Turning, he chuckled briefly and bitterly. "I never thought it would be, either. Back then, all I wanted was the sex. She wanted something else, that I could not offer." He sighed and pulled a hand down his face. "She's still bitter about it, I think, but she promised..." Crap. No, don't say anything more. Don't speak. You'll only get yourself into trouble if you do.

Ever sighed and flopped backward on her bed. Her skirt did not ride up, though, thankfully. That was the last thing she needed.
She simply stared up at the ceiling and said boredly, "What did she promise, Ares? And why would she get the impression that YOU of all people could give her something else other than sex? What, are you telling me you slept with her more than once, possibly even for a few years, and she naturally thought that you two would be something more?"
She laughed quite hard at this scenario. Ares sleeping with a woman more than once? Actually having a serious sexual relationship with someone? Now that was just too funny and insane to even consider as plausible.

He laughed hollowly. "Yeah, pretty much all of the above. That was exactly my mistake." He looked away. Did he really want to say the next words to come out of his mouth? Did he really expect Evermore to care? "I made her promise not to take her revenge on you." Even if Evermore did not know it, she was his longest pursuit in years, and it had only been two days now. It was already changing him.

Ever remained silent for a very, very long time. A half an hour could have gone by for all she knew. She was just silently lying there, trying to decide if today had really happened, or if it was all just one of those really weird dreams that you could have where you feel like you're awake, but too many bizarre things have happened for it to be reality.
Finally, she sighed and sat back up on the bed. When she spoke, her voice was tired. "You know... I think I'm going to go take a long bath. That's what a girl needs after this kind of day: a long hot bath with bubbles. And chocolate. I haven't eaten lunch today, so I'm going to have chocolate while I soak."
She went over to her tall dresser and started rifling through her top drawer, looking for the chocolate her mothers had given to her a couple days ago for her first school day as a sophomore.

Ares didn't move, didn't speak. He just watched her as she got ready, then sighed. He didn't know what to say, and he didn't really care. Walking over to her, he held out a plate that had materialized from seemingly nowhere, upon which sat all manner of chocolates, from chocolate-covered strawberries to brownies and just plain chocolate. It was all white chocolate, though--even, somehow, the brownies. "Here," he said, his voice somewhat gruff. He didn't look at her, his lips frowning and eyebrows drawn, even if he did not know why.
Underneath the chocolates, a note resided, waiting to be seen, waiting until later. I thought you would prefer white chocolate to dark chocolate.

Ever's eyes widened as Ares came over to her with a plate full of chocolate. And white chocolate, at that! How did he know that she loved white chocolate? Even her mothers didn't really know that.
With wide eyes, she carefully took the place and then looked up at Ares with confusion in her eyes. "Umm, thank you, Ares. That's really nice of you. I'll... I'll be back out in a little bit. You can watch a movie if you want. I won't be nearly that long, but... yeah."
She then walked over to her bathroom, took one last look in Ares' direction, at his troubled expression that she had never seen before on him, and then shut the door behind her. A moment later, the water was running in the tub.

Ares didn't answer, just continuing to stand there. What was he thinking?! Dammit! After he heard the water running, he walked over to the window and stared out it, sitting on the bench and leaning against the wall. He stared out into the air, just sitting there, trying to make sense of himself, of Evermore, of everything.

A few minutes later, a high-pitched, soft voice could be heard in the direction of one of the large windows.
"Hey! Hey you! Watch where you're putting that! You're gonna crush me!"

Ares was snapped out of his reverie by a rather annoying voice. Frowning intentionally, he sat up straight, looking for the voice. "...hello?" he asked quietly.

An indignant huff could be heard near Ares' hip. If he looked down in that area, he would see a tiny bright blue circle of light on the bench seat of the window. "Don't act like you can't see me, Mr. God of War! You're not blind! Look down here you numskull!"

Ares looked down at... a tiny talking ball of light. "Hey," he said, "I resent that. If you can't tell, now's not exactly a great time..." He raised an eyebrow. "What're you doing here, anyway?"

The ball of light skimmed left to right quickly in the small area beside Ares.
"Of course I know it's not a great time. The whole lake could hear that Fury's scream! And from what I've heard of you, it's probably all your fault! You create your own drama by your stupid, inconsiderate actions!"
The light quickly rose up and zoomed around Ares' head for a few brief moments before returning to its spot on the bench.
"I'm here to see what all the screaming was about and to kindly ask you Gods to get the hell out of Bai Ching and leave our lake alone! We know what you want and you'll never, EVER get it!"

Aphrodite sighed as Evermore stormed out. How childish. She shook her head. She couldn't force her to like her, and she supposed Evermore never would. "I hope," Aphrodite whispered, "that one day, you will listen to everything... and not just the things you want to hear!" Shaking her head again, she shifted back in to her mortal form, and called in the next girl.
Later that night, Aphrodite wearily returned to her room and hopped in the tub. Adonis was in the Underworld with that wench Persephone, so she had no source of entertainment nor company for a while yet. Sighing, ducked under the water and screamed for all she was worth. She screamed about Ares, she screamed about Evermore, and she screamed about the injustice the Three Fates had thrown upon her. Why her?!

It was evening as Ari sat by her window with a book balanced on her knee. She had her ipod on, and her fingers raced across the page as she read. Evermore hadn't been at lunch today, which allowed her to sit by herself like a total loner. It got better, though, when she was called to meet her councilor during the lunch hour. Miss DiTe was pretty chill, but she seemed to be a bit sad. This meeting had resulted in her missing Musica. She sighed and her fingers lingered over the tiny bumps. She hoped he wouldn't take offense. She wanted to see him now, but it was getting late and she didn't have the faintest idea of where to look for him. Muttering to herself, she continued to read about the Norse Gods.

Ares just watched the little thing. "Right, right," he said. Pointing down at the lake, he continued, "I'm not here to hurt anything. I'm here to make sure it doesn't do what it can do." ...If that made any sense.
