Marcus opened one eye. "I do. Every day, for the next six months, excepting Sundays. You can tell the dead man to get you more books for the library. I have no doubt that you'll finish them all before our stay here is half over."

Terryn let her face linger near his after she kissed him, smiling softly. "I suppose. Though I am fond of quite a few things, but it does not mean I will banish myself to Russia for half a year."

Marcus tried to look smug, but the combination of his facial features and his tiredness appeared comical. "You must be unnaturally fond of me, then. That's really the only explanation."

"I suppose so." Terryn chuckled and kissed him lightly in the neck. "I must have fallen madly in love with you somehow."

Marcus swallowed, but he smiled slightly. "Silly girl," he answered, once he was able to speak again. The truth was, he had been thinking about that. He felt different about Terryn than any other girl, and it seemed to fit the definition of love, but that would go against his principles.

"Oh, but Marcus, you know I am naught but a flirtatious, tittering little courtier." Terryn placed her hand to her forehead dramatically and sighed. "I can not help but be swayed." The fact of the matter was that she currently had a strange twinge in her stomach that had started from the moment she had said that "L" word.

Marcus rolled his eyes. "I sincerely hope you're not making fun of me. There are plenty of nice Russian women here, you know," he told her, relieved. Sarcasm was a good refuge from seriousness.

"We are," answered Marcus, so quickly that it sounded a little harsh, and he returned her kiss apologetically. "We are," he repeated, more gently this time.

"Impossible. There's no such thing," replied Marcus, not wanting to get into this any further. He kissed her with a tone of finality, and rested his head on the pillow. "You're too sleepy to think straight."
