Normally, no, but your Jar said so.
"Special Summon all Level 4 or lower Monster Cards among them on the field in face-up Attack Position or face-down Defense Position. "

Likewise. at first I was going to put them in attack mode, then I noticed that and realized that defense was better at the moment. Posted.
