Actually I found the gameplay quite enjoyable for KH. Moreso then most of the other RP games Playstation likes to spit out.
Taken away from it's fanbase, it's really worthy how they cross worlds over, as well as a lot of the internal design of the game.

the new one looks like fun, even if it is another inbetween story instead of a stand alone

It certainly had promise and I did enjoy the first one. Just, it could be way too disney at times, for lack of a better description, for my liking.

See, from the standpoint of an animator, it's really hard to diss Disney, though as an adult I've been brought up against a lot of harsh realities with the company, in doing a lot of research into the animation side of things, rather then the corporate pitfalls and society faux pas that cling to it, there comes a kind of admiration. If nothing else then from the animators that WORKED for the company.
I'm pretty certain that all the bigger animation corporations of today can all be hated for various unearthed or sheer stupid ideas and development work, I think Disney's just been the first to really fall under the brunt of popular opinion.

Oh I have nothing against their animation. They're definitely one of the top and can make really awesome animation. Nor do I really care that they're just money hungry and such. Any company really would be like that. And as you said, most big animation companies probably are. That's likely how they got where they are in the world.
When I say too disney, I mean like, too kiddy. Stuff like that. Not the company's morals or lack there of.

I liked the first Kingdom Hearts; it seemed to strike a decent balance between Disney and Final Fantasy. I didn't really have any complaints.
Then Kingdom Hearts II felt like the subtitle should have been "Hey Look, More Final Fantasy 7 Characters." Then having Yuna, Riku, and whatsherface from X-2 as little sprite fairy... things really just killed it for me.

KH2 makes me want to punch babies.

KH1: Enjoyed quite whole-hearted. It dragged a little bit at times but over-all I enjoyed it quite a large amount.
KH2: Between the severely increased gameplay and showing just how bad-a** Mickey is and the sprite fairies and the JOKE that was Atlantis... it ******** loved it. MUCH more then KH1. The ideas that they added and the shockingly new gameplay elements that have NEVER been done before made the game extremely worth that 30 minute bore-fest that is the opening sequence.
