le misanthrope let's do whatever setting, and then we can individually decide if we want our characters to have had previous interaction This. We have an open playground, and we can bring whatever actions figures we want with us.

We should do something with droids. The Republic and droids... Battle droids.
And maybe two groups of Jedi? The Order hasn't always been unified.

if there are going to be two jedi groups can it be subtly done and not with a hammer?

Clarify? I'm actually struggling to think of a way for it to not be done with a hammer.

1) everyone is still working at the same base of operations b) they are not yelling at each other every time they see someone else 2) they are not running around trying to recruit people... overtly q) they do not engage in loud shouting matches about their beliefs 24/7 3) they are not running around controlling different political factions to gain the upper hand over the other jedi group... overtly
essentially what i'm saying is if there's two factions i'd like two factions in a we can b***h at each other but must keep a united front kind of way
bam. not a hammer, but a fine chisel

I was thinking along the same lines as you were except with two different bases of operations. Both groups would be Jedi, but their ideologies and/or practices would be differing enough that they wouldn't want to be formally associated with each other.

... that could not be any further from the line i was thinking if you added a third faction in there

I was thinking of it as more along the lines of Catholics and Protestants. Two competing ideologies, but they're both Christians. Not necessarily hostile to each other. They just don't all hold the same exact beliefs. Not really a third faction. A more Star Warsy example: The Jedi Order and the Altisian Jedi. One was a splinter group off of the other, and the orthodox Jedi Order frowned upon some of their practices. But the Altisian Jedi actually wound up working closely with the Jedi Council during the Clone Wars and even took in some Jedi that were fleeing and trying to hide during and shortly after Order 66 was executed. They didn't hate each other. They just didn't believe in the same things.

thirty years' war? french wars of religion? huguenot's rebellion? bloody mary?
i am thinking one body trying to present a unified front (see the essentially tag-on sentence of two posts previous) but with some infighting would be more interesting, because then you've get 1) to play people disagreeing with each other but still having to really try extra hard to play nice publicly because, well, WE'RE ALL JEDI AND WE LOVE EACH OTHER 2) to play with the idea of someone trying to force these factions apart an make them into catholics/protestants
it's more dynamic and interesting and doesn't have to necessarily presuppose any kind of split, therefore making it simpler and easier for newcomers not privy to plot planning to grasp

That sounds cool, too.
What's with all the wars you cited?
