I know from personal experience that that would just turn people away. I feel really awkward trying to apply to an "elite" guild and end up closing the window because I'm not sure my request would be up to standard.
Says who?
I find that I'd rather go for a small guild. It means that there's less of a chance of hundreds of threads littering a gajillion forums moderated by people who don't have time, energy, or are willing to patrol and enforce the rules set in.
I mean, join magical poll land. try to make sense of it. That's the largest guild on Gaia. go run and see how quickly you can get something started.
I find it just drowns people's opinions and actions out. Why do you think the Great Convergence is slower than ever? Because despite having "so much more members" they can't get any fresh ideas coming through.
Its not like our ranking would suffer, first of all. I mean, We have to double our guild size just to get into #1 slot, easily. That ain't going to happen either.
Its not like cutting several slackers out will really affect anything. I don't see how anyone can be intimidated by a small guild. In fact, the only thing that may make people not want to go into a small guild is if the post count is low.
I'm not talking about going from 500 members to 5 here. Its thinning the ranks, not a full demobilization of the Galaxy's army. You're blowing things out of proportion.
I mean, a guild with 300 members versus a guild with 500 doesn't make a lot of difference. If you're that sensitive to that much dead weight, then you can go tell them to get active. To me, its tiring to see our number keep going up, and our activity getting slower and slower.
That, and it's a pain in the butt to search for names thoughout the list the longer it gets. But I guess next time we grant modship, you can sift through the 50, 60, 70 pages that we'll be at, for one small tiny name.
