Watching as the young child emerged from the pod and the vine with the scorpion like tail ready to inject whatever was seeping from the tip into the child.
"Hang on Maki"
Zetsuei yelled as his sword appeared in his hand and used his flash steps technique to quikly move behind the vines and slash at it

Fira was a bit shocked as the vines went for Shinja then the watched as a child emerged from the pod. Quickly reaching for the spell she wasn’t sure if now it would do anything at all, yet waited as Zetsuei went after the pod. The phoenix wasn’t completely sure if that was a good idea either as she stopped and watched what the pod would do.

The child opened her eyes and sat up in the flower as she saw where the vines went and cried out with her hands stretched forward, "SHINJA! GET AWAY FROM THE VINES!"
Her memory intact she looked behind her and saw the vine with the serum and recognized Zetsuei.
"Ze ... Zetsuei?" she called out and tried to climb out of the flower. But as soon as she stepped off the pod vines that were absorbing Shinja's blood detached and wrapped around the child and pulled her back into the pod's flower. Once back in the flower the vines sank its tips into the child's skin and fed the dark blood to her directly. Her eyes flew across the room and noticed Katrea and Joan looking on. "Joan? Katrea? Help! It's me! It's me Maki! I'm being held prisoner by the darkness."

Before he could even take a breath, Shinja fell to his knees. "I...have to save...her..." Although he could feel his life slowly slipping away, Shinja grabbed the Kusanagi blade and hurled it with all his remaining strength towards the flower, aiming to sever it from the pod.
Aisis...
Shinja held onto the small amount of dark power he still had as he fell forward, catching his fall with the palms of his hands.

As the flower severed from the pod and fell to the floor the petals flew in every direction. The child stood on her feet and ran to Shinja.
"Don't leave me alone any more," she cried burying her face into his shoulder as she hugged him. Kissing him on his cheek. As she kissed his cheek her skin glowed a light blue that seemed to have an effect on the vines that are now detaching themselves from Shinja. The vines making up her childlike body also began to unravel as it was formed from vines.
Completely satisfied with the dark blood it has consumed the vines now reached for Maki's adult body laying unconscious where the others left her.
"You will not be able to revive her if we kill the original body," the vines hissed as it posed over her body waiting to strike. "You may hold the master prisoner inside you but you will not awaken the ancient heart within her chest. The dark master wants this ancient spirit, the dark master will have it and no one else."
"Please don't go away. What are you hiding from me? I thought we had no secrets from each other?" she whispered to Shinja until she heard what the vines have planned and ran towards her body. "No. I will not be a prisoner of the darkness any longer!"
The child scowled at the vines as she ran closer to her body but then the vines moved to block her.

Zetsuei saw the vines move towards Maki original body and ran for the vines slashing his sword at them as ran.
"I've been through so much here, im not about to give up"
He said as he stood infront of Maki's body trying to hold off the vines

The child's body was quickly unraveling, the pod in her chest revealing as it glowed a soft blue light. The child looked at Zetsuei, her features now becoming more plant like and unraveled like strings on the floor. The glowing pod laying in the center of the dying vines.
"Let me go! Shinja! Zetsuei! Help!" she called out. Her spirit causing the pod to rock back and forth. A vine sprouted forth and tried to reach for the pod but stopped. As if called upon the vines disappeared back into the original pod and tried to sink into the floor of the chapel.

It was now that Fira took out the spell from her robes and carefully yet quickly unrolled it. Still she saw no words on the page and desperately looked up at the scene as if she would get the paper to reveal the words to her. When didn’t the phoenix stared at the paper for a few moments getting an idea as she uttered a few words.
“When a sin has been commented…” Fira began making up the words as she went before pausing, surprised to see the very words she had spoken appear on the paper before her. She took a breath once, as more words flowed into her mind, knowing somehow that this ancient magic was influencing her words. So she once again continued on with the spell letting the magic grow in strength as she directed it onto Maki:
“When a sin has been commented and a life has been lost
With this spell of new life I recite I know it comes at a cost
The sands of time and winds of change shall reverse
And what is set back is a curse
Life and Death must be an equal balance…
Yet what comes with new life is old death
And a list must be filled
Death is not kind nor a Cad
It just never leaves with empty hands
Life and Death must be an equal balance
With this spell I recite
I know it comes at a price… ”
Suddenly the paper tore out of Fira’s hands, slicing a long cuts into her palms, taking some of the phoenix’s pure blood with it. The spell glowed while floating in mid air, as it contorted stretched and crimpled as if it was an animal in agony. Before the phoenix blood lit it and burned into ash.
Yet astonishing as the sight was Fira was still staring at her bleeding hands in shock before falling to her knees as the spell worked it’s magic on Maki.

The pod containing Maki's soul began glowing brighter and the pod began shaking more violently until it burst open and floated into the air towards the spell. As it reached the spell a form of a woman with similar features as Maki appeared surrounded by a soft blue light appeared and smiled down at the group. The ashes floated down towards Maki's body with the woman not far behind, before laying on the bench where Maki laid it turned and smiled at Shinja then laid down merging with Maki's body. With a big gasp Maki sat straight up, her body still surrounded by a soft blue light slowly fading. She looked around and saw Fira and Zetsuei. Blinking her eyes she noticed Katrea and Joan still standing there in disbelief behind the group. She looked around focusing her eyes until she saw Shinja on the floor looking as if he was in pain. She tried to stand up but fell to the floor having not walked in awhile due to the darkness. "Shinja," she said her voice a bit dried, coughing twice before she reached out to him. "Someone help him, he's in pain."

Fira was in an entirely different world as her wings fanned out and wrapped around her with her tail already spread out on the floor behind her. The phoenix never took her eyes off of the blood that dripped off her hands, almost as if she didn’t know what it was.
Finally after a few moments of silence from Fira, she then suddenly fell the rest of the way to the cold hard floor, her eyes lifeless. The spell had taken it’s price, the phoenix, for now the girl laid slain in the fetal position with her wings and tail wrapped tightly around her.

Torn in two Maki looked on in horror as she watched Fira fall lifeless to the ground and a tear formed in her eyes and fell. But on the other hand her heart was in pain seeing Shinja on the floor helpless. Was her rebirth too much of a burden on her friends?
"FIRA!!!!! SHINJA!!!! NOOOOOOO!" She screamed as tears flew from her eyes and fell to the floor her legs still too weak to move she was stuck. "What kind of price did you offer for my revival? I would have gladly laid my life down so you may live."
Maki sat there helplessly and cried.

Zetsuei walked over and knelt beside Maki
"Fire isnt gone Maki, she is a phoenix. She will be reborn just give it time and Shinja is just drained of the dark power which lies inside him."
Taking his coat off Zetsuei put it over Maki's shoulders as he walked over to Shinja and picked him up

Before anyone could say another word Fira’s feathers that touched the sun light on the floor, began to grow hot before suddenly the feathers ignited with wasps of fire around them. Soon the fire began to dance up Fira’s wings before catching her clothes and her entire body on fire. With in minutes the mere few flames irrupted into a roaring fire eating the body away to nothing, not even bones.
In a few moment the fire died down and all that was left was pile of ash where Fira’s once laid with no signs of her rebirth, for this time it would not happen.

Watching the fire erupt from Fira's body as he set Shinja down on the table, he was unsure what was happening to her due to his lack of knowledge of phoenix's but suspected the worst
"Maki, it was her choice to use the spell. no one made her use it"
