Now Malik got the 'oh God' connotation in that look. He had to ask about Fianna now didn't he? Couldn't leave well enough alone at all. Brushing his hair over his shoulder he took a moment to construct his answer so as not to...well get him put with the out crowd.

"We're both rune mages of master level. It's only natural that we are tense around each other...after all, we know what one another know...well mostly seeing as Underdark and Surface have thier variations and own runes to themselves in some cases. Not worried over a potiential advantage being lost, just know what I'm up against."

Two high level rune mages in a battle using said runes? Well that was just bad.

That got a chuckle.

"Surface vs Underdark. Shadowknight agasint Paladin. interesting. so the tenseness is fromt eh fact that you know what each can do. and would avoid the massively messy conflict if needed."

Then a small smile.

"Feel free to go back to what you were doing. the three of you. any plans made or confirmed and I will inform you of it."

Zahara watched Piper's mother leave the room with mixed emotions. It still amazed her at how much she liked her. She'd been prepared to hate her just because she was a mother and some of the things that Piper had said had about their relationship had led her to believe that Fianna was just like Zahara's own mother. But Fianna was completely different. She didn't look down her nose at her children and she didn't immediately raise a hand if someone said something she might not like. Fianna was not someone to fear, she was too gentle. Zahara didn't doubt that the elf could raise her voice and scold, mothers seemed to be born with that ability, but it would never be the way drow mothers scolded. But back to the business at hand. Picking up that book that she'd brought upstairs and tossed carelessly on the bedspread she began to thumb through it. "Piper Malik has asked me to do something for him but before I begin I want to ask you a serious question. If you need time to think about it before giving me an answer, I understand." Glancing up she met her friend's eyes with her own and made sure Piper understood how important this was. "Do you want a child with Malik?"
PostPosted: Wed Jun 14, 2006 6:57 pm

"Believe me...you don't want too rune mages literally raising hell and calling heaven to thier aids just to smite another. We can bring down planes, and commit genocides with the proper scribing...deadly in our own rights. Even her."

Said as he then turned his back on Malik, starting out of the room...after all he had full license to case this entire place now far as he was concerned. He intended to. "As you wish, Lord D'vinn."

And the atmosphere in the room had seemingly changed to a very serious tone. Triple colored eyes blinked in an understanding of that as violet ones held them for a moment's time. It was perplexing or perhpaps worrisome enough that Malik was asking something of Zahara. Though those eyes blinked once more in perhaps surprise. Though she didn't take but a moment to answer. "Yes I do. It's just...difficult." Sore subject still with her. Wait had Malik said something to Zahara before Piper had?

"I'm well aware of the differences in our fertility Piper. I'm also well aware of the fact that it's very unlikely you'll ever conceive on your own. But don't despair, that's where I come in." She grinned at Piper. "There are potions that you can take to help in that area and Malik has set me to the task of making one or finding one you can digest with little harm to yourself. The only thing I was concerned of, was it was Malik trying to continue on his line without mentioning anything to you. It would be just like him to pull something like that and it's not going to happen with me around to stop it. I refuse to put you through what you will likely go through without you knowing and your consent. If you want a child, badly enough Piper, I'll make sure you get one."
PostPosted: Wed Jun 14, 2006 7:25 pm

"Malik got to you before I did in other words. I swear that elf never procrastinates at all." Though she did have to control her look as Zahara voiced her own suspicion on Malik in regards to the whole issue of a child. Gods. No...you're not going to say anything about it Piper, calmly give her an answer, don't rant. "Malik would never use me like that." Though then that twinge of guilt as she had continued...yes it would be just like him to do something like that. His own pet project concerning the two other drow in thier company. Triple colored eyes stared at Zahara a moment bfore averting themselves. Could Piper say she would refuse to let the same thing happen to Zahara? "Right..." Oh yes, feeling that guilt.

"Yes." That conversation had been Malik moving in on her with the order he'd delivered. "You've got to be absolutely sure though." Zahara shook her head, "I don't know how any of this will react with you. We both know that you can't take a lot of the things that we have down here. You could have stomach aches, periods of vomiting...the chances that we won't find something anytime soon are extremely high. This is not let me go pick some ingredients, mix them together and feed you a potion, this is going to take time and testing. Are you absolutely positive that this is what you want? So positive that you're willing to put your very life in my hands and trust me with no holds barred, not questioning anything I say or anything I ask of you?" At this point she let the book rest in her lap and took Piper's hands, once again affecting that serious look before lightly turning Piper's chin to force her to look at her. It had to be said, all of it did. The truth of the matter was, any one of the ingredients used to enhance fertility could poison her at anytime. And once a baby was conceived continued use of the potions could cause harm or even fatal complications to the fetus. It was a risky business fiddling with natural genes..a very risky business.

Piper sighed as Zahara listed all the horrible things that could go wrong, but let her eyes come back to look at the drow holding her own hands in that comforting and reassuring gesture. A nod from her as she had brought her eyes back up to Zahara. "I know it could take forever, and believe me, I know all of what Underdark things can do to me...have indeed experienced it." After all, building up tolerances didn't meant she got off scott free from little doses. That whole process had been a necessary evil. "You don't have to worry about be worrying about that...if I get sick, I get sick. Every poison has a cure." Or at least she hoped. But she knew neither Malik or Zahara would push her into the waiting arms of death over this. "I'm positive."

Zahara searched her friend's face for every ounce of sincerity for a long time and even after she leaned back and released the surface elf's hands, she still looked skeptical but she sighed. "I'll need to know anytime something happens. If you have no appetite, you tell me about it. If you are drinking an unusual amount of fluid, you tell me about it. If you get dizzy, you sit down and then you tell me about it. Anything out of the ordinary, anything that happens, no matter how insignificant you think it is, I need to know. Once I start giving you things, I'll need to check you over every day without fuss from you. You'll need to begin eating more and getting a constant reverie schedule going. A routine is important when you're testing potions as it helps us pinpoint things that are not normal. And Piper, anytime you want to stop, let me know and it ends. Just like that." A small pause, "But while you're in my hands, what I say goes. My words are above even Malik's and it is your utmost priority to listen and follow everything I say to the letter no matter how strange or frivolous you might find them. Are you agreeable to these terms?"
PostPosted: Wed Jun 14, 2006 8:20 pm

"I have no doubt this is something you and Malik will agree whole heartedly on...and something that he would be on top of at every moment that he could...I wouldn't put hovering beyond him." Sure...all of that sounded unapplealing to her, but you had to deal with things if you really wanted something bad enough now didn't you? "I know...I'm just going to have to deal with all of that though won't I?"Love indeed was a funny thing that made you do even funnier things wasn't it? Damn her being a surface elf or she wouln't have this problem.

"Yes you will. I've outlined everything, the rules, the possible risks and you still want to do this." A shake of her head and finally accepting chuckle. "Malik and I agree on something? Alert the gods, I"m sure they'll want to know that the plane is not about to collapse beneath us all." She crossed her ankles idly beneath her skirt and adjusted the metal ring in her navel to give a little with her movements. That hurt sometimes when she sat a certain way. A light smirk and she began flipping through that book again. "Alright Piper, let's get you pregnant."
PostPosted: Wed Jun 14, 2006 8:36 pm

Guilt! And that was Malik's fault for her feeling guilty. He wanted everyone to blame him, she thought she was quite ready to...Piper didn't like feeling guilty about things. "Right." Yes begin the hell of trial and error...oh the things she did for that elf. But it would be worth it right? Of course it would because somethings were. Worried about being pregnant during her wedding? Hell no...still had to get her fertility rate up before she even got close to thinking about being pregnant. Would indeed take lots of time. Though she forced a smile. "You'd be surprised how you and Malik are alike when it comes to the concerns of me."

Zahara didn't like the expression that was scampering across Piper's face. It led her to believe she wasn't quite as ready as she thought she was. Guilt was interpreted as uncertainty but every time the emotion appeared, it left just as quickly. As uncertain as she may be she was still determined and all of the doom and gloom Zahara had just spouted had done nothing whatsoever to change the surface elf's mind. Therefore, she was stuck finding someway to get her pregnant. Joy. "Alright then, I'll do a bit of research and have a test potion for you sometime in the next few days depending on how much time it takes to find ingredients and things like that. I have to find out your exact limits so this could be a little testy at first. But we'll get through it and sooner than later, if all goes well, you'll be pregnant." She stood up and closed the book, tucking it under her arm, then walked to the door. But before she left she glanced back and said, "Remember Piper, anytime you change your mind, one word and we're done. No questions asked, you don't even have to tell Malik. I'll break the news if you wish but I'm not going to force you and you shouldn't force yourself." Last words of wisdom imparted, Zahara took her leave. She needed to find Kieran and talk to him about some things, mainly surface variants and what in his experience tended to be the least controversial with a surface elf stomach.

Piper nodded again. "I know..." Guilt was not a fun emotion at all. But she had a smile none the less...she supposed this was better news than she had been getting in a while, if not a little intimidating. Somehow she could forsee quite a bit of down time in bed from feeling horrible. Though knowing herself she wouldn't want to stay in bed under those circumstances. Her and Malik had worked on tolerances for twenty years and well now was time to see it pay off...and if she had to build up a tolerance to something new...so be it. Getting up, she put things away where they all belonged, pulled on her gloves just because she liked them and headed out the room and downstairs. "Malik!" Yes, lets call out through the house rather than look.

Kieran was lounging on his bed, Fianna sitting beside him. "Did you talk to her about Andal?"

"A bit...of feeble bridges and what not...told her about the others. There may not be many of them and they may be young, but they're just the same as her." More and more common occurance these days, bridge elves...though they seemed more than happy to have the traits thier dual blood allowed. "And you spoke to Malik on the issue?"

"Much more receptive. Seems almost eager...not a bad elf, even for a drow really. I think he'll do fine in Andal and at council...which we have to start preparing for, right?"

"You have to start. I've already started."

Sevilin had retired to the library...though had raised an eyebrow at the mess that was in there and no slaves seemed to dare touch. Hell he was temped himself to clean up...he couldn't stand mess. Absolutely drove him crazy.

But he tried his best to ignore it and started scanning book spines, particularly in the area of necromancy. Eventually he pulled one down and started thumbing through pages. Hm...Malik trying to combine necromancy and runics...well let's see what the necromancy side of that entails.

Zahara was muttering things to herself, trying to think and go over everything that she knew about potions and what not. That book was once again opened in her hands and she scanned things as she walked, wetting her finger to allow for easier turning of the pages. She wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to what was going on around her, since slaves got out of her way and no one else was about. She came into the room and walking over to her abandoned research, then tossed that book down on the table in the library and started rooting through the piles. "Dammit, where is that Lloth be damned piece of paper?!"
