She tried to run quieter, be more careful about where she put her feet, but it was hard to do that, and keep an eye on the rat at the same time. "oh please...." she begged the rat "please stop, we're not going to hurt you, we want to help, WE need help" she cried, her voice full of emotion.

Could be they were running in circles for no reason. She just focused on the rat letting Owlheart and Fawn try and get its attention. Winding through trees she kept up the speed she could muster while still keeping sight of the rat.

Hit Points: 6/7 || Magic Used: Apprentice: 1/1 fighting___________________ As she pulled back, Cattleya was displeased to find that the beast was far stronger than she. She inhaled, trying to get a sense of what exactly everyone else was doing. She had never paid much attention to her combat lessons, after all. Perhaps it was time to start, if the Lifebringers had gone and decided to begin resurrecting these. It was hard not to hesitate, though, and more so when the thing began to talk. There were a million things she wanted to say. That was always her first instinct, after all; Cat liked to talk. " If you can understand us, then why are you - ?" she asked, and then shook her head. No, these beasts had killed at least seven very competent nouls already - including, possibly, ascended, who could fly. It didn't have to make sense to her; it was more important that she was alive first, and then she could go find one that was...calmer. There were nice dire rats, right? Wouldn't it stand to reason that there were...these things...which worked the same way? " None of this makes any sense to me," she said, " But I'm not about to stand by when life is at stake." She lunged forward, then, though her speech probably telegraphed her intent long before she came within reach.

At the River There isn’t much blood for Indira and Cinder to follow… which is probably a good sign, all things considered, but what she does spot continues left into an area of thicker foliage. The river widens as they walk, but the current remains peaceful. Indira spots something along the edge of the bank. Another of those strange, giant footprints, but inside of it are a few strands of blue and white hair, too coarse to belong to a noulicorn. Just beyond this are a few small dire rat footprints scampering into the bushes. Quote: Do you follow the footprints? OR Keep following the river? No need to roll this round! Rat Race! The rat ducks and tumbles through the underbrush, scurrying into knotholes too small for the noulicorns to follow and popping out the other side with a squeak, all the while glancing over their shoulder to watch their pursuers. It’s a close one, but Owlheart manages to swing in front of the rat to block their path right before Nereida boxes it in from the rear, with Fawn coming in behind them. The rat pants, darting forward this way and that only to be blocked in by hooves on all sides. Finally, the creature stops, sits, and cleans their whiskers with nervous twitches. “Here to bully me, are you?” it sniffs, glaring between the three nouls with oil spot eyes. “What do you want?” Quote: If you want answers from this rat, you’ll have to do some convincing! Roll 2d6 + CHARM to question the rat. You’ll only get to ask ONE question each, so choose it carefully! --- Congrats Revel1984, you caught the rat! Battling the Beast! The beast is overwhelmed! Kicks and gouges come at it from every angle while it’s being held down from above. Finally, it stops struggling and snapping and collapses, exhausted, into the dirt. The beast has been defeated! It’s far from dead but all the fight has gone out of it for now. It eyes the group of noulicorns and familiars around it, teeth bared and eyes gleaming. “Thank-you for saving me!” The grey and white noulicorn steps forward, walking gingerly from her injuries. “These things took my brother and several other noulicorns.” She turns to face the group. “I managed to get away, I was going to get help but this one broke away from the pack and came after me. We need to find them!” Quote: Attempt to question the beast? You’ll need to roll 2d6 + CHARM if you want to get any straight answers from it! OR Head down the trail and try to follow the tracks? onewintersnite Dryxel’s fantastic fighting skills have won you the straight haired doe!

Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: Adept: 2/2 Following the river___________________ Scanning as much of the river bank as possible was mentally taxing. Especially with the weight of knowing that missing something crucial could costs lives. One mistake, one misjudgment here could have serious consequences. The lack of clear clues had Indira gritting her teeth. But she must preserve. While that silly aqua had taken off in the other direction, her water reading had provided a valuable clue. The noulicorns were not in the river. That meant that they had to have exited onto the banks at some point. There would be more tracks. She would find them. She walked near Cinder, at the fastest pace she could maintain while still scanning as closely as possible. She prayed to Grandfather Tree that she hadn't missed the clue needed to find the noulicorns. That would be unforgivable. Fleet shifted on her back, feeling her own worries. The faery was silent. She didn't blame him. Just as her frustration was starting to reach a head, she spotted something. Another strange foot print. "Cider." Her voice was still low. There was no knowing how close they were to the beasts. She scrutinized the four toed print. "Only one." Then she noticed the hair. Not noulicorn. It was course. Her eyes followed along and then settled on more prints. Rat this time. They seemed to head into the bushes. She paused. "I think one of the predators is chasing down a rat." Her mind churned, thinking of the consequences. "I don't see any prints from nouls, or from more of the beasts. I can only think they continued on, leaving one of the beasts to chase down the rat. I don't like to think about something crashing through the Homewood, looking for a meal, but I don't think that's the way they took Brightheart and the others." Now this was a real risk. She look at the prints once more, took a deep breath and closed her eyes. "I'm going to continue along the river." Indira fervently hoped that this was the right choice, and she hadn't just sentenced at least one Ascended to being eaten.

Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: Apprentice: 1/1 Interogating the rat
___________________ Nereida gazed at the rat trying to read its emotions, thoughts, body language. Something had scared this creature she was positive how its twitching motions coincided with its response to being cornered. Breathing slowly she steadied her heart from beating out of her chest. Once she regained her composure she used her soft voice to try and console the creature.
"I'm sorry we chased after you. There are dangerous creatures running around right now. Have you seen any other nouls pass through here? Please let us know if you can help".
As stated before she was a scholar since she was younger. This rat had to know something if each of them simply answered a question. One of the three does just had to get through to this Dire rat. Looking between the other two does she sighed, "Alright, you guys try. Perhaps one of us can get something out".
Looking back the way they had come she pondered how the other two does were faring heading down the river. For that matter, she really wondered about those screams that carried in the air before she set off to find the rat.Nereida WC: 192

He growled at the beast he had no patients for these creatures. They clearly could reason and think so they had not had any clear reason to any noulicorn and yet they had.

Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: Adept: 1/2 ___________________ Specterdust breathed a sigh of relief just as Kevin ran up to her. The wee brat had fled and stayed well out of the way. So much for being a sidekick in that moment, but Specterdust couldn’t entirely blame him. The beast was much larger than a cat beast. She then let out a snort and stomped a hoof at the massive creature. Her attention then turned to the grey doe who thanked them, Specter’s ears swiveled forwards at the mention of these things taking her brother and other noulicorns. So there was a chance more were alive! The tiny grey and white doe was more a noul of action than words. She didn’t really feel like asking it questions or really talking to it. Dryxel already was taking the lead on questioning it and Specterdust felt it was time to move on and see if she could catch up with the rest. She felt lucky that she managed to avoid injury but there was more than one of those things out here and she needed to be on alert. “Let’s go find the rest of the group, Kevin. Maybe they found a lead to where the rest of the noulicorns are.” Then Specterdust took off at a trot, away from the group and back down the trail. Hit Points: 7/7 || Magic Used: Apprentice: 1/1 ___________________ Follow the RiverThe promising clues faded, and Cinder found herself floundering about on the trail, looking for the next thing, hoping that it would be just around the corner. Her mounting frustration, coupled with the looming urgency of their quest, put her quite on edge. Moving up next to Indira, the young doe lowered her head to sniff at the print, carefully taking in the coarse blue and white hairs and the footsteps veering off their current path. "I hope it isn't hurt," she said after a moment's consideration. The healer in her balked at the thought of walking past this trail without making sure whoever had left it was fine. Especially if the rat in question was a friendly inhabitant of the area... Cinder had learned in recent months that an influx of dire rats had moved into the Homewood, having been granted gifts and obviously displaying favorable attitudes toward noul society. But it was hard to tell. And it wasn't what they were trying to get done right now. A brief flash of reluctance crossed her face, and then she kept walking past. "Hopefully we'll find more up ahead," she said with a sigh. Blundering about by the river wasn't going to help Brightheart, either.

Hit Points: 5/7 || Magic Used: 0/0 ___________________ Continuing down the trail. Sweetpea was so thankful that the beast finally went down. She breathed heavily, exhausted from the fight. She was going to have to learn some better self defense or something, because she wasn't sure how much more of that crap she could take. She looked over the grey and white doe from afar, making sure she wasn't greiviously injured. It was encouraging that they'd not only saved this noul, but that they were on the right track to find the others. As others started to question the predator, she only hesitated a second before turning to Havoc. "I don't think we should waste any time if there are others ahead that need saved. But I'm scared to face them myself. Will you keep going with me so we can find them?" She didn't even try to look pleading, helpless, or anything else this time, she was just being honest. She was going to have to get stronger after this. She was learning her lesson.
