Note: Because Serieve is a ditz, she wrote over Rushifa's post on accident. And now she is refering to herself in the third person.Rushifa On another note, I don't really understand what you mean by Optional Columns... I shall go look through back issues, and see if I can figure it out for myself, but if anyone wants to clue me in on this, I'd be very greatful. It's hard being new sweatdrop Don't feel bad, I can see how that would be difficult to figure out. ^^ The optional sections are the ones we don't use everytime, the ones we can circulate. Things like Critic's Corner, Writer's Aide, Staff Spotlight, etc. Each of them details something different. I don't know how familiar you are with any of these sections, but we've used them before and we could probably use more ideas on new ones. Critic's Corner is simple. Find a critic, have them critique on of our published pieces, and post it in the issue. It's not used a lot becaues critiquing isn't exactly easy to do. Writer's Aide is a more common one, since we already have several pieces written by Gypsy Hart, but I've been told that they aren't really very enriching. Staff Spotlight gives insight on the staff. Once it was a survey, another time it was our pictures with a blurb on our current writing projects. Those were pretty fun. There's also an Outside the Box (something like that, I forget) that we use for bigger writing projects. First one was a Seven Sins project, and our last one was a Political Writing Project. One staffie directed each. I did the Seven Sins, Jaho did the Political Writing Project. (Pst! I think it's Nemea's turn... if she wants to. Just a suggestion. Lilly could do one too, once she gets back into the swing of things. Or we could try our first collaborative project. Lots of ideas just waiting to happen here.) Anyway, that's what the optional sections are. ^^ I wanted some input on which one to use this go around, seeing as we've been using the Writer's Aide one so much lately.

As far as BOI goes, should I go remind some people? *cough*lasso in those staffies*cough*
It's not very official, but I'd still like if we asked, or even told, the people beforehand. The threads I know of include Hawthorne's, Jaho's, Jabberwocky's, and quite a few others I can't bring to mind. Think they'll want free advertising?
I tried to revise Death of Orion; it's posted in the Oasis. Sorry I wasn't able to get it all revised, but I think I got most of it. I didn't understand the implication for a few sentences, so I left them as it is.
You've not always had an afterthought, I think.
Lemme see if I can go summarize the advertising thing with Hawthorne.
And when I get back from school, should I inform the published writers if someone else hasn't already?

Quote: Hails Jaho, Is the Gaian PRESS taking advertisements (I'm talking about just the text and link kind.) I am asking this because I see a use in hedging Vexations in -- somewhere -- without actually submitting pieces of it. Plus, I would be quite happy to contribute to the mounds of gold I'm sure are piling up for the Best in Issue and eventual contests. As you can see, Hawthorne wishes to advertise Mill Avenue Vexations. Nemea said that we're open for ads, and this would technically be our first ad. The people who read Vexations(Jile and Jaho) say that it is fitting for a literary magazine. Nothing was really decided, but I'd say that more people wanted to advertise it than not. Also, I found this in the Afterthought of one of the first issues. Quote: Looking for a place to advertise the thread showcasing all your written work? Or maybe you just want to announce a contest of sorts? Yet are you afraid that your post will be pushed into the forgotten pages within minutes? Have no fear, the Press is here! Advertise with us and ensure more exposure for your thread! We'll provide a link to your thread in our next issue, and it'll be 30g per line to post in The Watch, and 10g per line to post in The Afterthought. All profits will go to thepress mule and be used as prize money for future Press endeavors! So support a good cause and let your voice be heard at the same time! How spiffy is that? PM alicemae if you're interested.

All right, just got back from school. I'm going to go remind the more-active staffies(Jaho, Nemea, Jile, and Xeheglar?) to vote, and then maybe contact the published writers. Just tell me if someone has done any of the above already.
Edit: I PMed the staffies but have not had the chance to contact the writers. I have to get off now and will be back sometime between seven and eight o' clock, probably around 7:30. 7:30, that is, for whatever time zone I'm in.

I can write up a little blurb about the Righteous Articles of Literacy, although I haven't recieved word back from the creators of it. It seems to me we can talk about it without their permission, but I don't really know how we usually do that. I can at least write it up, though, and then we can choose to use it or not.

As for the Watch, we just have a blurb that explains the thread; something catchy and enticing, followed by a link to it. If we have time, we post in the thread that a link was included in the Press.

The edited Death of Orion is posted in the Oasis, Rushifa's blurb about the Articles is in the Watch thread, along with a slightly edited blurb. I believe they're in the same post for convienence. The Voting for Best of Issue has begun, and I think that Breakfast, by Prarie_Fire is winning. As far as I know of, the published writers have not yet been contacted.
And now I must go off to study for all my tests tomorrow.

Serieve idea For safe keeping: A flashback section. Note: We need another graphics guru. Or you could try talking to Dev again, as she's on somewhat often. Also, if you're still needing stuff for the Watch, I just added a couple little blurbs in the Watch thread.

So, now we're approaching the 1-year anniversary of the 'zine. Amazing, neh? Anyway, I'm just wondering what you guys want to do for this rather special issue. Also, what do you need a graphics guru for, Serieve? Depending on what it is, I might be able to help.

New ideas = New Banners
That was really the main thing.
So for this next ultra super special issue, I think we should do something a little more up to par with our original dream of an ultra shiny Gaian Press. I still think the pieces in our first issue were some of the best we've ever used. We've digressed a bit, especially with alicemae gone.
Speaking of older issues, the Archive is really stuffy. As in it's a pain to load. So... I think some rearranging is in order. We'll have some empty posts, but that's okay. I'll figure it out later. I'll probably do it later too.
If anyone feels inspired, we could do a project...
New optional section ideas? I had the flashback section idea, where we go back and grab a few really good pieces and post them again.
Maybe something to involve the readers more? We could do alicemae's word hunt again, but I was thinking more of a section for reader activites. Writing challenges or promts, exercise, something.
We could have like... an associates section just for advertising and such, like the beta thing we've got just above our Watch Reports. We can recommend good places to go. We ask a fine and have to make sure that they're worth our readers' time before we accept. A one time fine or once each interval?
And there's still the minishop idea, which hasn't progressed at all. I'm going to try sending the issue to my account or mule or something to see how it turns out. If it doesn't go well, we can find some other source of income.
Anymore ideas?

Well, awhile back, I think someone suggested including a few pieces by staffies, seeing as it is, afterall, an anniversary issue.
Mind going a bit more into detail, as far as new banners go?
The Archive actually loads rather quickly on my computer, or at least, no slower than anything else. However, if you wish to rearrange, be my guest.
A project? Lemme think about that for a little while.
A section for advertising would probably be a good idea, especially now that we've actually gotten a request for an ad.
As for the minishop idea, messages are acting up at the moment, so you may want to hold that thought.
Also, you said something about involving the readers? Well, for some strange reason, the first thing that popped into my head was the Neopets Captioning Contest. Yeah, strange, I know. Anyways, I was thinking that something like that* may be interesting and somewhat fun. If there are any especially funny/good captions, maybe the person could be rewarded? *Or, since this is a writing 'zine, you could give them a prompt or a situation, basically, the setting, instead of a picture.
But, yeah, that's just my opinion.
