If we took out all the hot air, you'd have something like HoH : Underground.
Something that breaks off from the established, cuts out the middleman, and gets down to people breaking heads.

I'm tired and lazy, so I'm going to just copy and paste something I wrote earlier. Plus or minus some miscellaneous comments.
It seems like over the years it's [HoH] become really... bloated. Everyone expects the old rules to apply. Jokes about Glacier winning, the godawful "WALL" jokes, Kraun spending half his posts just writing >:{, you can't change that because you're changing a dynasty that isn't a dynasty.
The whole damn thing is a p***s-waving contest, and people come to see the contest, not the actual people who are having FUN WITH IT.
Since when was fun DIFFICULT, dammit?!
Personally I don't even think it should be called HoH Underground. HoH gives it the stigma of association.

Sunstrike Damn, I forgot that Ed and Ebag, both having E's in their names, were integral to the game, I'll have to send it all back to the developers now, what with them being the only ones with important stuff to do during HoH in the whole world. Damn straight. >=| It goes without saying, I'm all up for our annual tournament, whether it follows all of HoH's rules or not. I still think the first two years were the best, but that's just me. It just hasn't been quite as awesome since Team Ryugin disbanded all you newfags one-upped me. =D I don't even know anything about half of the characters running around anymore, lol.

I think Rage puts up a very valid point here, though.
That's really the fate of many RP tournaments in the end. Too many people sign up for chances at recognition they don't even need rather than enjoying it as a roleplay event with storyline. They go there, play till they lose, and then they bolt as if it never happened. But others just join to enjoy the roleplay and have fun with it regardless of how far they get.
Though it does bring up other thoughts. You could basically remove all semblance of plot development and make the tournament revolve solely around the fights, but then you'd just end up with another excuse for people to fight eachother in a flawed method of combat for no real reason. It becomes another p***s-waving contest just as Rage said.
On the other hand, if you take that part out and only focus on the story, then might as well just make it a normal roleplay event than call it a tournament.
I guess it really depends on what people want. And if people want both, then it'd do best to accommodate. It'd just be a matter of figuring out where it all picks up from.
Only question is finding out who wants to do it. @.@ Though I'm sure Laz has been thinking about it with the talk of grooves and such. I personally like the idea. :3

Sunstrike so, I'm gonna regret this. I KNOW I'm gonna regret this. I've been thinking about HoH guys. And I'm thinking that while a grand epic scale one might not be possible, it might be to do like an HoH:Junior in honour of one of the founders havin his own lil Jr. You can shoot this all down in flames, but most people seem to want to do this s**t. Like I say, if it was smaller teams, smaller rota, and a smaller time slot, which is A LOT of restriction for something, then I'll just drop my hat into the ring. Discuss? I've thought about HoH for the past couple of months, but school and assorted RL has sort of killed my ability to really do anything online. Personally, I'd like to see HoH on the whole scale that it's been at - sixteen teams of 3-4 people, but with a step back to the single-elimination so that the amount of rounds are cut down, and to try and get the judging back to a single-week basis, or less if possible. I enjoy the idea of a consistent, annual event, and that's why I've always liked HoH, and why I think people get so excited for it. Gold aside, potential for bragging or whatever else aside, I think the idea of there always being a standard, or line in the sand, or annual event that people can say for certain is going to be there is something that they like. I think Rage is correct though. Something about HoH seems to have become a bit bloated, as if there's a lot of extra weight attached to the whole event, either by people outside of it, or inside it as participants or staff. I don't think that means that Heaven or Hell needs to be put into a coffin and buried, or ripped out - it just needs to be trimmed and made back into a tournament that is A) fun and B) able to be run with something that amounts to vaguely consistent efficiency. As I've said a dozen times now or so, I'm up for staffing, and for trying to do whatever is needed to try and fix potential problems and get the tournament running again, and I've seen other people say similar things. It just needs to start happening, and soon, because otherwise there ain't gonna be any time for a tournament if it keeps getting put off. EDIT:: Also, srsly afk till later when I'm at my dad's, and then AFK moar until Saturday when I get home from Houston. If there's any attempts to discuss or work this s**t out in a guild or vent or whatever, try to do it when I'm around, or drop me a note or something so I can try and get in on it somehow.

i'd edit my post but i don't believe in that, you don't get GOLD for it. there's also the "someone types something to make your edited statement look foolish, responding to something backwards" thing.
we do have people interested in playing. and running it. if you've failed at running it, don't expect me to ask you for your help.
this year will, as much as i can make it, be stripped to what works, and damn the rest. glacier, blazestar, WALL, and diamondkatana jokes are your problem. making this thing START strong with a good staff, RUN with as little problems, and END with our first respectable finish is mine. there is no need to make a new system, or change the name. only to surgically remove those rotted elements and leave standing before us a thing worthy of a continuance, much less a second glance.
hoh will end when its time has come. i don't believe that time is now. i firmly believe the tournament, in its purest, best form, is better than any crimson snow, gtb, cell game, or wimbledon 2dmaxxx. i've already talked to people... i try not to waste my time with things that have no hope whatsoever. i wouldn't be pressing if i didn't really think there was something there.
but as y'all know, it's up to you. i don't need you in my ear dragging me down, sucking all my mojo. if i hear too much whining, i'll just hibernate for the rest of the winter.

I know I'm not around much, but HoH is always a good thing. And I do want to (finally) enter a character in it one year. xd
But yeah. I don't really know anything that I could do, but I can help around with ... stuff. If needed. xd

I personally wanna see at least one more HoH. Last year was a bit of a mess, but it had a lot of fun and great points to it and that's OK because it was a rough time for a lot of people, stress levels were higher than usual and people had a lot going on in their personal lives.
I feel really guilty over some of my own behavior last year and really agree that the "Fun" aspect of the tournament is often forgotten in the desire for E-Fame and what-not.
