Her worry for him never seemed to come off right. It either came out as an attack or as pointing out a weakness to him, neither to which he ever responded well. Problem was she couldn't stop those concerns from being voiced. Even the prospect of breaking Sevilin's precious elven cheekbones wasn't a joyus prospect in light of what they were in. Though she did look back to him some as he took a change in tone and demeanor, his waving away of the sword with explaination and then walking away himself. She stood there then alone for the moment, left with the sword that always seemed to be between them. Malvolence was drawn close and held with both hands now. She knew it had been Malik and Malvolence long before it had ever been Malik and Piper...that damn sword was probably even older than her. A shake of her head at nothing in particular, perhaps just an action to the empty space she occupied alone. Something had to give, they couldn't keep doing this. And it wouldn't be the sword. After all, Malvolence was to Malik like her collar was to her and there was no disputing that at all. Though she snapped back when she noticed she was more or less cuddling that blade. With a sigh she took the blade upstiars herself to thier room, setting it in its stand on the bedside table, right wher Malik liked it to be.

"You can't expect it to be al good all the time." Of course Fianna was still in there, though what with thier breif fighting, seeing as it was easily heard, she knew they weren't happy elves. And she knew she had caught Piper off guard by the way the girl jumped.

"I don't. I just wish I could...let go, let things be, accept they are the way they are. I mean honestly...I'm jealous of an inanimate object." That did all sorts of things...even housed a being that could possess Malik if he let it.

"Jealous? Or is it that you just don't want to see him hurt?" Apparently this sword was a big issue between them. Which meant it was more than just a normal sword that Malik was fond of. Though she knew Piper wouldn't tell her, or Kieran for that matter, so that meant she'd have to ask Malik now didn't it? Besides, he could probably use someone to vent to, right?

Heading to her closet she pulled out her own little pet project and her notebook. Coming back out she gave her mother a look. "There is mp room down here to be a surface elf about it." That said she headed downstairs and then further more until she ended up in Broog's room. There she knew she could work and no have to worry about being bothered, or be in the orge's way really. She needed distraction...thus she needed to melt down some metal. Needed to work through the tears that wanted to come and also foster the sincere demanor in which she would present apology in to him as she always did after thier fights.

Young elves...always had to be defensive. She knew a thing or two about that. Kieran was considerably older than her really, and she had had the same ways with him. Found him too reckless...and in her opinion he still was playing with drow and all but she had learned to accept that and either work with it or around it, but not try to stand in his way or crunch his toes about it. A sigh and a walk downstairs to find Malik, coming to stand before him. "Mayhaps its best that I'm informed on this sword that no one else will tell me about...that is if you wish to tell me do." He could tell her to just go away and she would indeed if he wished it.

Kieran was returning from the stables, so he had missed the mini yelling match. But of course he could feel the distruption in Piper, though he knew better than to accost her on the matter. Fianna seemed a little worried but nothing more than that. So with his options presented to him, he decided to stay out of it for the time being and headed to the kitchen to grab a much promised pear to Nerian. Though seemed somone else other than cooking staff was using it...

And curious little Kieran couldn't resist but to saunter over and inspect the pot contents and what not. Hm, looked like someone was potion making. Yes he knew it well...wasn't good at it but then again that wasn't his thing. He was a scholar, not a healer.

Nym was not happy at all. Nope. He was busy scratching at the door to the room Sevilin was in, trying to shove himself under the small space between door and floor. Though even this space was too small for him to get through so he was reduced to scratching and worried chittering...and the sound of Sevilin in that room telling him not to worry. You stupid drow, you're not stuck in there. You can translocate, so get out already. I hate you being somewhere I can't get to you.

Her arms full of books she made her way back to the kitchen and saw Kieran. Afraid he might want to taste it she yelled, "Don't touch it Kieran!" She wasn't sure what would happen if he did taste it and she knew his tendency to get a little too curious about things. Good old Kieran, always willing to study. Pulling over one of the stools she settled herself at the counter, book propped open on her lap and watched him for a moment. "Pull up a stool Lord Silvercrest, we need to have a discussion." Her eye scanned the contents in the pot even while the spoon stirred it a little bit and she turned down the heat just a tad, then cut some more of the moss and dropped it in, restirring the contents.

Kieran chuckled, stepping back from the pot as Zahara more or less yelled at him about it. Not that he took offense, he was used to it. He heard a lot of sentences that contained some form of his name and then 'don't'. "Don't worry Zahara, inquisitve as I am, I know better about some things."

Giving her a little nod and indeed snatching a stool and plopping on it across from her. "Discussion of what sorts?" Discussing seemed to se a hot issue these days.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 20, 2006 8:08 am

She smiled sheepishly, "I just had to make sure. I wouldn't want you dropping dead at my feet...Fianna and Piper might get a little upset with me about that." Her finger moved down the page and she read for a moment before looking back up at him all traces of humor gone from her face. "You're the only one that I can think who would probably have the knowledge that I need as well as more experience with it since you are a surface elf yourself." That wasn't coming out right. Okay, start over. "What I mean is, Malik has given me a very important task that I'm attempting to fulfill concerning Piper. It has to do with surface elven fertility but I don't know much about that seeing as I'm not nor have I ever really had contact with them before." She shook her head. "I know why Malik assigned me this but honestly, this is a lot more work than I ever planned on doing for him. If it weren't for Piper wanting one so bad..."

A pat at his own bandaged arm. "I handle poisoning well." He chuckled lightly befor noting how serious she went on him, well it was indeed discussion time now wasn't it? And he nodded at her words. So that's what she was getting at...someone was trying to get pregnant...or at least foster better conditions and circumstances to eventually be that way. "You wouldn't do it if she didn't." A little shrug. "Well...surface elven fertility...as every drow knows..." He stopped right there assuming things. From his learning and talks with Roarke and what not, Labyrinth had not a surface for abotu five hundered or so years, and Zahara he knew was barely into her one hundreds. Yes let's back up.

He cleared his throat. "Surface elves, have a low fertility rate, mainly because we aren't overly violent with each other and our extended lifespans mean that the race doesn't have to have constant upkeep to have the numbers high. Makes sense why one rarely sees surface elven children, it's hard to get them. Most pregnancies are in fact...oopses. Unplanned. It's really all about catching a woman at just the right time, and it's almost impossible to tell that time. Though I'm sure there are some subtle indicators." Stopping for a moment and perhaps searchign his mind for those.

She listened closely, absorbing all the information he was giving her and nodded. "So drow's increased fertility is an adaptation based on the increase of the death rate and the need to continue to populate. Without the increase, drow would have died out long ago. That's very interesting indeed." She tapped her fingers idly on the book thinking. "Subtle indicators I can't work with. I need something else to induce or enhance fertility but everything that I can work with is all Underdark variety and Piper can only take so much of that. Is there a surface equivalent that you can tell me about Kieran? Or is there anyway to substitute what I would normally use for something more compatible with the digestion and such of a surface elf?"

"Right to the ear tips my dear drow." A little nod to her, she did have it right. Adaptations of the elven subraces. Was this weird that he was discussing his daughter's fertility with her friend?...not from a scholar's standpoint it wasn't. "Well the sea elves of my home plane have come up with something like a fertility potion. They have the whole lowe fertility and dangerous enviroment thing going, though since they are aquatic, they're not the same as us land based elves either." Ineed...thier own diets and tolerances differed almost as much as the drow.

"Well...I don't know much about underdark foliage and what not, but I'm sure I can tell you of a surface like equivalent if that's what you're looking for. We've really no need for fertility potions on the surface, so we haven't really paid much mind...but I'm sure somethings that are say...aphrodisiacs may double as fertility enhancers." Yeah they really weren't concerned with that since they didn't kill each other off too much. "Tell me specifics of what you want to use and I may be able to offer a little bit of knowledge on it all." New learning opportunity.

Malik looked up at Fianna, pondered on that a moment, and then sighed lightly, sitting up.

"Malvolence is the hierloom of my late father, obsessed with ever increasing his power. paranoia of losing control. It was forged, and enchanted, with teh blood of his most prized pet, Cymarron. A vah that had the unqiue trait of learning, and enhancing himself by consuming sentient beings."

Let that sink in a bit.

"My father's arrogance and pride caused his death at Cymarron's hands. who them spent his time hunting down the entire bloodlines of the thirteen harem women he had. I am the only survivor. After his attack, I was handed the blade. within it now are several hundred, if not more, souls and spirits. the primary being T'haen, an ancient vampire."

"By holding or touching Malvolence, I have access to all that those within knew, including power. I have near triple my normal agility, strength, and stamina. I become psionic, I learn a greater portion of necromantic power, and my magical powers increase. not long ago, Sevilin swore fealty and offered his blood, which means I now know how to rune like a master."

He leaned back a bit.

"But it has side effects. Namely the blade is addictive, like any powerful drug. and it..speaks, pokes, and prods to be fed. it tries to influence the wielder to shed blood, to be cruel, vicious and brutal, so it can feed. I feel under it's sway in my earlier decades of wielding it, a slave to it. since then I have mastered the blade. but I still am addicted. without it I feel drained, physically weak, though not as much as I used to."

A sigh.

"Piper hates it. she's jealous of the sentient blade that is as much a part of me by now as she is. Often our fights are about that blade, or can be traced back to it in some form or another."

Oh he was probably going to get berated or disowned or she was going to want this wedding halted he was sure.

She merely took in all that he was saying, standing before him and listening. See, it was good to be informed, which was why she should have been a long while ago. After all if Malik and the blade were so close, then she had a right to know about it. Though a raise of an eyebrow that said 'don't be stupid about that' at the rune comment, though she said nothing more than that to him on it. A little nod then and she crossed her arms lightly, one hand raising to tap a nail against her lips.

"Explains why she's worried about it. Addictions are quite the problem after all." Not that she was saying he was horrid because of the particular addiction, seeing as she recalled weening someone else off his own addiction. "And why she won't take it away from you." A little nod. "Though as I mentioned to her...I don't think it just jealousy. But she is that as well...who would you rely more on in battle. Your blade or Piper? Who first would you turn to for the strength and power you needed? Your blade, or Piper?" Basically pointing out why she would feel that way.

Though a look for him. "Though I suppose that 'there is no room down here to be a surface elf about it'," To quote her daughter on it. "She knows you need your blade...but doesn't want to see you hurt or anything because of it."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 20, 2006 6:11 pm

"I think she fears I will become too confident, over confident and get myself or her as well into trouble becuase of it. And what are you talking about, this 'there's no room to be a surface elf about it'? I just need to find a balance. a way to get both of them to work in a relative harmony. and as to your previous questions, I rely on both equally. in battle I rely on the blade for my fighting, but I rely on her bow just as heavily to cover me. My blade may be my power but Piper is my strength. and what do you think it is if not simple jealousy? I am curious."

"That's an understanble concern of hers...she doesn't want either of you getting hurt is all." Then a little shrug. "That's what she said on the matter, 'there's no room to be a surface elf about it'." A little consideration on is answers given back. "Truthfully? Not often does a man grab for the hand of the woman he loves before he grabs the hilt of his sword, and she's not naive enough to believe that." A little inclination of her head on his mention of balance. "Such balance...is indeed difficult to achieve."

Fianna dropped her hands and clasped them in front of herself with a little sigh. "Jealous yes...but perhaps also...outshined by it. Acutal competition." She wasn't oblivious to his pettings over the blade or anything of the like. "Think of it as...being married to your work in a sense. Who comes first and second...who's better. That sort of issue. Your sword can give you things she never could even begin to fathom, if I understand how this works correctly."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 20, 2006 7:09 pm

"There should be no question to her...she always comes first. There isn't anything in any plane or under any god's wrath I wouldn't do for her. That blade gives me power. that's all. cold hate, vengeful wrath, and power. It's doesn't warm my soul, if I still have one by now, it doesn't make me feel love, or passion. I don't take it to bed with me, I don't hold it through the night."

Running his hand through his hair, light rubing his temple with his fingers.

"T'haen is a parasite. the blade itself is a symbiotic parasite. it feeds me, and I feed it, adn it never ends it's hungers and mine are carefully cultivated. if it outshined her, then I wouldn't be with her. I'd still be traveling alone, with just the blade, and if I needed company I'd have slaves for that."

A look over at Fianna.

"Why does she not see that? The blade is a weapon, a tool. and addictive one, perhaps..to which I am a hopeless addict, but she's the one I'm with. she's the one I hold and she's the one I trust my life to."

"Think of it this way Malik...she didn't want to be needed back in Andal...she didn't want someone to depend on her, she didn't want anyone to look at her and expect anything of her. But now she does and she wants those things from you. You have to imagine...how hard that is for her, only to know that there is something else that wants the same from you." Fianna certinally had a way with words when she wanted them now didn't she?
PostPosted: Tue Jun 20, 2006 7:47 pm

"She has those from me. I even gave her the opportunity this very evening to shatter that blade and everything that was in it. if she finds it such a rival, so destestful why didn't she just shatter it. I'll never be rid of that blade. too many centuries. it's addiction and the flow between me and it make it about as much a part to me as Piper's collar to her. Damn these frustrations!"

Throwing his glass of wine into the fire with a little burst.

"It tears me that she gets so upset, I can't stand the pain I cause her thanks to that thing but it's not something I can give up. it too far ingrained into my life and how I live. without it...I just haven't the strength to protect her here. I can't counter Kimmuriel, or Jaraxle..or even Sevilin if he turned traitor. Help me."

leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees.

"I don't know how to get this balancing act to work, and I am not going to give her a life of this abusiveness. this love, then hate, then love again, like I beat her and then came back with flowers like those wretched humans."

"Which by conclusion you have just pointed out why she won't take your blade from you. Your blade, her collar...constants and comforts that both make you feel vulnerable." Yes she had been breifed on that whole incident about her collar. A blink at him. "You speak almost as if you wished she had shattered it."

A little jump as he acted out some, tossing his wine glass in the fire. Though she dare say it pleased her to know Malik acted so strongly when it came to the subject. A little shake of her head as she turned back to Malik, bringing a hand up to rest it on his shoulder.

"At least you know and realize that it won't be easy. I know...that you would do anything for her...your voice speaks that much alone as does your eyes." A soft smile. "You can't be so hard on yourself either...abuse is a harsh word indeed. All you need to do is find the middle ground...where your blade is there and where Piper doesn't have to feel it is harm to you." A little nod. "Start with what you know...a time when things weren't so bad and both were at your side."
