Seto frowned at Mokuba's text, but he couldn't take the risk and text him back. He closed the message and put the phone back on the dash, waiting for Anzu to instruct them further. His words to Jounouchi were meant to be comforting, but he was unsure if he could convince himself to believe them. Particularly in regards to saving everyone. Things had worked out in similar past situations, such as during the Battle City tournament when Malik had possessed and pitted Yuugi and his friends against one another. Still, this spirit might just be a lot more twisted and ******** up than Malik's dark side could ever have hoped to be. Malik's plan might have been misguided, but he had a plan. This Shikigami sounded like it was just contracted to cause suffering for the sake of suffering, moreover, it seemed to enjoy the pain of its victims immensely. Throw in the supernatural element and this thing was infinitely more dangerous than anything Seto had ever faced. Saving Shizuka, pulling Anzu away from a deadly spirit and managing to not get either himself or Jounouchi killed would likely prove to be a Herculean task.
He would have to stay calm and in control though. Right now Jounouchi clearly had a lot more to lose, with both his close friend and sister in imminent danger. Seto had to be strong, defeat was not something he ever considered to be an option. This situation couldn't be approached any differently.
((Stalling as even I'm not sure where Shikigami Anzu is going. sweatdrop ))

Although a plan seemed impossible, Jounouchi had been quietly thinking of potential solutions to himself. He wondered if Futata would be able to find a way to exorcise the spirit. If they could pull that off, it would, at least temporarily, save both Shizuka and Anzu. But it was too risky to go back to the priestess, or to even voice the idea to Kaiba. Who knew if the spirit was capable of even tracking their every movement?
((Hahaha, uh-oh. I thought you had a plan! Like... using Shizuka and Anzu as a bargaining chip or something... I can help think of ideas, but it's difficult when I don't really know what you're planning to accomplish with all this in the first place. XD))

After what seemed like an agonising eternity, the silence was finally broken by the small ring announcing Seto had a text message. He glanced at it and his face hardened. 'This is it,' he said through gritted teeth, tossing the phone to Jounouchi so he could see where they were going. He shifted the limo into drive and sped off, daring authorities to pull a Kaiba Corp limo over for speeding.
((Sorry to keep you in suspense, not that this did much, but rehearsals all day and then Wind Band concert last night, but no more band until June! smile
Well, before we made the save Shizuka/Jounouchi or Mokuba/Seto plan I had the possess Anzu plan. I figured I could easily combine plans but I have the slight problem of I have no idea where Anzu and Shizuka are. I know very little about both real Japan geography and Yu-Gi-Oh Japan geography. So while I can think of millions of 'show down' ideas, it's the actual trying to write how Seto and Jounouchi don't just magically poof at whatever magical location Shizuka and Anzu are in. So hey, if you have ideas on filling in a location I'd be willing to roll with that. sweatdrop ))

Jounouchi looked down at the text quietly. Now all he could do was stare ahead as they made their way to their destination.
((It's cool; I've been super busy the last few days. Doing some major spring cleaning and such.
Ah, I see. XD Well I do not believe Domino is a real city in Japan, but from what we see of it, it seems like a pretty typical mid-sized Japanese city, like where I stayed in Hiroshima. Should have a downtown area, but also a lot of green and trees, hills, gardens, residential areas, as well as tiny crop fields. It also seems to be near the ocean, from a number of occurrences involving it. When driving along highways in Japan, it's common to switch between large, fenced-off hills, small patches of farmland, bridges, treed areas, and ocean. If they want somewhere private, it could easily be a beach, a little ways into some woods (not like heavy American mountain woods, but just like wooded areas), or a number of other natural, empty locations. The spirit could just text them coordinates so it's not a public address.))

'Alright, so we know where we are going, any ideas on a game plan?' Seto asked, more to make conversation and try to keep Jounouchi from getting too lost in his own fear and misery than to actually identify a viable strategy with so many variables still unknown.
((Sorry, crazy week. I did finally work up the nerve to finally talk with my supervisor about my depression though, which has been helpful and he was pretty supportive. I think it's removed a lot of pressure linked to the thesis. So yea. With a conference the 26th and 27th and just trying to get lots done over the next couple of weeks before I go home might be a bit sporadic in terms of updating. Honestly it'll just depend on how inspired I feel. Usually when I poof away it's because busy overwhelms creativity, but sometimes it doesn't work that way, I can hope. smile However, in just over two weeks I'll be in CA so there won't be an 8 hour time difference for a month.
Didn't think Domino was real, but yea wasn't sure how to really figure out navigating and directing. The topographical description is pretty helpful though. I'd be surprised if Jounouchi just recognised coordinates so unless he's lost in mindless thought location makes more sense perhaps. Though yes, I still haven't given a where. My head is not attached to any particular location just yet so I'll fill it in when we get closer, or if Jou actually has some semblance of a plan (even if it might not work) you can reveal any location you might have a preference for. xd
Haha, my boyfriend asked what was going on (in the rp). I tried to explain and he asked, so how do you un-possess someone? I told him to stay tuned and he said do you have to sex it out? I reminded him that sexy Anzu probably wasn't where this rp was going as much and he said 'no, Kaiba and Joey. Evil spirits are evil and thus prejudice douches and will immediately flee the vicinity to get away from the gay sex.' I'm smh but thought you might find that amusing. stressed ))

"...I... I'm not sure." Jounouchi frowned to himself, "I mean... we have no idea what the spirit's going to want from us once we're there. It obviously can kill us any time, so why does it need to lure us anywhere unless it wants something it can't make us do?" he closed his eyes, thinking more, "We don't know how to get it out of Anzu or how to hurt it in any way yet. And we can't attack Anzu herself; she didn't do anything to deserve this, and it probably wouldn't hurt the spirit." he cursed under his breath, "The only thing we've got is whatever it wants from us, and we don't even know what that is..." he hated to say this next part, but it seemed like the only option at this point, "...we'll just... have to try talking with it. Maybe we can at least find out what this's all been about, or who put the spirit up to this... we might need to bargain."
He hesitated at that. Jounouchi himself would be willing to bargain just about anything for Shizuka's and Anzu's collective safety, but would Kaiba? The guy didn't consider either of them friends. He hardly knew the girls, and his only connection to them was being rivals with their friends and family. Kaiba had absolutely no reason to risk himself or offer anything up for their safety. Except for his own morals, which he had very few of.
"...Kaiba..." Jounouchi began painfully, his pride stinging at this despite the desperate circumstances, "If... if there's anything we can do to save them... even if we have to bargain or sacrifice something... please, I'm begging you... do it. I... I don't care if I owe you for the rest of my life or... or whatever happens. I know you don't have as much at stake for this, but I promise you, if we end up in a situation where Mokuba is in danger, I will do everything I can to protect him." he looked him in the eyes, his normally stubborn and defiant expression broken down into nothing but desperation. Talking about protecting Mokuba wasn't a return offer; Jounouchi would do that no matter what, even if this situation had never happened, but it was the only thing he could think to say to help sway Kaiba.
((I'm glad you told your supervisor, and that it's helped! Good for you. And also good you'll be back in CA soon, not just for timezones, but for a break.
Hmm, thinking about it more, my gut seems to keep saying a beach would make most sense. It would be a small one that is closed down because of too many jellyfish or a water pollutant or something, so it would be private, but could still have a name and location. So does that work for you?
OMG that's awesome. XD Sounds like a good plan too. I'm sure Jounouchi will come up with it soon enough, haha.))

Seto sat in silence for a few moments, he wasn't sure how to respond when Jounouchi clearly hadn't grasped the worst possible scenarios they could be preparing to face.
Finally he answered, 'look, if it was something as simple as buying the spirit off there would be no question. I just don't think it's likely a venomous spirit has a material interest. Whatever 'owing' me might entail, I'm not entirely sure it'd be worth much if say what the spirit demands is my life, which I'm not going to lie, I'm not overly thrilled about parting with that if I can help it.' His expression was grim. He wouldn't hesitate to cut the spirit a check, to handover his entire corporation and life's work if it would just make this all go away. From everything he knew and that they'd been told about Shikigami by both Domon and Futata he was certain blood would be the price. He just wasn't sure how much.
((Break will be good too, and I think I was leaning toward beach so that probably works.
Lol, well I'm not sure Kaiba is quite ready for that plan just yet, although I'd fully encourage him. ^_~))

Jounouchi tensed, his walls going back up, "Look, I don't know what it wants either, but I don't think it wants us to just offer our lives! It's been playing with us this whole time! Every time we've had a near-death experience, we've just barely managed to have a way to get out of it. The thing could've easily not given us that option. If it wanted us dead, we'd be dead already. It has to be something else." he insisted firmly, not willing to admit there might be a bargain Kaiba didn't consider was worth Shizuka's life.
((Okay good.
And yeah, I think we'd both need to do some heavy encouraging. XD))

'I agree that it doesn't want us dead...yet. I don't agree that if it wanted us dead we'd be dead already. I think it's just torturing us, when it gets bored I think we will be dead. I mean honestly, what else could this thing possibly want? Particularly what could it want that we would have any power to give it? No, our best odds are, sick as it is, to keep it amused. Our suffering is what this thing feeds off of, so long as it feels it has a new low to push us toward it'll keep us alive. Like a cat playing with a mouse. When the mouse gets boring it gets eaten,' Seto kept his eyes on the road, unable to face Jounouchi while he spoke. He firmly believed that was what they were up against. There were no whys, no reason and no amount of planning to just bargain and acquiesce would save them. He didn't want to just tell Jounouchi that he wouldn't try and save his sister, or Anzu, because that wasn't the case. They weren't likely to be running through some horror themed obstacle course, or even attempting to win a card game. Seto didn't want to say it, but he could just imagine the situation coming down to a 'slit your own throat or I'll kill one of the hostages' scenario. Risking his life fighting he could do, bowing down and committing suicide, he just didn't think he could do that so easily. For his brother in a heartbeat, but for anyone else, he just wasn't that hero.

"Fine, if that's what it wants, then we'll do it. But if that isn't what it wants... if there's possibly something we can offer it..." Jounouchi was biting his lip hard, desperately grasping at any possibility of safely rescuing his sister and friend.

'Sure Jounouchi, if I can cut an evil spirit a check or something similar I'd do it. That just doesn't make sense though and you are no longer asking me to help you, you are asking me to lie to you. I promise you I'll do everything in my power to get everyone out alive, but I'm not going in there with you suffering some delusion that we are about to play let's make a deal. I don't want you to suffer a nervous break down but you do need your head in the game. Warfare is not about hoping you can talk the enemy down, it's about planning to kill them before they kill you. That is the only kind of thinking worth anything right now. How are we going to win, not how are we going to nicely convince a monster that what it really wants is to let our friends go if I buy it a nice all expenses paid vacation in Hawaii,' Seto could hear his voice cracking, and new he was starting to sound slightly ridiculous. He wanted Jounouchi to be hopeful, but not absolutely delusional. There was no way this thing was going to ask for anything they could physically handover.

"But we can't kill it!" Jounouchi argued, "How they hell can we plan to beat it in a war if there's no way we can actually hurt it?! At least bargaining is something we have a chance of pulling off!"

'We can't kill it yet. What do you want to offer it then? Because it's certainly not going to want cash as that can't be useful in whatever realm spirits come from, and it's apparently already managed to get a hold of a nice luxury sports car?' Seto asked, wondering what Jounouchi could possibly be thinking.

"...maybe it wants to find a new way to torment us." Jounouchi said quietly, "Maybe just... have us do something we wouldn't normally do, something horrible, for the sake of its entertainment." he frowned, thinking it was very possible the spirit might want them to fight to the death, or go kill some innocent person, or hurt themselves intentionally, "I know it doesn't want material things, but that doesn't mean it's luring us all the way here for no reason."

'I agree, I just don't want to promise you something that I can't necessarily offer. Material things I can offer, other than that, well...I promise I'll keep an open mind and do whatever I can, that doesn't mean I'll be able to do whatever it asks. We will figure something else out in the event that we are being asked the impossible.'
