Because they're usually shitty. And Japanese is a language that just cant be translated and retain the same meaning or emotion with different voice actors.
That being said, Ive been watching Gurren Lagann on Netflix the past few days and enjoying it. But be careful if you watch it on there, it's out of order. Episode 7 is inexplicably missing. The episode labeled as #7 is actually #8, the sad episode.

Something about Kamina's English voice just makes me want to punch him in the face.
I'm usually not picky about voices, just... something about his I didn't like in the least.

There's been a couple of decent dubs, but for the most part, they're horrible. And usually very monotone. Like they're reading.

A friend of mine used to do voice overs for anime movies in Japan.
They took him for the part because he could speak English, not because he could act or anything.
But he did write them an epic profile of the character that he wanted to play for the movie, and it started in a vampire thread in gaia.
