Hi biggrin My name is Lidia, I live in the UK. My parents raised me wiht no particular beliefs, though my Mum's dad's Jewish, and the rest of my family are Catholic or Protestant Christians. I've always considered myself as an atheist with Jewish heritage. I study Jewish culture and the Holocaust for my own interest, and I study Christianity and Hinduism as school in my RE classes. I'm part of an anti-prejudice organisation called NCBI that aims to reduce discrimination, and people's religion is a big part of that. I thought this would be a really good place to learn about and appreciate other religions. 3nodding

Shalom.

^_^

Well, my religious beliefs would take ages to go over, as would classifying my religion...but I generally call myself Jewish, though I've been leaning more towards Agnostic... So...whatever you wish to call me.

Alright, my story:

My mother was raised strictly Catholic, my father, strictly Jewish. Their parents forced them to practice, and told them what to believe.

Now neither of them practice. My mom still has her beliefs, but my father is entirely agnostic, and possibly, leaning towards aethiest. They didn't want their children to have no religion, because apparently, it's good for character... so they let us decide on our own. They encouraged us to research, and experiment, with any possitive religion that crossed our paths until we found one that we believed in, that suited us, that gave us our own individual path.

I attended Church on holidays and such with my mother until I was ten years old, when, even at that age, I found their teachings absolutely rediculous....and requested that I not be forced to attend with her anymore... my mother said that she wouldn't make me go to church, if I went somewhere else...so I began attending Temple with my aunt twice a month, I felt much more...at home here. Even while attending synagogue somewhat regularly, I felt the need to look into other things...which was quite encouraged by my Rabbi. So I researched many other religions, and grew quite interested in Paganism... interested enough that it forced me to question my Jewish Beliefs.. I will be fifteen years old in four days, and right now I am quite happy to say that I do not know entirely what I believe in, I don't have a set religion...

"I cannot conceive of a personal God who would directly influence the actions of individuals, or would directly sit in judgment on creatures of his own creation. I cannot do this in spite of the fact that mechanistic causality has, to a certain extent, been placed in doubt by modern science. [He was speaking of Quantum Mechanics and the breaking down of determinism.] My religiosity consists in a humble admiratation of the infinitely superior spirit that reveals itself in the little that we, with our weak and transitory understanding, can comprehend of reality. Morality is of the highest importance -- but for us, not for God."

A quote, by Einstein...that more or less sums up the basics of my religious beliefs.

By the way, my name is Val.

Ashley, I for one am willign to help you find what you believe. Note, I'm different from a prosalyte... I actually helped an ex realize what she would be interested in by asking her own beliefs. So I guess the best way to start any religious search is this: What do you believe?

Hey, I'm Andrew and I was raised a Catholic and still am one although I've drifted a bit from the typical teachings. I'm for gay marriage but still against the death penalty and abortion. Both of which I think are an odd way out of a problem and both end up with lots of guilt on the part of a lot of people.

I'm involved in my church, but don't really feel the need to go preaching to people. What people want to believe is their own choise, I came to my own conclusions, others should make up their own mind to. I have friends that are Catholic and other Christian groups, Jewish and those who believe in Wiccan faith. I don't believe in what they believe in, but I believe in them biggrin

If you have anymore questions about my faith or me in general, let me know.

Athiests, Crimson Witches, Catholics, other Pagans. We even have some Carnies. (People who are down with the riuddle box. Huzzah for Juggaloism.... Infact, I'm an honorary Carnie.) So I really can't be religion biased. Fundies piss me off big time. *waves around fundie chasing stick* I'm warning you......

*claps and cheers exuberantly* YES! SOMEONE WHO USES LOGIC! Thank you, so very much, for presenting a decent reason why someone should be against the death penalty and abortion, as opposed to "because it's wrong". WHOO! *sings and dances around a bonfire*

Just for the record, though this wasn't directed at me - I consider myself Wiccan and haven't been initiated. Go solitary-ness!

Again, just for the record, sometimes I might seem to be trying to be a know-it-all. I'm not. I know there's always something more to learn, and in Wicca, for me, a whole hell of a lot more to learn. I just need to have someone PROVE that what they're saying makes more sense than I'm saying.

...just thought I'd post that, for no apparent reason.

wow, I myself have been flamed and such for seeming to be a know it all, and not to sound like a know it all, but with wicca (at least a few traditions) if you are not initiated by a coven, you are not considered part of their inner circle.

Yes, but some branches also think that self initiation is just as 'acceptable' as being initiated by a priest or priestess. But that's a whole other can of worms. Personal path, personal preference, yes?

Hello ^_^

My name is Amanda. I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Sin City/Lost Wages) "What Happens Here, Stays Here" and all that...No, I do not live in a hotel, I live in the suburbs...so dull.

--------
I was born and raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) Church. I first began questioning it when my dad left it, when I was about 8 years old. But, I got baptized at that time, anyway.

I had a lot of ups and downs...believing/unsure/not believing. To make a long story short (as they say)....About a year ago, around the time of my 17th birthday, I realized the church was not true, or at least that I did not believe in it.

Currently, I am Agnostic. I doubt that I will ever join any religious organization. However, I find religion incredibly interesting, anyway. So, I am hoping to learn more as a member of this guild.

Hello! I named my avi Verim, which is Slovak for "I believe." (That's ver-eeem, not vermin, please.)

Anyway, I go to church every Sunday with my mother and grandmother, although I disagree with a lot of what the priest says. I still find it ok to go, though, because I like to sing and my grandmother can't stand my priest 's ramblings either. whee My church is Byzantine Catholic, which is halfway between Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox. In orthodoxy, which I would prefer, clergy are allowed to marry, and they are not under the pope. I have a lot of problems following churches. Religions, I think, are fundamentally true, and a lot of them the same (at a very base level.) It's the churches that I don't like, the politics that people contaminate a religion with.

I'm also a massage therapist, and have been introduced to Chinese medicine, which I would almost consider a religion. It's a philosophy of life, and it has been proven effective in combatting health problems in numerous scientific studies. The Tao, I guess it might even be called. I believe in spirituality. I believe in a higher power. I believe that every person is a part of that higher power, the details of this union I have not worked out, nor do I need to. I feel that it is part of who I am to teach, and in order to teach I must first learn. I love to talk philosophy of life, and I want to help.

I reccomend Caroline Myss' books to everyone. Anatomy of the Spirit is the only one I have read so far, but it rings true to me.

I look forward to discussing with all of you, and I am glad that I can be here to learn from you.
