Amun had explained that it was okay for Ialu to wear this, although the ex-slave was not convinced. Of course, it wasn't that Ialu didn't want to wear it. It was gorgeous. But he had only seen high emissaries and advisors wear these sorts of robes. But he supposed as long as Eladrian didn't mind it...

Ialu stepped out of the tent in robes of a light blue color, a little lighter than the color of his eyes. They were soft and lightweight, perfect for the blazing desert sun. There was white embroidery around the sleeves, hood, and hem. It ended just below his knees, the fabric doubling to allow easy movement when running or riding a horse. Beneath his light pants were white, and the new leather sandals were comfortable on his feet. He grinned at Eladrian, "This is... I've never worn anything this nice!"

"Sorry that I it's only one change of clothing, if it gets too damaged, I'll get new ones, so don't trouble yourself. "
Eladrian turned to the camel, the animal was the most strangest thing he'd ever seen, it had rams horns on it's head. But Amun had assured him that the animal was loyal and docile, it should be easy enough for Ialu to lead.
The Elf wanted them to ride Maya out in the dessert as much as possible, not to over burden the camel. They would ride or lead the camel in-case they came close to a settlement.

Ialu turned about, looking down at his clothes with a large grin, "Are you kidding? I love it!" He was used to some masters only giving him one change of clothes at a time. It was good for him, it meant he didn't have to worry about carrying too large of a pack. He glanced up and saw the camel, his eyes lighting up. He rushed over, letting his hand out for the beast to smell. He was confident, but gave the animal space. It wasn't long before the animal nuzzled his hand and grunted softly, "Oh wow... Look at her! She's beautiful." Ialu normally had a way with animals, at least those animals who didn't care about his sex life.

Amun resisted the urge to snicker, the both of them where acting like young boys. "That is a 'He'...the females have smaller horns." He gave the reins to Ialu. "Please try to remember all that I've said. when in a town you must speak in place of Lord Eladrian, his voice will reveal him if he speaks too much.
The elf heard. "But all people speak one language, then how..?"
Amun" interrupted. "You speak with a northern accent my Lord. It would be wise for you to keep silent." the merchant brushed his bearded face. "I have heard stories of your kind traveling amongst our people. I had never thought these to be true but you've made me a believer. There might even be others of your kind wandering about the dessert. Good Journey my Lord."

Eladrian nodded, then mounted up on Maya, once Ialu was mounted behind him they set out. heading at a different direction from the caravan. the caravan was headed to the next city, but the elf wanted to move on to the following city. it would be two days and night's travel by horse.
The Elf pulled his hood over and tucked the cowl around his face as he was taught to keep the sun from burning his sensitive pale skin. Amun had given him a cream that protected his face from the harsh glare, telling him that Kohl they used wasn't just for make up, but it reduced the glare. the Cream had an added bonus of being tinted, giving him a deeper complexion.

Far from the caravan now, having said all of their goodbyes, Ialu lazily let his mount lead them through the desert. His hood was up, his kohl thick around his eyes as always. He felt comfortable, gabbing with the animal gently, "Forgive me, sir. I didn't mean to offend you. You are so beautiful, like your fairer counterparts. It is a compliment. I am called a woman sometimes as well..." He stroked the camel's neck, "Amun didn't tell me your name, so I guess I'll have to find one for you. I'll try a few, just tell me which ones you don't like, Moswen. You like Moswen, hm? It means 'light skin' in the ancient language." The camel paused, grunting and sneezing. Ialu laughed, "Okay, friend, I'll think of another."
He looked to Eladrian, "Hey, Eladrian... Um, I might need your help. I usually never spoke in front of royals or any visitors my mistresses had. Everything was informal. I don't want to embarrass you in public if I don't know what to say. Teach me to speak while we ride."

"Honestly I don't' know any of the customs in the south, Just refer to me as 'Lord' and call me 'Sir' or 'Sire' whenever you are speaking to me in public." Eladrian wasn't even guiding the mare, she walked along her nose pointed in the right direction.
"This is my first trip south Ialu, My mentor had many trips on his own.... if only I had paid more attention to his stories about being among the court." He frowned. "I think it's best that we avoid meeting the ruling class as much as possible......" He turned in his seat to look back as his friend. "Do I really have an accent?"

Ialu nodded at the suggestions. He would brainstorm some ideas on the way. He glanced at Eladrian again at the question, suddenly grinning, "Oh, of course. It's pretty thick too, although I wouldn't know. You are the first elf I've ever heard talking. I have only seen a few of your kind in my life... Don't worry if you can't hear it, I only detect it because I've lived here so long and only heard the people of Kemet speak."
He smiled as they walked along, taking in his surroundings and taking little sips of water when he felt the need. He finally said softly, "So, what was your life like? Where you are from, is it beautiful?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 28, 2010 4:20 pm

Eladrian smiled. "Yes it is beautiful.... but this place is beautiful as well. In my homeland, there forests as far as the eye can see. In the summer, it's green everywhere. it changes as the season pass...." The elf told him of the changing of seasons, of how cold the winter where. with little prompting the Elf also told him how the main city was. "It is built around the eldest of trees, the trees there are hundreds of feet high and there trucks are so wide you can fit a whole palace within it. He don't' harm them, but the High-Lord's palace is built around several of such trees, It was where I was brought to be assigned to my mentor..."
Eladrian Told him a little of the customs on how he became a knight. "After my training was completed, I almost wasn't able to join the ranks....you see, I was from a noble family but I was poor. I couldn't afford to buy a mount for myself, the kind of horse that is required of us."

Ialu listened, pure wonder in his eyes. He had seen forests around the Nile, but it was still sparse. He had no clue what a real forest was like, one you couldn't see the other side of. Just imagining it gave him chills. And thinking about a winter so cold that ice fell from the sky. He shivered and smiled. It must be like Heaven, where Eladrian was from. Listening to the stories, he frowned at Eladrian's problem, "You were poor even though you were from nobility?" It shocked him. Every noble he had ever encountered was more wealthy than Ialu could even imagine. He shook his head, "Is that when you found Maya?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 28, 2010 4:39 pm

"Maya was given to me as foal. My betrothed gave her to me as a gift." Seeing the expression on his face he smiled. "The girl I am betrothed was 10 years old when she took her turn breeding unicorns to horses, her first success she gave the foal to me. It's been 4 years now. Velila would be pleased on how close Maya and I have become."

Ialu blinked, suddenly staring at Eladrian. The man was betrothed. It was a custom sometimes for nobility in Kemet, but it was fading quickly. Usually as long as nobility married other nobility, there was no problem. But Eladrian had a girl waiting to marry him. Ialu couldn't imagine that pressure, but at the same time he felt a stab of jealousy. It was unfounded. This man was a noble, a knight. In Kemet, relationships between men were highly frowned upon, if not punished by death, and Ialu was sure it was the same everywhere else. He glanced back out into the desert, suddenly distant, "A future wife, hm? Do you find it comforting to have your life planned out for you? Or is it stifling?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 28, 2010 4:56 pm

"Oh, I'm not bothered by it. Velila is still very young, she might want to brake our betrothal if another young man catches her fancy." he laughed. "I hope that she finds love, I only accepted her becuase I knew that she wanted to continue Breeding hybrids for as long as she can. Velila is almost like a little sister to me, I want her to be happy. And besides, she is the youngest daughter of that house, there is no pressure to get married once she reaches the appropriate age. Personally, I like the freedom it gives me, I am able to serve my HighLord and have a chance of serving my country." He stroked Maya's neck in affection. "She gave me a chance of becoming a proper Knight, in thanks I will give her her freedom to chose her own husband when the time comes."

Ialu listened, glancing back towards Eladrian briefly, "I guess if things work out then it is okay. I've never known the burden of needing to uphold a family name or a legacy... I honestly don't know how I would handle it. But you seem to be okay with it... Be careful though," He smirked at Eladrian, winking at him, "She might just choose you. You're quite a man."
Riding along, he finally asked, "What are your parents like?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 28, 2010 5:13 pm

Eladrian felt himself flush at the praise. He wasn't really a humble man, his handsome appearance was a source of pride for him. he knew other men who where more vain then he was. but this complement...made him shy somehow.

The elf rode in silence for a long moment. "I never knew my father. He died before I was born, some raiders jumped on his border-patrol party. My mother held up the household for as long as she could, but my father's debts where great and eh where reduced to living at my grandparent's home. That's where I was raised, My mother....was like all women of that land, beautiful, stubborn and utterly fearless. It's wounder how we men manage to marry such women," He sighed. " I suppose all of our campaigns our great deeds are enough to impress the even most shrewdest of women." here, he laughed. "Some men, can't even find the patience of courting a woman and lay with other men instead....ern, not that it's wrong or anything..." he coughed.

Ialu froze, pulling Azizi to a halt (a name which the camel wasn't too fond of, but was receiving better reviews than the names picked out before it). He stared long and hard at Eladrian, forgetting the earlier conversation, "Not that there's anything wrong with it?..." He felt like his head was spinning and would tumble off of his shoulders any second like a wayward top, "In Kemet and all the lands surrounding it, many men are stoned to death for lying with one another. It is considered, at best, a disgusted habit to be stamped out... I-..." He blushed, "I have had a few masters, most of whom had wives, but used me in their beds because they were ashamed of how they felt for other men. They spend their entire lives fighting off this great sin... How-... Certainly in your land, it isn't seen as good...?" He was confused. Was there a land where two men could be together without having to hide. The thought was too much for Ialu to even conceptualize, so he couldn't believe such a place could even exist.
