"A fighter. Good."
A nod though, and a glance at Piper.
"This fortress' defenses need to go on alert. Illusions need to be severed. translocation abilities as well. I want this thing, if it tries here, to be stripped of it's innate power. Double our patrols. We'll also need to alert Roarke and the twins. I'm sure Onyx would enjoy this kind of hunt, and Moonstone can help tend to any injured as well if needed."
A glance back to Manveru.
"These creatures kill for sport and food. and they attack everything. Note any unusually large population decreases around the area of your settlement. even if it's just carrion crawlers."
A slight nod.
"and I'll wager with the abundance of easy, large prey..being the orc intrusions and your realtively weak defenses, there's probably more than one of them."
A slight smirk.
"things are always exciting at home, aren't they Chev'?"

Manveru was somewhat confused by Malik's newest speach. Was he suposed to be insulted, or was Malik just making an observation. It didn't matter.
"Almost a year ago, the number of carrion crawlers exploded. It seems that a large number of creatures were killed. We could see lights over this fortress, so we assumed it was best not to ask." Caution.
"Since then, they have dispersed. Mostly to the west. Other than those, only the humanoid population has suffered. Some of use became ill and weary, even dillusional. More though, especially the forward scouts, were eaten by this fiend. We cannot say if there are more than one, but we do know they never attack more than one group of scouts. I do not know of anyone who actually survived a battle with the fiends."

A little not at being given his name. My my, this little half elf sure lived on the formal side of life, didn't he? Kind of endearing to old time she guessed. And look at that Malik had gotten into defensive mode, though she found that comforting. It was funny how being married and pregnant changed your thinking on a few things. Life experience did prove well for the younger more reckless ones now didn't it? Though she only shook her head lightly and perhaps gave her own smirk. "Always A'mael, that's the beauty of being home." Dangerous excitment or not. But back to listening...this wasn't her forte after all.

"Even better. then it's probably a single. if there were more than one, they'd probably spread out more and attack multiple groups, since a single one can take out a team."
then a look back to Manveru.
"I have a few allies that can be summoned to help. one is a creature unlike you have seen, so don't be alarmed if something frightening comes calling. the other is a drow of exceptional personal skill. does your council of druids actually have any real power, or is that just a title they are given?"
Yes Malik was in defensive mode. he had a pregnant wife to protect, and by Innoruuk he was going to.
"I have heat shieldings up around this fortress, that get hotter as you get closer. that might deter this thing some. other wounded might be brought here if need be. any dead you have that are less than a few weeks old, I want transported here for questioning."
Necromancy was good sometimes, wasn't it.
"Any exceptionally skilled men or women whom have died recently that you think had skills worthy of preserving..bring them too. You know, this may be a good time to use that new golem. the Warhammer remake. Might prove it's usefulness."

"What?" Was all Manveru could utter, completely cought off guard by that string of talk, was Malik going to befoul the souls of the fallen? At times like this, Manveru wished Corellon had not abandoned them.
He breathed for a moment, "Why doth you ask these things of me, I am but a commoner, I know nothing of the power of those that keep the Black Dragon at bey." A dragon that was actually killed not too long ago, but this scout knew nothing of that.

"I ask because right now you are the only source of information I have."
A look at his face.
"Necromancy, my dear Maneru, can revive the dead. have those that fell rise to fight again. But it also can be used to question them. thier spirits can tell us if they were attacked like you, or by other things, or even if it was more than one assailant."
A slight smirk.
"After such, thier souls can go back to the ether. I have no need in keeping them. and no intention of twisting them to some kind of foulness that your probably imagining. Necromancy isn't always what those that fear it claim it is."

The scout frowned, "Can we not go to the Council and garner one of their emissaries who would better be able to advise you?" In otherwords, Manveru could be punished for doing some of those things.

Yup, Malik knew what he was talking about and seemed rather confident that he could take care of it. Very soothing indeed to think of. And yes...he was right...the expensive security system may yet pay off for them. After all, things like Tarathiel may be able to somewhat get through but other things such as Underdark critters may not be able to just waltz through.Animal instincts and all. Though the thought of bringing dead bodies in...well that didn't please her but she knew he would be doing that out of her sight. Though she would applaud Malik on his soothing of the other about what he intended with his favored necromancy rather than just saying he'd use it. See, he did have PR skills, she knew it. A blink at Manveru though. "There is nothing better than first hand accounts, Manveru."

"Black then, searing Pain. I sincerely doubt anyone saw more than I." He held out his leg, "I could only guess at the creature by the wounds and marks."

She let out a self-deprecating chuckle then turned to stare at him for a long moment, considering what he'd said. "And you would have responded so easily by me taking things from you?" A raised eyebrow helped to drive that point home. She knew how he felt about women and the way he'd been treated before. Women had taken everything they wanted with not a single care to his own feelings as far as he was concerned that was over. He'd said just that in his own words often enough. But the other half of his question was a thought provoking one. Why hadn't she asked him for it? she needed to carefully consider her answer on that one so she returned to her task, carefully scrubbing every inch of her clothes, ridding them of the goo that had taken residence from the battle with the worm. She didn't want him to feel like he was obligated to spend time with her and asking him surely would have fallen right in line with the deal they'd made. Instead of giving him a reason she sat back on her heels and turned her head to regard him, her gaze vulnerable. "What would your answer have been?" she whispered softly.

He perhaps narrowed his eyes a little at her accussing him on the taking issue. "No I wouldn't of...but I know you are not one to ask, simply because you think you would be denied. You would try to take...and yes I would of not let you, but I would of known that you after something and perhaps didn't know how just to get it any other way." He was kind of the same way, not sure how to get something and thus turned back to ways he only knew how to accomplish his wants.
Sevilin was still weary with her though in that aspect. Malik's letting put forth test that he had taken up had ended in less than stellar results as far as he was concerened and thus he still watched her for ill intent. But not was not the time to live in the past, for there was a different matter at hand. "You think...that I do things just to agrivate you...but there are some things I can't deny. You...for whatever reason, have a sense of comfort about you that I find...and perhaps even crave. You...have given that before and if you are in need of the return...then why would I deny you of it? Pregnant or not..."

The earth around Honoursfield shuttered, the ground opened in a few places allowing carbon monoxide to escape from beneath the earth. Villagers panicked as the natural dissaster smote ruin onto some of their restored city. Some loose stallagmites fell from the cavern roof, onto some of the outskirts of the city. Yet again, the wooden pallisade found itself at the mercy of nature.
Erchin, a local village girl rushed to the clinic to aquire help for this nasty occurance.

Kat looked up... what was that? had she imagined it?
She had been tending the broken ankle of a small and rather loud boy and had not been paying attention to her surroundings. Standing up she now realized the little hospital room was in a state of confusion.
What was going on? Kat craned her head over the rushing people, looking for Moonstone, but she couldn't find him. Where was he? she needed help!

Educated guesses based on evidence that has been given can be just as good as well. The point is, it's something that can be dealt with." And that was all that mattered, right? Good. Because you know if it was back on Lich scale...oh there would be not enough of even her positive attitude to make things even seem better. Though there was something more interesting here...this was a purian...and he had come to them. Even if bleeding to death, she doubted that with thier other selves reputations preceeding them, and them still trying to more or less rectify that impression to who was important in thier qualification, that someone would brave the two who seemed to hold a rather unsavory record. Thus her funny little unbusiness like questions. "Manveru...why did you come here? I don't think you ignorant to what you should know about this place..."

Erchin floundered into the hospital, and looked for the oly person she knew that could treat injuries, Kat. Kat had earlier alievated pain in her wrist caused by falling down a small cache. Erchin grabbed Kat's wrists, "Momma's got coaghing! Pappa's got a rock on 'em, and little Jelly wont get out of bed!" She pulled on the wrists of the much bigger girl, and started to cry. "If you don't come, they gonna die!" She burst out into tears, anything she tried to say at this point was lost in the jumble of yelps and howls made by a hysteric girl.
Manveru turned his weary eyes to the elf who spoke to him, "As cruel as your natures may have been, the choice before me was seek your help and pray that you would assist me, or die on the road." Upon thinking, maybe coming here was a bad idea after all. In Manveru's rush to find aid, he had completely over looked the history of this place and the people here.
