I don't really like sci-fi but I'll give it a try.

I recommend the Pendragon series by D.J. MacHale. I guess it's sci-fi, but I'd label it as adventure, action, and mystery. This series has consumed my life~ > . <
I also like Beast by Donna Jo Napoli. It's similar to Beauty and the Beast (the Disney movie), only the tale is much different, and it's much more emotional. It centers around a Persian prince who is turned into a lion because of a religious mistake he made against painting a camel... (I realize that sounds weird.)
A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb is like Twilight, only well-written, and the characters actually have developing personalities (no offense, Twilight fans). It's about a ghost who struggles with the reasons she was sent to hell and must cling to human hosts to stay out of hell. It has a ton of romance, though not the trashy kind.

I've read Beast. It was really good.
Also, I've heard nothing but good about the Pendragon stuff, so I may read that.
"is like Twilight, only well-written" Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha rofl
I love that.

Haha, thanks. :'D
Though the slight comparison to Twilight isn't credited to me; I got it from a book review. Though I do agree with it. XP

I would recommend The Dream Thief by Shanna Abe.
It's really good but it's mostly romance. It's hard to put down which is saying something from me. Very rarely do I find it as hard to put a book sown as I did this one. I read it in 3 days. Again unheard of for me unless it's a Tamora Pierce book and I have a lot of free time and can be pried away from the internet.

Just a note of caution Alan - Pendragon, in the very beginning may not seem like a literary masterpiece. After all, it is told from the viewpoint of a 14-year-old male. Some people may be bothered by it, but I find it enjoyable, funny, and most of all easy to relate to. You're quite lucky, because the last book in the series just came out on May 12th. No waiting for you :3 I just started reading it in January, and almost everyday I think about it @_@
It's just as big a deal to me as Tamora Pierce's work is, if not more.

Honestly, throughout the first book I was like, "This is annoying..." But after a while it gets addicting. I guess I got more into it in the 2nd book, and really addicted in the 3rd.
What I really like is the plot twists. Sometimes the main character makes a choice, and you're like, "BRILLIANT!" But then it fails and you're like, "DUH! Why didn't I see that coming?" After a while, you feel like you're the main character. :3

If you like plot twists then you should read Dies The Fire. But when you get it, do NOT read the back of the book. It will ruin the HUGE plot twist. Cover the book with paper then read it. You have to get through the first few chapters for it to pick up, but once it does you will never put it down until you're finished.

It's a wonderful book. Even my dog loved it. (Although he loved in the sense that he thought it tasted good)
I'm serious, DO NOT read the back of the book. Don't even let people tell you what it's about.

I feel so weird, I have never heard of any of these books, well pendragon but still... If you like fantasy books, I recommend any of the David eddings or Terry brooks books. also Piers Anthony's Incarmations of Imorrtality Was a great series.
