Mysterious Ruins

Lyrren stepped over looking down at the plaque, his brow furrowed.
"It tells the story of Lady Luna. Along time ago, Drow religious dogma and ceremonies were conducted by a holy priestess. Our first in this new land was Luna. She was said to be the most beautiful thing to ever step foot on mortal soil. The Empresses of the Drow at the time invited the ambassadors and their guard over from a human kingdom. It was never proved what kingdom it was, but it is believed it was Ankaar. As the ambassadors and the Empresses were having their meeting, the guards were permitted to explore the kingdom. One guard, an elf from Takengawa, stumbled upon the priestess bathing. He was so taken by her beauty that he forced himself upon her and ravished her. Deflowering her and thus de-throaning her from her royal position. The man was executed, and the Drow Kingdom locked their gates from outsiders for a long time. This is said to be the reason that the Drow hate all other races.
The story goes on to say, that the priestess became pregnant with the man's child. The pregnancy was hard and painful. Ten months later she died after giving birth to the first of the Cursed Drow. Her pain and sorrow from the rape is said to haunt all other drow/elf half breeds, and that is why we are known as 'Cursed.'"  

[Mezalyth]

Nimda had replayed the scenes over in his head as Lyrren spoke of the deed. His heart sank when he had learned of the source of Lyrren's misery. Still, a question burned in his mind.

"And this man...that child...who were they?"

He shrugged
"No one knows. The man is assumed to just be another elf, no one of importance. As for the child, well he just disappears out of history. No one knows his name or what happened to him. I think he's alive somewhere. Both him and the priestess have been dietized in Drow culture.  

[Mezalyth]

"And the priestess is no longer living?"

He shook his head.
"She died during child birth."  

[Mezalyth]

((Wow I'm an idiot. Sounded familiar and I reread it to find it said it there... gonk Sorry))

Nimda let out a slow breath, looking up from the plaque to see the stone face.

Lyrren sighed
"The statue is supposed to show her beckoning new comers. She was a strong believer in the Drow kingdom's ties with other races and minimizing war."  

[Mezalyth]

"Hmph. One side locks the gates and the other beckons newcomers. Seems like everyone outside is relatively accepting of our presence here..."

"Well that was a long time ago. The city has opened up to other races and beings now. Other than elves."  

[Mezalyth]

Nimda nodded. "This is a palace...who leads the Drowe?"  

[xXYaoi is LoveXx]

He turned his back to the statue and beckoned for the group to follow.
"The Drow has long been a monarchical and matriarchal culture. We are run by two Empresses, usually sisters."  

[Mezalyth]

"Is it a fair rule?"  

[xXYaoi is LoveXx]

He shrugged
"We haven't had any problems with it yet."  

[Mezalyth]

"It's strange...in all my travels I've never actually come across a matriarchal society. Seems like the better option of the two."  

[xXYaoi is LoveXx]

He shrugged
"The Empresses are fair in most of their decisions. And effort is made to keep the public culture from seeing men as subservient to women. Balance instead of power is what is important in Drow society."
