I feel like measuring people's "super modes" is a little excessive, but maybe that's just me.

And Chen must have been retconned at some point. What, between the "styles" thing he's been doing IC and the fact that the Chen that was in Unity certainly wouldn't have had a "magic" score of 0.

You must not have seen him fight in HoH. That's old news.

He's not without powers, but he's no longer a psychic. It was part of the "overdoing it" thing that was wrong with his character in the first place. I personally like the "stance" stuff he does now since it's very thematic.

I think the whole thing about an energy projection score is simply your ability to...well...do just that. Project energy. I'd have to re-read it, but I don't think it means "no powers". Just that he can't hit people from far away.

Unless he uses a gun. In fact, didn't Fen list that as part of Armored Gamma's "energy projection"? :/ Then again, that was a joke.

I like how some people actually believe they RP as anything but 'super.'

It was kind of a joke, but on the other hand, if you carry around a thermite cannon automatic weapons with large piercing shells... you probably might as well have a "fiery death" and a "bullety death" spell.

And unfortunately, I read everyone's first round in HoH but not the second rounds or all of the golem fights, so if Chen had any fights beyond the one with Adrinai I missed them.

I just kind of assumed that he was not using his powers against Adrinai out of sportsmanship.

...and Tenkai coming off at a higher number than Ryugi seems off to me.

I was already tempted to put a number into Kael's energy projection and claim that he had an aura of badassery or make some allusion to sexual prowess. He actually is magically enhanced at any given time, but people tell me he plays like a normal guy, and I didn't think "ghosts have an easier time ******** with his head" or the like was the kind of thing I should be bouncing that up for.

Of course it's a joke.

You would really be serious about "lead" being an energy with all your talk of SCIENCE?

For shame.

Seconded.

Technically he doesn't use lead projectiles most of the time.

But 'long distance' and 'AoE' abilities shouldn't be a zero. He's got no magical woo-woo powers but he can still simulate various s**t-wrecking powers at long distances and over great areas at the same time.

Yeah, I know.

In fact, I think the problem is the "energy projection" category.

All it does is measure the type of energies and the various uses of said energy. It says nothing about how powerful said energy is.

Tenkai may be able to use projectile energy attacks with his sword and other things, but I typically tone them down to fit into Levi along some sort of KOF-style thing. He's not exactly a DBZ character when it comes to using energy.

Just to add, I think the energy projection area should be limited to the level of firepower your magic/energy/technology typically holds.

Although some of Tenkai's attacks can have a larger cone/area of effect than most things, I typically leave that as being his more powerful abilities that need to be focused rather than things he can toss at will.

Also, I liked the old level of durability measuring. The "resists one type" thing can mean a lot of stuff, whereas defining it by regeneration or how much you can withstand entirely makes more sense. I ended up giving Tenkai a half-point past tough for that, and I don't even know if I should even say tough. I mean, in Tenkai's fight with Jello he couldn't move his right arm towards the end, though I wanted to sell those injuries so that nothing looked fail.

If "tough" means "can take a punch to the face and not move an inch", then Tenkai wouldn't fall under that. He's more of a "doesn't have a glass jaw" than "iron jaw".

And I think strength is where I screwed up. I marked him as "abhuman", but that's supposed to be the extent of his strength. In fact, his strength should be 3 like it is in his second profile, because the 5 simply counts for focused strikes, which would probably fall under energy projection.

I've seen Tenkai do some big stuff for about an instant, but everything Ryugi does seems consistently on a larger scale. And yeah, the magic level does kind of go on a way that can get wonky, much like a couple of them do.

But like I said, I used the tier level at least as much as the descriptions for my decisions. Nikolai certainly didn't deserve the magic score I gave him, but since he can eat up power too, it seemed appropriate to boost it one notch.

Then again, I've also been using this to measure the character as a competitive fighter or normally. Because Nikolai in a plot moment can be a veritable monster- far beyond what he's statted at. Even Kael can up the ante in a dramatic tension sort of way when a lot is on the line.

And Rivven... will just be a funny thing to do.

Since his magic will be his highest stat, and how high I put that depends entirely upon how much natural water supply there is, how much it's a natural body or man made, how complex and time consuming of incantations or rituals he's able to use, or if he has to do it on the fly.

Because Rivven, at sea, with enough protection that he can focus solely on casting is wtf broken magically. I'd have to stat that as a 6 in an instant, though he probably falls more around a 5 or 4 for terms of this thing. I mean, Damnatus is probably an easy 6 too if you give him a week or more time of preparation and resources.

Edit: Also that the magic stuff has been tricky to stat in terms of utility. Hard to talk about it as anything beyond blasting magic without getting excessively complex. Especially when one person might use multiple elements all to do same level blasting spells and that would be much the same as having just one, to me at least. But someone who can use D&D wizard style utility on the fly or can heal/buff in addition to that certainly merits an increase for it.

Whole thing is very subjective and is more of a "make a guesstimate" than accurately by the stat descriptions.

Any scale is going to be too obtuse. Can't be accurate with seven numbers for what takes paragraphs to describe.

lol, don't think we can be "accurate" unless we make a full D&D size rulebook of "buy powers and stats until you have your character, use this chart to record the costs and stacking".

Which would be a HILARIOUS next reincarnation of this.

...and the more I think of "plot powered" vs "competitively powered" I find the need for separation hilarious. Because I've never seen Sun magic blast a continent in half in a fight, but clearly he was capable of doing it once for huge plot purposes.

I just tweaked Tenkai's normal state a bit, and it's now at 24.5. It's lower now, but still a half point higher than Ryugi...which still kindof makes me think. ._.

But honestly, I don't care about that. Setting Ryugi as a bar of "overpoweredness" would be singling him out, and that's just wrong. In fact, the whole idea of using tiers is kinda wrong in and of itself. It might give people the wrong idea.

On one hand, people who end up scoring their characters high would end up look overpowered, even when their portrayal of the character isn't overpowered at all.

On the other hand, some people who end up scoring lower might end up thinking their characters to be weaker than the others, even though people with no-power characters are just as capable of beating people who do. It doesn't take into account plot elements and other things that people adapt things to.

It's missing that...you know...nuance.

It's like how Ichigo's full hollow form is supposed to be ******** ridiculous, but was originally undermined because of the low intelligence score.

In fact, Tenkai's "boss" mode originally had a lower score, since I thought it'd fit better if "no mind" ranked as 0 intellect...but that just didn't make sense.

I still proudly hold the titles for most 1's.

Also, zombies.
