggested that we divide the pieces into Poems, Fiction, and Nonfiction(if we use a non-fiction piece).

Personally speaking, I like having the Watch and Ads in two seperate sections. But I suppose that would depend on the number of "blurbs" that we have for each.

I'd never seen the word "prose" until I came to this forum, so explain to me. Internet dictionary definition of "prose" is

-noun: ordinary writing as distinguished from verse

and

Writing distinguished from poetry by its greater variety of rhythm and its closer resemblance to the patterns of everyday speech.

So if it's not in verse and it's a piece of writing, would it be prose? Wouldn't Fiction and Nonfiction both be considered prose?

...why are we discussing this? I'm suddenly reminded of Congress arguing over which seasonal greeting is more politically correct.

If "Pro" is the opposite of "Con", is "Progress" the opposite of "Congress"?

Anyway.

I don't think we'd have enough ads and reports to call for seperate banners each, so we'll combine them.

And I did some looking into whether or not there was another Press (not really extensive searching; went through some posts and checked dates). Didn't find anything, but you can look if you want. > Haruko Maru

I agree that we should do something special for the anniversary, maybe try and re-energize the staff in general. I've been kicking a few ideas around about things we can add, although I'm definately in need of some brain storming.

How about some form of Literary Personals? As in, definately not for cybering, but for people looking for friends, people in their area, ets. Something like "cute, nerdy writer seeks attractive poet, age 18-23, living in the North West..." That type of stuff. We could have a mule or something who people could email with their message, and code name, and then we could act as the inbetween for anyone interested in their add.

I will have some sort of column of my own up for the anniversary issue, which is my main focus this year. I've also considered hunting down some more reviews, perhaps for spefic areas of interest, like gaming or comics. I can cover this stuff, but it would at least be nice to have some other general reviews, so readers can get different points of view.

Damn, I totally had more ideas, which I'm sure will return to me as soon as I post them... Well then, more later, I have to get to class!

So if it's not in verse and it's a piece of writing, would it be prose? Wouldn't Fiction and Nonfiction both be considered prose?

Precisely. LordSoma was wondering why we had seperate sections for prose and Fiction, seeing as Fiction can fall underneath the category of prose.

If you want to try this, you'd probably need permission from the mods/admins. Probably just the mods, since a lot worse goes on in the CB and the admins don't seem to care.
I'm assuming we would possess final and complete decision of what Personals would be allowed. Yes, most of those who frequent the WF have enough maturity that this would work, but if, by chance, there is someone a bit more immature...
Also, are you sure this doesn't compromise any part of the ToS, seeing as it will (probably) end up revealing information about yourself, such as area and age.
Also, how will you be able to make sure that no body lies? Or will you just set up a disclaimer?

Edit: The ToS says that as a User, you are not allowed collect or store personal data from other users.
It goes on to say that: "other information, such as a user's age or geological location, may be provided by the user to enhance the user's ability to communicate between other users and, all of which, are optional."

Here is a list of the people we have to send publication notices to. I can do it some time tomorrow if no else does. And yes, it is their username. I'm pretty sure it is, anyway. If not, tell me and I can find it, or you can look through the submission thread and find them.

Matthew vonDarvi
DayhawK68
Scary_Fairy
vengeful_jubilation
wasted_dawn

Prairie_Fire exclaim This one, I have to send 500g to from the mule account, or if someone is bored and want to do it themselves, I can pay them back. Whatever.

Also, since I've gotten ahead on the next draft, I'm putting a list of the people getting published next issue; however, we won't send them the notices until after the issue has been published, since we're still going to get more submissions (because we're greedy like that). Kapeesh? Good.

Laverne Terres
Slightfoxing
asta_orra
Bookie
Sergeant Sargent
teh magical neice

Note to self: Clean up first post; find a use for it. Also, always make a list of the published users as you make the draft, not after. Much easier that way.

Oh yes, and Lilly, look at the draft to make sure I did the title Poetry and Prose thing right. I got rid of Fiction entirely. I'm pretty sure I did it right, but just to make sure.

And can someone set up a short little draft of the ad section here in HQ? I haven't been too involved in this part and so far as I know, we only have the Beta ad and then Vexations. Just type the text and such. Should that also be in quotes for the links? Who will it be quoted to? The ad owner or one of the staffies? I'd be inclined to think the ad owner, unless they requested otherwise. Anyway, get the text and I'll figure out how to neatly divide them under the Neighborhood Watch.

Jaho: I still want you to look at the political piece by mitoguard in the Mounds, pg 4.

Yeah, that would be a problem...I suppose we can scratch that idea, then. sweatdrop Maybe as part of the ads section we could have people write blurbs such as "so-and-so needs to hire a beta-writer for her/his blah fanfic. Looking for people with knowledge of the blank fandom" or some such like that.

I still like the idea of having a Hiring Thread where we can state the current positions we're seeking, and where people can post their applications. It doesn't have to be a monthly thread, since the submissions thread is basically that.

Lets see, other ideas...I already mentioned these, I think, but just for myself I'll say them again.

We could have a fairytale rewrite contest of some kind, or fairytale inspired contest...as in, people poetry and prose which are either adaptations of fairytales or inspired by them. I think it would be a fun project.

There was also a similar idea about taking cliched plots and writing them well, although it sounds as if this has been done already in the WF...

The Poetry and Prose thing looks fine, Serieve.

For ads, you'd probably have to quote the text, at least until the link-glitch is fixed. The ad owner should probably be the one quoted to, since it is their ad.

Rushifa, the Personals may work; you'd just have to go about it rather carefully. But the beta-witer thing sounds good, and maybe it'll even put and end to the looking someone to beta my story/poem/whatever threads.

A hiring thread is probably a good idea, especially now that it seems some people are interested in becoming staffies.

Also, just a note: A observant reader noticed that naturally in Gypsy_Hart's section is spelled wrong.

May I start up a submission thread for February?

Please do. 3nodding

Has anyone sent the notices? Because... I haven't. I'll do so now, since I said I would earlier, but didn't. They'll just have to suffer two notices.

I'll use the same format for the first post as was used in the last submissions thread.
I'll probably add something about the anniversary coming up.
Also, what's the closing date for submissions this month?

By the way, why is there a 'poetry and prose' section, and then a fiction section?

That doesn't make any sense. gonk

I believe that has been discussed and resolved.

So I brought up some things in the Submissions Thread that need discussing.

-Advertisements
-Second Runner Up? (And prize bump)

...mainly the advertisements. I mentioned to them a fee and what it'd be used for. How much? What are we advertising? How exactly will the fees work (as in how long we advertise them and etc.)?

neutral This is like the minishop all over again. Except that the minishop is pretty much stalemate at the moment.

Well, not including the message a while ago from 'Thorne to Jaho, I think there's someone who posted that they'd be up for an ad.
