I don't know if I can make it Roany, sorry. I'm considering working overtime at work just to try and get some extra money. Until another Barista job that pays better comes along.. my future event schedule looks pretty bleak.


Just a heads up in general: I'm feel pretty ferocious right now, and next week will be worse... I suggest everyone shoves me a cave with something delicious looking to chew on/kill/abuse for my amusement. Oh, and keep edible looking limbs, children and durniture away from me.

So. No one is online... again... and I made the FOOLHARDY mistake of looking into Commerce for something to do.

BIG mistake. I ALWAYS forget how far Gaia has fallen. That said, my rant tonight is now going to be MUCH more specialised. About ONE element of Gaia I DESPISE.
It will require a history lesson. Here we go.


Travel back in time about 8 - 10 years. It is the glorious age of the early internet teen phenomenon. And of the free and unpoliced thing of doom: the chat room.
From mIRC to MSN to Yahoo and many others, EVERY site with ANY monetary clout behind them has server upon server dedicated to chat rooms, and it is to these the droves and droves of younger users flock, exploring and learning in ways the older generation havent considered yet. Someone out there started the open source phenomenon, but we are YEARS away from Bash, Goatse, 4chan and more. Even Gaia itself is a pipe dream. I myself am, shock horror!, a teenager. Somewhere in the middle of puberty and trying to understand just WHAT the deal is with breasts.
Its a scary and unusual time, and I, like many before me, discovered chat rooms and a whoel new realm of teenage embaressment I could share with people worlds away thanks to the joys of chat.

I was a bit of an MSN frequent when I truly got into the idea of RP in the live realm. This is where I met people I know only by pseudonyms - Scorpio, Lady Saravek, SJ, Dodger, Soulstealer, C Crows and the indomitable mother to us all, Moon.
Cheesy, aint it? I was of course appearing under my most well known pseudonym. Im both proud and scared to say I am still in contact with some of these people.


Now, you may be wondering where Im going with all this. I shall tell you. The chat rooms were simple. The idea of 'actions' didnt appear for, get this... a YEAR. Because no one realised that online RP was more than just a load of DnD freaks who'd discovered a computer and turned their nerdery to that. EVERYONE uses actions, all the time. IM's these days have turned 'normal' people into what would have been considered a computer geek when I was in school.
So. No actions, no action command, at least not where I hung out (there were some places that got the gist of things much faster. Naturally, Microsoft was NOT one of them). So, in comes the wonderfull *.
* was, and really still IS, the universal symbol of DOING something. Of action. It was the verb of chat rooms. It was only natural it followed geeks to Gaia when it was first discovered, especially as there is no action button and its forum based.



SO WHY THE FALMING ******** IS EVERYONE AND THEIR GOAT AGAINST IT NOW?! Is it ME who is the elitist for refusing to RP anywhere that bans the use of *'s in posts? Or THEM for expecting me to drop a post style I have used for almost a DECADE?!
I can understand if the quality of your post is PISS poor, but if its a good, literate WoT, WHY is it an issue for what are, really, Gaia n00bs!
Ive been on this site YEARS longer than most of them, yet I am the one who gets looked down on, when I sue words most of them dont get, and cant be bothered to look up in a dictionary.

THIS.IS.A.TRAVESTY.

And I want to do something about it. (Ok, my determination may not last but hey. Im passionate right now). How does everyone feel about going back to our roots? Opening a bar, a CASUAL bar, back to what our characters STARTED as, up to and including hitting each other with tables and destroying the place bi-nightly and LOUDLY and PROUDLY using whjatever post styles we damn well want.

Now, it wont work unless we are all willing to RP regularly there and frequently. Is it worth it? Am I trying to recapture an impossible dream? Am I mad? Your views please.

Akiko am going to stab guests and boss. And maybe herself.

We had a 2hr slow close today (open until 7 instead of 5), with 2 members of staff, and my boss snarking at me for not staying until 8 when she had other staff members take over at 6.45. I was supposed to finish at 6.

:/ and I frakked my shoulder up some more, and pissed off the tendons in my left hand.
Seriously, just stick me in an industrial size blender already. I've had enough.
