go look into a white bottomed swimming pool on a sunny day, the white ripples you see under there are the waters shadow (or at least that is what it is known as by science in calculation and etc.) the reason it appears in ripples is because water blocks the sun in a broken line, a large majority of it is let through, but the rest appears as white ripples on the bottom of the water.

hmm Whatever I don't really care anymore..we all know what should have happen..Intangible..even if you grabbed the shadow..the attack would have pass threw...and Joker would have still went underground..its not like your shadow would have made joker tangible anyways...whatever..

Eh either way no one would of died yet, joker could of gone into the ground yes, but that was the only way out
also I don't know why yall are comparing the shadows to physical beings... Ill admit shadow neckbind probably wasn't the best thing to use might not of worked since I don't know if you can choke a ghost, but the shadow imitation jutsu would still work since it doesn't connect to the person just their shadow.

But how would the shadow be casted if he went intagible? Theres no shadow to cast.

for the sake of those who havent seen it im going to put this in white but read if you want an explanation
SPOILER/EXPLANATION: About halfway through the movie, shikamaru rips a guy out of the sky using shadow imitation jutsu. The guy is flying about a hundred feet in the air ABOVE shikamaru and isn't touching his own shadow, just casting it down. The shadow touches shikamaru's, and he tears the guy out of the sky. its kickass as hell and applies here as well. <<
Alastor: He was intangible but could still be seen, basically he could float through most objects. Since he could still be seen he still blocked the sun thus created a shadow.

Why don't we? Cause no one likes to hand to hand combat anymore except a few of us, Myself [[Momiji- brawler type, Koujin - kenjutsu]], Hedoro [tamao, kenjutsu] and a few others, but most don't bother getting in close enough to grapple with some one cause they'll just noob it up and hit you with a jutsu that would logically backlash and hurt them just as much as it would you.
With the movie. I'm pretty sure he's still touching his shadow, it's just massive, his shadow extends from the surface of his body all the way down to the outline on the ground, the shadow neck bind doesn't pull him out of the sky, it just scares the s**t out of him disrupting the chakra flow that lets him stay in the air, it's like the Nara's thing with concentration. Unless your using shadow sewing a shadow can't pull or move you unless the user is moving as well, even if you did an imitation on the flying guy he probably could maintain flight, but he'd just be stuck stationary so long as he could focus his chakra on keeping the flying thing working.
Oh and I like how they stole the Reibi from me, which as we all know was my idea! >____> stupid anime stealing all my ideas.
