Technically there was an NPC there too, who also had a sword.
So Fen and I sworded a sword boss to death with the aid of another sword, who also sworded the sword boss.
With swords.

How do you tell what your tendency is? My status screen doesn't show anything.

I think there are two ways to tell. You either look at the icon in the upper right when you're in an area, or look at the Tendancy screen. Not that either of those really tell you how close you are, but the more light that's coming off the stone slab, the closer to white you are. I'm guessing black looks more like the broken one.
I know for sure I got Pure White on area 4 before, but I honestly can't tell you how to know for sure, because a lot of mine look like pure white but they're not.

It only counts for each area? And you can only improve it by not dying?

The eyes in the upper right corner of the screen glow so brightly that the verticle pupil is almost blocked out in pure white. Pure black is the opposite, where it gets really really dark.

Have you also been dying a lot in body form? 'Cause if you die in body form, world tendency lowers.
