If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Anya scratched the creature, whose head lay in her lap. "How about... Searan?" she asked, and the creature tilted its neck. She'd been suggesting names for about half an hour, but almost every one of them the creature had rejected. Anya laughed as the not-so-little guy licked her cheek enthusiastically, making a bark-like noise. "Searan it is," she said, hugging him. She stood for a moment, walking to the little table by her fire and picking up a piece of bread, tossing it to Seanan, who jumped up on his hind legs and caught the piece in his teeth.

Luke went into Lunora's room, only to find her still asleep. He just sighed softly and crawled into bed with her. He was tired and needed a rest badly. He nestled down next to his sister and drifted off to sleep.

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Searan gave a loud, burping sound and bounded over to Anya's bed, curling up on the pillow. With a smile, the fairy followed him, sitting on the edge. "When you get bigger, you're gonna have to figure something else out," she teased the creature, scratching under its chin. Her fingers slid across the scaly armor there, and she paused. She'd felt something strange, and her fingers coiled around something thin. Searan didn't react, so she assumed it wasn't part of his skin, and tugged. The snapping sound of a metal clasp breaking, and she held the object in her hand, tilting her head. It was a long, silver chain, made of rusted links, and at the end, was a large, black stone. It was jagged, sharp, and shimmery, and she tilted it in the light until she could catch some sort of red in it. "Who put this on you?" she said out loud, looking up and not noticing as a cold, red eye reflected in the stone briefly before disappearing again. There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow paused on his way to his study. Looking around, he saw the edge of a tapestry lift up, as if by a breeze, and he frowned. There was something wrong about the sudden atmosphere, and he didn't particularly care for it at all. It's more than dangerous; it's even more than sinister. This is just sheer evil, he thought. Immediately, he entered his study, sealing it behind him and quickly rushing towards his bookshelves. He knew what book he was looking for, and he knew why. He just hoped he was utterly and undeniably wrong. [OOC:]This is just how bored I am...

Luke woke suddenly in a cold sweat. He had jsut had a horrible nightmare. He got out of Lunora's bed, who was still asleep. He didn't look to her as he headed to Jethrow's room.
Once he stepped out into the hallway, he felt the atmosphere completely change. This quickened his pace to Jenthrow.

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Searan and Anya tilted their heads at the stone in Anya's hand, the stone that was glowing. Searan sniffed it curiously, nudging it a bit and Anya giggled a little at the creature's antics. She knew that the pendant wasn't just something he'd picked up; somebody had put it on Searan. "Maybe somebody's trying to send a message. It could be like a rescue call, or something cool like that," she whispered to Searan, though she was only musing. It could just as easily be a marker that maybe his parents' owner had put on him. But that would mean he had somewhere to go home to. There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Flipping through the books he had on his table, Jethrow slowly became more and more frazzled. There was nothing that described the unexplained evil presence that had washed over the castle. He could name countless spells, and various creatures, but there had been no magic cast in that moment. In fact, it had felt like a scrying.... That was it! Quickly, he flung the books to the ground with a loud, thump and he grabbed another book in a rush. There it was; scrying. An evil presence could be presented in the form of a scryer, if one is attuned to the feeling of being watched. But, with a feeling so evil, the one who was actually being watched would not be able to feel the presence, because if it were that evil, they'd have to have physical contact with the instrument used. All Jethrow had to do, now, was establish who was being scryed in the castle, and how.

Luke looked for Jethrow, needing to tell him about his nightmare. He was beginning to worry for his sanity now. His heart was racing far too unequally to the panic he was feeling at that moment. He soon stopped dead. He felt like he couldn't breathe, like there was no longer any air. He collapsed onto the hallway rug, his breathing becoming labored.

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. "What was that?!" Anya said worriedly, jumping from the edge of the bed and dropping the stone in her hands onto the ground. It tumbled down beneath her bed, and she paid no attention, rushing to the door. Searan realized something was wrong, and he followed her, stopping short of the doorway, as she was training him to do. "Stay," she commanded him, leaving the room and leaving the doorway cracked. "Oh my god!" she muttered, rushing down the rest of the hallway to where Luke had collapsed, a few doorways away from Jethrow's. There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. "What was that?' Jethrow murmured, at the sound of the dull thud in the hall. He stood, grabbing his staff and moving wearily towards the study door. He heard another door creak open, creak shut, and footsteps dashing down the rug. His first thought was that something had happened to Anya, and he pushed the door open. Anya was fine, he could see, and she was kneeling by Luke, who had collapsed. "What happened?" the wizard said warily, gently pushing Anya back from Luke and eyeing her before kneeling where she had been. He was still breathing, and his heart was beating, but there was something wrong about the situation. And he was so close to my door...

Luke looked up through fading vision to see Anya and then Jethrow. He couldn't speak to tell them what was wrong. He could say anything, just try to gasp for air as his consciousness slowly slipped away. He tried his best to tell them that he couldn't breathe. He tried so hard, his strength slipping away.

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Anya looked at Jethrow in disbelief; it was almost as if he believed she'd done this to Luke. She heard the wheezing and looked down, biting her lip and watching as Jethrow looked for a wound, or something. "He needs help!" she said exasperatedly, but the wizard still did nothing. Anya closed her eyes, and placed her hands on the ground, channeling healing energy through the wood floor and towards Luke. His lungs aren't taking in oxygen... But what's causing that? Both his trakea and his lungs are fine, but he still can't breathe... Flustered, Anya rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand, trying to figure out what she could do. Unless there was a physical wound, she couldn't heal him. "Jethrow, what's going on?" There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow heard the panicky tone of Anya's voice but ignored it. A darkened aura, he could feel it, was swarming around the area. What is it, why is it here, and why did it target Luke? the wizard thought hurriedly, ignoring Anya's healing efforts. Quickly, he allowed his own hand to glow, soft green, and made a symbol by Luke's head. Sure enough, whatever had come into the castle and disturbed Jethrow was there, attacking the wolf demon before them. "If there is an angered spirit here, please, show yourself and release this young man." Though and evil spirit was never good, he almost hoped there was one. Because if there wasn't, he was quite sure that Anya was involved in this.

As if just in spite, the spirit did not release the demon, only choking him more.
Luke gasped loudly as the grip on his throat tightened dangerously. He tried clawing at his throat a bit, in a futile effort to make it stop and let him breathe. His eyes began to roll back a bit, feeling his world start to spin and his body start to go numb.

There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow frowned. A vindictive evil spirit was the cause of this, which led to two sides: one being that Anya was not involved, the other being that he wasn't quite sure how to appease the spirit. Finally, he moved aside so that Anya could come close. Now that Luke's oxygen had been completely cut off and he was, quite seriously, dying, healing would work on him. But it's also quite possible that it'll feed the spirit's powers, too. Sighing, Jethrow decided that he'd just have to take the risk of that to save Luke's life. "Concentrate on forcing his windpipe open," he said to Anya in a low voice, looking at her from the corner of his eye. If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Anya bit the inside of her cheek and nodded to her teacher, scooting forward and put her hand out, so it hovered over Luke's throat. The blue-purple glow was faint and weak, but she closed her eyes and concentrated, increasing the amount of power in her palm. The light flowed down towards Luke's throat, opening the trakea and pushing a forceful flow of oxygen down it. Anya could feel the power of the spirit that was fighting her, and she winced as her magic touched that of the spirit's.

Luke felt his throat forced open, him gasping as much air as he could at the moment he could breathe. His eyes fluttered some and closed as he gulped air, his oxygen restored. He still felt numb and his world was still spinning some, but not as much as before.

There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow let out a sigh of relief as Luke started to breathe again. Carefully, he put his hands under Luke's shoulders, pushing him up to an upright position, where breathing would be made easier. He allowed the young man to lean on his shoulder, so he didn't fall back again. "I'm not quite sure if you managed to expel the spirit, Anya, but it has let Luke live this time," the wizard said to his student, unable to meet her eyes. He was suddenly guilt-ridden; he'd thought Anya was the cause of Lunora's sickness in the first place, and then assumed she'd attempted to kill Luke. Clearly, that wasn't the case. Jethrow had seen the clash of Anya's magic and the spirit's power, and he had to admit it had been clear which power was good and which was evil. Then what is attacking these demons? Who's next? If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Anya sighed in relief as Jethrow did, pushing her bangs behind her ear and leaning against the hallway wall as her master helped Luke sit up. She didn't hear Jethrow's words, and wasn't all too concerned with what he was saying. In fact, she found herself suddenly exhausted and unable to pay attention to more than the pattern of the wall. The spirit, on its way out, had practically drained Anya's power with it, which seemed to have affected the spirit, at least. "Can you tell us what happened?" Anya asked quietly, hoping that it was clear that Luke didn't have to answer until he could breathe again. She heard her door creak a bit, and winced, hoping Searan didn't come out to explore. It was bad to keep him cooped up all the time, but she'd have to wait until Jethrow was fast asleep before Searan could go outside. C'mon, little guy; don't blow it now.

Luke panted some, regaining his normal breathing, feeling himself being helped to sit up. He groaned softly as he felt being moved and leaned on someone's shoulder. He didn't want to open his eyes. It would just make him dizzy and he didn't want that. "I.... I came to tell... Jethrow about a dream... I had." he wheezed. His throat was raw from all the choking. "As I walked.... It felt like... the... the air had been... sucked out... Then... I blacked out...."

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream. Anya immediately began chewing her lip, thinking long and hard. She'd felt the magic, after all, that the spirit had been using, and she could tell that it was beyond a doubt destructive and evil. But what the spirit wanted out of Luke's death was completely beyond her. Even a malicious spirit wouldn't do such a drastic thing without a reason. A want for power, a blood-thirst, something! It doesn't make sense, at all. She attempted to gauge Jethrow's reaction, but his expression was being carefully controlled, and she let out a sigh of frustration, closing her eyes and thinking, even against the headache that had started building up behind her temple. "A dream?" she said, suddenly remembering that part of Luke's explanation. "What kind of dream?" There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing. Jethrow looked up at Luke as Anya questioned for the dream. When she had free time, she often read books about philosophy and such, and he knew that recently a volume on dream-meanings of his library had been borrowed. "Yes; the dream may give us a sign as to the spirit's attack," the wizard said in his grave voice, but he was only half paying attention. Anya had enough attention for detail that she could handle the dream. He instead thought over Luke's words on what the spirit had done. Air had been sucked out... A random spirit attack? Not possible. There had to have been a reason. Perhaps the dream was a powerful premonition that interfered with evil plots... Perhaps it has something to do with the dark presence felt just before all of this happened.
