It is just his nature. I am sure he wants for his siblings to learn something... but his method is sometimes peculiar. I believe he is the only one who can explain the logic behind his actions. All that I can say is Thanatos is used to taking unusually heavy burdens upon himself.... *Mastema also looked to the inscription on the lighter* Hmm.... as you said... he gives his effort for his siblings.

*Huffing lightly, Nana turns the lighter back over, a few seconds later the Zippo is put away. What a night it had been. A new program for Micha installed into Zio, finding out that Trilla now owned Zenogais when he wasn't actively on duty, talking about the lighter and finding Mastema agreeing with her decision. Yet, things seemed unbalanced and unfair. All of the children should be given equal rights, and attention but things seemed off. They each needed something to call their own, something to balance everything else out. Nana would have to think deeply on the subject*

That he does...

*The hand Mastema had been using to examine the lighter now moves to Nana's cheek and tucks some hair behind her ear* .... Is there anything else on your mind that you would like to discuss with me? I understand that some of what we've discussed is pressing on moral judgment, but you still seem rather.... crestfallen....

*Turning slightly to nuzzle at Mastema's neck again, Nana does just that then rests her head once again upon some part of Mastema's shoulder or upper chest. Crestfallen...? Well, that was exactly what she was now wasn't it? The word only served to remind her of that point all together. There was at least one last thing Nana wished to ask about for now, and it had nothing to do with the projects Mastema had started for her or the children, but rather it involved one of Mastema's generals*
--_--
I-- || ....I just want this family to be happy.
*Nana had given Thanatos an up-lifting speech of sorts at an easlier time, telling him that happiness may not be achieved overnight, but that it was possible. He seemed to weigh himself down, but hopefully Nana made him realize he didn't always have to be*

Have they really? .....I can only hope so. || But... to answer your question before hand... yes, I have at least one more thing, that has swelled in my mind lately. The night before, when I had come to you seeking the weapon obtained in Enid. Zenogais had said something, off-handed to me. Something about Slayer's last official mission for the citadel being over. He's... retiring?

*Mastema tilted his head back and looked towards the ceiling at the mention of Slayer* That was actually the topic of which I wished to speak of. *Mastema nodded* As it appears.... his part in Zio's expansion was his last mission as one of my subordinates. His... "retirement," as you call it, is not completely by choice. *Mastema chuckled once, but there was no humor in it* Perhaps after all this time, even I had forgetten that a vampire does grow old....

*Nana would sit and listen, nodding occassionally, she wanted to hear every last word Mastema wished to share. So Slayer was simply starting to feel the effects of age, it was easily understandable then. Some creatures simply did just that, age*
So... he is well aged, and it's finally catching up to him. I see, I can understand that.

*Mastema kept his gaze to the ceiling* well aged? I dare say that is a grave understatement, but not entirely false. Hmm... *Mastema went silent for a moment* It is more than age however. Even an immortal like Slayer reaches the end of his life sooner or later. Slayer, in comparison to the rest of his life's span, is growing quite near to his own death. Depending upon himself, he either has months or decades until he passes.... *So Slayer was actually dying, so to speak. Vampires were more or less undead, but Slayer was rather different. Mastema's statement of "depending on himself" did pose the question of depending on what, however*

*Nana raised her eyes to gaze upon Mastema as he spoke. Even an immortal reaches the end of their life... That in itself was something Nana dreaded, her own life as an immortal being being cut short at not being lived to the fullest. Slayer had months or decades, depending on himself? Then wouldn't he want to live? Wouldn't he want to go on for as long as he could, to see so many more moons, and sunsets. To see what pleasures life had left to offer him?*
.__.
He's.... dying?
*If it were decades that would be one thing, but if it were months... Gatia's possible future, the one that took place five years in the future, it would never take place, as Slayer could not teach the sealing spell to D, nor anyone else*

In one way or another, yes.... *He went silent for another moment* If he does not "fight" for the citadel or for anything else anymore, then he can still live for a great amount of time to come. However, if he continues to undergo extensive physical combat and use of his powers, his life will be severely shortened depending on the frequency at which he does. Thusly, he can either give up one developing more advanced techniques and skills, something that he has enjoyed doing for his lifetime, or he can continue to do so and live only for a short time more. The choice, in the end, is up to him...

*So, to fight and die faster or to rest and live more fully? Things one does that they find pleasurable, but that cut their life away bit by bit, was it really worth it if Slayer only died sooner because of it? Or would he give up on that which he seemed to love, so that he could live out his life for a long time coming? It was a hard choice and that was easily seen, but as Mastema had said in the end it was up to him. Nana's head finds its place by Mastema's neck again, and Nana's eyes shut for now. She had even more to think about now, but she was glad Mastema shared said information with her*

...I would like to get to know Slayer better, and not knowing just what or how he will choose, perhaps I shall start visiting more often with him. That is, if he doesn't mind.

*Mastema smirked softly, and he tilts his head back down slightly* I would be glad if you did know him a little better. Slayer and I have quite a history...... a history that goes back before the citadel..... before Thanatos.... nearly before anyone even inhabited this region. As I told you before, Sho spends a great deal of time in the north tower... and that is because he is often giving Slayer the pleasure of his company. Zenogais, as you also know, is spending some time in the north tower. I am certain he would be pleasantly surprised by your company...... and perhaps another time, the children can meet him as well. If I may say so myself.... he is the closest they may ever get to a grand father....

*Nana nods lightly, perhaps she would go and visit Slayer in a while. First however she needed to return Twilight's sword to him, and give the children their next lesson. It would be nice to talk to Slayer, more so than what they had originally. She hadn't known that vampires were like a type of demon until her discussion with Mastema in the mind, durring that one day, and that was fine. Being now a fallen, she was tossed into that lot aswell. Now the only time Nana would put demons and other fallen or hell creatures into her bad books would be if they had done something to wrong her, or a member of her new family and friends in and out of the citadel. Again Mastema brought up an iteresting poitn, that Slayer was the closest thing to a grandfather the children would ever know, but perhaps, just perhaps that in itself could help to stimulate his wish to live longer. If one has something to look forward too, then one wants to live to see that which they want. Nana wouldn't use her own children to sway Slayer's judment, he could do that on his own, but hopefully he'd find a second wind anda will to carry on for a time. Perhaps then, Nana would ask Slayer-- yes, but only if-- There were so many factors, but things would turn out how they were meant to turn out, in that she had faith. Nana's tone was soft and docile, understanding and hinted with sorrow*
--__-- Yes... I suppose you're right.

*Mastema's right arm was lightly wrapped around Nana's abdomen, while his left was placed on Nana's far shoulder* Try not to let this news sadden you. Slayer is still very vitalized and able under his own power. Just by looking you would never be able to tell his age nor see any reason he should be "retired." *He chuckled a little, to try and lighten Nana's mood* I am sure you two will be able to have a grand conversation.
