Vin: What version of Windows are you using?
Though I'm not sure how much that question is going to help since I've pretty much had to ghetto rig every single step of trying to get this stupid game to work.

I just do speed runs. Hence the fastest ship, on fast speed, and just shooting food as I need it.

I'm using Vista, so yeah, you know my troubles already. I know the "steps" to take. I'm just not dedicated enough to do them. If Square is going to make a client work, it should work straight forward.

Well, uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials seems to have done the trick. It doesn't seem like it's an actual virus, just...
... man, Square knows how to ruin everything it touches. And yeah, Vin. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. If you're still interested the best advice I can give is, if you already have it installed and the folders have already been created, just manually download the files via torrent and put them where they need to go. It's what I did, at least.

Okay, logged in, five races to choose from, it seems. Black Guy, Gay Elf (or at the very least bisexual), WoW Gnome, Catgirl, and Guts.

All right, I've got an idea. Time to see where this goes.
Apparently tabbing out of the game causes it to freak the hell out and immediately crash, so I'm gonna have to start the character creation process over again.

Well.
I made whatever the catgirl race is, made her a hand-to-hand fighter, took down some giant monster in the opening sequence, and them promptly gave up because I had no idea who to talk to, where to go, or what to do next.
