Hmm. That wouldn't have been that bad really. A little of everything isn't a bad policy when building a fleet.
So you have 2 Marza Dreadnaughts, 2 Sova Carriers, a Kol Battleship (or a Dunov support cap ship), and not sure what else you're referring to. The 14 kodiacs is a strong set of ships, and 10 carriers is also a good number to have backing a ship-heavy fleet.
You'd have lost against Dash's fleet but I probably wouldn't have been able to take it at the middle of all that. I would have at the end though, but that's because I amassed so much s**t specifically for destroying cap ships and kodiacs.

Ah that's the ones, I had a Kol and a Dunov in that fleet. And the LRM frigates are like artillery ships or something. Long range missle/lasers I think. They're like the basic TEC, think it was TEC I wound up as, frigate after the scouts. Good to know it wasn't a badly balanced fleet. It would have been larger if I wasn't playing with research so much and boxed in where I was. I tend to try and balance and/or go with overwhelming firepower. Hence all the cap ships.
And I have the same approach for the most part JB.

Nighthunter Ah that's the ones, I had a Kol and a Dunov in that fleet. And the LRM frigates are like artillery ships or something. LRMs are the long range missile frigates, super effective against light frigates (the basic ship type other than scouts) and pretty effective against most other things damage-wise. They have paper armor though, and fighter squadrons ******** them up (200% damage). I started with a Sova, then built an Akkan (at minute 9) to colonize planets, then built a Dunov (at minute 21) to use the AoE shield regen on my other caps, then built a Marza (at minute 37) for 'da big gun' and planet sieging. It went well. They steamrolled. All their squadron slots were full of fighters to counter any attempt at bomber spamming. When I finally built a fleet, it was mostly LRMs and flak frigates with Hoshiko repair cruisers and some siege frigates thrown in to hurt the planets or distract while I was mopping up defenders. It seemed to do very well, until Dash showed up with all of his heavy cruisers. At that point I needed carriers with bomber squadrons, but had none. I should have started on them earlier.

Yeah, the LRMs seemed kinda decent all around damage type which is why I built a bunch of them, though I did notice them drop fast if anything concentrated on them. But they seemed to fair well in the middle of my fleet with everything else going.
I didn't build any of the Hoshikos though. I should throw some of those in next time if I plan to actually do something. And yeah, seeing bombers were effective against heavy cruisers and cap ships was why I balanced my fighters/bombers.
Later JB. Have a good trip.

Strategies really tend to fluctuate depending on a lot of factors. Particularly a lot of the healing abilities on ships don't work properly when everything is focus-firing on one target. The Hoshiko repair is a heal over time that doesn't stack with itself, so if everything is focusing on one target, you'll only ever have one thing to heal and you only need a few of those ships to be able to cycle through their cooldowns.
Bombers are a lot of damage against some types of ships but not against others, they're practically immune to flak frigates though so a fleet of bombers can and will kill anything that doesn't have fighters to defend it. But a fleet of fighters will wipe any bombers out there, as well as LRMs, and be able to do okay damage to most other targets. Except flak frigates, which eat them.
The game is a whole lot of paper rock scissors.

Amassing a bunch of bombers is normally what I do in terms of support. LRM's are my long range, though I tend to keep those in small groups rather than have a large cluster of them. I keep a few Garda's on hand as my Bomber support as well, to even out the playing field and be a douchebag to most incoming ships.
The rest are Kodiaks though. XD And the NUKE CANNON later on.

I was this close to writing a large gripe post about that Ninja Assassin movie that I just saw, but I decided against it since I was rambling.
