Marcus nodded. "Well, it's not brimming with czars, and the weather's quite mild in the spring and summer. But you've got the general idea, yes." Then, it dawned on him. "Ohh. You've got that...that homesickness problem, don't you?"

Terryn nodded embarassedly, as if she were a young girl who was ashamed of accidentally pushing down a friend. "I've never even been to Russia, and I don't think I can go that far away. Not yet at least."

"Well...you don't need to have been there before," began Marcus, before falling silent. It hadn't been terribly easy convincing Terryn to come here, and they were only a day away. "Alright. You'll be leaving for home, then, I suppose," he sighed. "Naturally, you're welcome to stay here as long as you would like," he added, although he had a sneaking suspicion that Terryn would pack her bags for home at first opportunity.

Terryn sighed, feeling rather torn at the moment. "When will you return?" She bit on her bottom lip, trying to weigh her options carefully.

Marcus swallowed, trying to decide whether or not to lie and say that his trip would be shorter. "A few months, at the least." He was only partially lying. Few was a relative term, after all. He figured it would take him about six months to rebuild and get everything squared away. "I'll try to visit you."

"No you will not." Terryn took a deep breath, surprised that she was actually doing this. "Because I am coming with you."

Marcus's heart leaped, and he willed himself not to get overly excited. "Really? Are you sure? It will be six months, at least. And...you may be uncomfortable there." He was trying to deter Terryn now. Six months away from home in Russia was an enormous step, and he would rather have Terryn happy than in the same country.

Terryn shrugged, assuming her normal cool status. "That makes no difference to me. I have to leave home eventually, and any excuse to avoid my dear stepmother is gladly welcome. Especially if it means we get to spend time together." She gave him a smile and kissed him for a few good seconds.

Marcus smiled. "Well, you seem so very resolute. It seems as though any effort I make to take you home will be wasted." He took Terryn into his arms and looked at her very seriously. "Thank you."

Terryn placed her hands on his shoulders and reached up to give him a gentle kiss. "You are very welcome." She looked up into his eyes, feeling much different than she had in a very long time. She felt lighter in a way, better.

Marcus rested his forehead on Terryn's, feeling remarkably relaxed for someone whose estate burned down. "You'll want to write some cryptic letter to your father telling him that we'll be longer than expected, I assume."

Terryn shrugged. "Perhaps. Or maybe we should just tell him the truth." She pulled her head back and looked up at him inquisitively. "Would that not be better? I tire of lies."

Marcus considered this. It couldn't do any harm. They weren't being conniving now. "Yes, it would be better. Will you be prepared to leave by noon?" he asked. "We could go to a tailor and ask for some more clothes, if you would like."

Terryn nodded. "I also brought a good amount of gold with me. I can buy anything I need when we get there too."

Marcus gave her an amused look. "There will be no need to spend gold. They make gifts out of everything I need. Write your letter, and pack your things." He began to schedule the day's events, biting his knuckle. "We'll eat a hearty mid-morning meal and then we should be off. I need to get things sorted out here. I told the Count I'd be seeing him later today, but that'll have to be delayed a few months. Thank goodness," he added.
