Play in soul form. You dont lose world tendency for dying, but you have less health.

That's retarded. Dying shouldn't effect that. Not when the other ways to shift towards black is invading other player's games and stabbing them to death or assassinating NPCs.
One of these things is not like the other. Especially when dying is such a major part of the game that they probably wanted to assign it to a button on the controller.

Killing the merchants and assassinating people in the nexus lowers character tendency, not world tendency.

Considering the original version of the game gave you black tendency when you died in Soul form, the way it is now is kind of an upgrade.

World tendency, since those affect the different zones.
Character tendency is for like, pvp or something I think.

Pure black or white will get you access to most of the areas. Who's there and what items you can get might change though.

Is killing the boss the only way to change it to white? Because I've killed most of the bosses and still can't get anywhere.

There's a sword next to the dragon god that I can't get to. A message said I needed white tendency. There's a few others on various levels that I'd like to go.
