I joined the Marine Corps and signed up for the Infantry to be a rifleman. I'm heading to Bootcamp June 25th 2012. But people still say its too close. I'm looking forward to it. Not to serve my country, but to go out and protect all the friends I have and make sure that I do something to keep them safe at home.
Ooh, you'll be in for a helluva ride. XD Just do as you're told so you don't get your platoon in trouble, and don't half-a** anything. But don't exactly give it your all either, unless you're in a life-threatening situation. If you attract attention by doing well, they'll expect it of you every day and will push you to try even harder.
Non-life threatening = 3/4-a** it.
Life threatening = Full-a** it.
Also, a few veteran friends of mine have some advice...
"Don't be an over-achiever, or an under-achiever. Staying under the radar is good. Just shut off your brain and do as you're told."
"And try not to get broken. Giving it your all is good, but giving it your all then getting broken and not even getting to finish sucks. And trust me, starting over is shite. Avoid injury if you can."
"Also, don't drink milk before gas day. That affects some people, and makes them throw up."
"Most importantly (and they really wanted to stress this one),
don't become an elitist a*****e. Marines often get it in their head that just because they're part of a more elite group, it means that everybody in every other branch is beneath them. We have no problems with the few
nice Marines we have met."
