Nothing about this lets me know that it's a fighting tournament other than its past history as a fighting tournament. The packaging needs to match the product, son.

Loving the colors and the font - trash the bevel & emboss and or at least take it down a notch on the GTB IV and turn it off for certain on the sub-text.
Never ever ever touch bevel & emboss unless you can really make it look amazing. Otherwise it's an awful feature. Try playing around with shadows and highlights if you want that raised off the page look but I think it might do better being flat and spicing up the color a bit to make the subtext pop. I like the brushes but the "arcane brush" you might want to be careful with because of how oft' used it is but it's a cool brush. I like it, just don't add anymore of them. What you have there is plenty.
The different shades of blue is nice, I like the general feel of it so far.
=3 Nice work - keep playing with it.
Edit: Not necessarily Crawley - maybe the snowflake brush is a little misleading and strange though but I like the rough and yet elegant feel to it.

Thanks Rake, if only it were literally so. No me gusta las...pluie.
Vin> I know it's a wip, but are you going to add shine or depth to the letters at all? They're looking a little flat. The graphics look nice, though, except for the stamp/spell circle being an almost jarringly different shade of blue. Edit: haha, pretty much the exact opposite of what Kat said xD

C. Fox *slowly steps in, crossing arms with the same pace* Vin, It's time. Not now. Sorta got to get this GTB 4 logo and thread up first. Then I might need to head out for a bit. A busy Monday for me. In addition, we may need to choose a new server, something closer to the southern border. Cause Sonic Cage Dome is in New York, thus the high pings.

Vintrict It's like I need a centralized theme like Ecks usually does. It really doesn't come together as well without a theme to it. It's just a bunch of 'pretty graphics' put together into a banner, like looking at a table of glassware at a garage sale. Also, too many snowflakes. Your image needs to be hot blooded. scream burning_eyes

Let me summarize my post since it's bound to get buried - Nix the snowflakes, nix the bevel and emboss, add a dash of color besides blue, keep the font cause I like it and think it works - Mess with the design a bit and try to find thematically suited brushes.
Careful with the arcane brush cause it's popular and overused.
Edit: And use Wulf's stuff as inspiration but don't try and BE Wulf. Go your own way, do your own thing, make your own style.
Edit: Easy on the glows and shadows too. It's very easy to over do it. "Sometimes simple is best" and "less is more."

@Crawley: Yeeeah. I may need to go find an image to help emphasize the concept of it being fighting, in addition to a more potent "punch" to the graphics.
@Angel: Embel, I agree, is like the amateur's way of adding depth. In truth, I have no idea how the hell Ecks puts a shine on his text other than manually doing it with the brush tool and just whiting, smudging, and blurring. The arcane brush was my way of adding to what usually comes in this type of tournament, but it was most likely caused with me trying to get eye candy. I'm going to likely go the flat text route first.
@Matanago: Yeah, same thing.
@Jello: The snowflake was a reference again to elements/magic, but I may just need to restart this.

Suggested theme: Some sort of roulette wheel including icons like the snowflake, a ball of fire, a fist, a sword, a lucha mask, etc. [edit] Anticipated response to Vintrict @Jello: The snowflake was a reference again to elements/magic, but I may just need to restart this. [edit 2]

Don't restart from scratch - just mess with it.
Save out what you have as version #1 or whatever number and keep working. Then, you have multiple versions to compare and sometimes you find yourself going back to an earlier version and tweaking only a tiny thing.
Depth though can be alluded to be layering of things, and a subtle shadow or glow to separate one thing from another. Just a tad bit, to make it pop.

There's nothing else better, I think.
It's either a server in New York or Virginia.
Also, I find everything wrong with that banner. Not selling it.

I'll look around, but for now, I guess we'll stick with the same room. In general about the banner, I'll be messing around with it for the next couple of hours. I understand all too well how much work it takes to make a working graphic.
