She knew Kindle would never do anything to harm her children, or rather--she couldn’t. As she gets behind Leona, she steps closer and slowly wraps her arms around the red head’s shoulders. At first her approach was menacing, but the moment her cheek nearly rests side by side with the other woman’s she’s beaming with joy again. The mood lumbering from her person just previously is lifted, and she’s rubbing cheeks like good friends again. “That’s wonderful news! Thank you so much for complimenting us too! And oh, you should see!” She stands back up tall, clapping her hands in order to have some of her maids rush out to gather a book, and rush back in.
After handing it off, the maid backs off towards the door. “Here, look!” She places the book between Astraea and Leona, showing them pictures of their family in various instances. Each one they all seem so happy. And even now, it seems as though the children were not affected by the previously ominous atmosphere. Presently climbing about Kindle, fiddling with her curse and horns. “You see, we got married some time after we came to this island. It was love at first sight! The galant hero who saved us all, chose someone is plain and dumb as me as his wife. I never thought I’d ever find love, let alone someone as great as my dear. So, admittedly, I do tend to get a bit defensive. Especially after finding those shells at my doorstep one day…” she trails off in a somber tone, only perking up as she hears the dining room door open once more. Immediately, all the maids stand perfectly in attention, the children smile and hop off of Kindle, and the lady turns around overjoyed before running to leap into the arms of a man that had found his way in.
He silently hugs her before kneeling to embrace the children. “Dear, just like the letter said, it would seem those people from your past truly have shown up today! And they are such sweethearts!” The man places an arm around the lady before kissing her forehead, causing her to blush a bit. After she steps aside, the man holds up a hand, issuing all maids and non-guests present to leave the room. The woman hesitates for a moment, but bows and heads out the room faithfully. Now alone, the man stands before the closed door, staring at Astraea, Leona, and Kindle. “...You came. As the note said you would. At this exact time, and place.” He smiles a bit before nodding his head. “Well met, travelers from my past. My name is Cartel, Guardian of Pasithea. And you...must be the Doves.” He bends forward a bit in bow, holding one hand over his chest respectfully. ]

XXX At first Leona looked a bit nervous as the woman approached her, uncertain if she was in better spirits now, but her anxiety faded as soon as she started rubbing her cheek against her own again. "Haha, so soft!" She looked fondly upon the photo album brought to the table, grinning at the images taken of the family together. From the wedding photos, to their children as babies and snapshots of them as they started to grow, it truly seemed they were a very happy family. To the woman's explanation of her attitude, Astraea once more felt some guilt at having judged her so quickly. Of course she was going to be protective of Cartel! She loved him! If the roles were switched, she would be just as if not more aggressive in her questioning of strangers in her home. "No, no, I.. I'm sorry, I understand. I shouldn't have gotten so frustrated. We're grateful to be here, thank you." She smiled slightly as she looked over the photo album, happy to see that her old friend's life was filled with such joy. Though she wished she would have been present to congratulate and support him, in the end all that mattered was that he was content and healthy.
"So, we missed the wedding and the first two, but...Any chance you two are going to have another kid, hm?! Hm?!" Leona raised her eyebrows and grinned at their hostess, playfully sticking her tongue out. It was about then that the man of the hour finally arrived! Raea tilted her head slightly at the mention of a letter, but held her tongue to allow the family time to greet Cartel and talk to him before she started loading on the questions. See the way they interacted, her smile grew a little, and she watched them fondly until they were out of sight and it was just her, Leona, Cartel and... still Kindle for some reason. Before she can ask about the note though, the strange way he introduced himself caught the mermaid off guard. "Yes.. we.. We know who you are, Cartel." Why wasn't he including himself among the Doves? Realizing that he might share a similar infliction to what she was still working through, Raea frowned, a sense of dread churning her stomach. "Do you.. Know who we are? Our names, I mean. Do you remember us?"

Noting it, he starts to think, as he’s ever done. The observer, the watchdog, the eyes of the Doves. Quickly he comes to the conclusion that she must be hurt by her sudden realization, but he never was one to lie. Best to keep things simple. Be honest. “Normally in a time like this, I’d say no. This is the first time we’ve met I’m afraid. However, after seeing those pictures… I can’t say that in complete honesty. But the me of right now simply does not know who you people are, yet, you know me. And that is why we’re here.” He walks further into the room, placing a large bag against the wall as he does so, faintly revealing the hilt of a firearm of some sort. He would walk to the opposite side of the table from the ladies and lean against the wall with crossed arms. Another habit he held from the old days, ever being prepared in the face of strangers. But that certainly means that right now, to him, Astraea and Leona are nothing but strangers.
“A week ago I received a parcel. In it was the bag my wife, Minty, revealed to you all. And inside that were those shells, and a letter.” He pull the letter from his jacket, and expertly flick it over in its folded state, right before Leona. In it reveals a cryptic message, more or less saying that on this date at this time visitors will arrive on your island. That, you must welcome them in, and by doing so what you lost will be recovered to you. After giving the ladies time to read it over, Cartel sighs a bit. “Look, not to be rude, since for you this must be a heartfelt reunion. But, I just don’t know who you lot are. That is, I don’t recall anything before five or so years ago.” He walks closer to the table, pulling back a chair a fair bit before slowly starting to remove his jacket. Minty stands on the other side of the door, back pressed and hands clenching over her heart as she worriedly stares to the ground. Once the jacket is removed, it’s revealed both of his arms are nothing but fakes. Machines attached in place of real blood flowing ones.
To give a hint, he also taps one of his legs, giving off the sound of metal. “The first thing I remember is waking up as a torso with no limbs. I was washed up on some island, where war had all but broken out. The only reason I survived was because Minty and a group of escapee slaves took me along in hopes of us all escaping Marine captivity. It was hard, but we somehow managed to survive, secure a ship, and flee the battle zone. For some reason, I had knowledge of this island, and so we came her. The rest is history.” He starts to put back on his shirt and jacket while staring at the shell show casing he and Roma. “What I want to know is...who I was before. What, I was before. I have talents for exceeding that of a normal man, the sight of blood doesn’t phase me, no matter what happens I’m always calm. It’s like I’m some sort of...monster, who has gotten so desensitized to violence that-” His words are cut short as Minty bursts in, a frown on her face and tears running down her cheeks. She storms over to the man and stands before him with her hands clenching by her sides.
“Don’t! I told you before, don’t! It’s...this is… ! It doesn’t matter who you were! What’s important is who you are now! What if you do remember! What if you remember, and you become someone...else. What if you decide to leave us…! We… We’re nothing without you, darling! We’re weak! We can’t survive without you protecting us! And I… I can’t…” she has trouble forming her words as she fights between fits of crying and sniffling. The rabbit woman does her best to try and think of the words. The darn words! But they do not come. She can only lower her head in defeat, having burst in here making a fool of herself. Yet, despite this, Cartel places a palm atop her head. As she looks up, she notices the man smiling calmly to her. “Even if I did remember everything, this is my life now, Min. I won’t leave you, or the children. I just want to remember. I want to complete who I am. No gaps...no regrets. And so…” He pulls Minty in close to hold her with an arm while looking determined towards Astraea. “Tell me everything that happened between us.” ]

XXX Ah, so it was true. Someone had tampered with Cartel's memory just like they'd tampered with hers. Sighing, the woman cast her eyes down at the ground for a moment, nodding solemnly before she looked back at her old friend. Glancing over at what he leaned against the wall, Astraea took a strange solace in noticing he still carried familiar weapons on him. At the very least not everything was different. He was still the same Cartel, whether or not he remembered Eden's Dove, and she was no less happy to see him doing so well. At the mention of the package, she crossed her arms over her chest, subconsciously mimicking the man on the other side of the table from her. Leaning over to look over Leona's shoulder, the two women read over the note he'd received. "How strange... Only one other person knew we were coming here, and I don't think even she has access to stuff like this.. This is supposed to be a very secretive island so that fact that others know about it is.. disconcerting to say the least. Even more so for you, I'm sure." She gave the man a sympathetic nod, certain that if this was her home, she'd be quite panicked.
As Cartel removed his jacket, Raea tilted her head slightly, and then felt her blood run cold. In place of the man's flesh, metallic arms flashed in the light of the room. "Oh, Cartel, what happened to you..." She couldn't help the horrified, worried expression on her face, something Leona was quick to try to shut down. "Astraea, don't stare like that." Jolting slightly, the mermaid cast her gaze to the side, staring out the window instead. As it turned out, he was going to explain what happened to him anyway. The pair listened to his story in stunned silence, and while it answered some of her questions, it brought up just as many new ones. Would any of them ever fully be able to piece together the fragments of their memories? Finally, Raea got the courage to turn her head back toward the man, though she still looked guilty. When Minty came in, she watched the couple with a saddened but understanding gaze. It was so easy for her to see herself in that woman. As desperately protective of her husband as she was afraid of losing him. Afraid that at any moment he could disappear and she would be left alone.
"Minty.. You really have nothing to worry about, I promise. I knew.. I've known Cartel for a long time now, and if I had to pick one word to describe him with it's 'reliable'. If he makes a promise to you, you know he's going to keep it. Every time. He loves you, and he's happy here by your side. I can tell that just from seeing the pictures you showed us, and from looking at you now." She offered the woman a gentle smile. "He's always going to be there for you." Hoping that her words brought the woman at least some sort of comfort, she moved on to more... difficult topics. "Before I start I just wanted to say.. I don't think you're a monster, Cartel. I always.." Now it was her turn to start to get choked up, but she forced herself to continue. "I always admired you. You were so calm, and rational, and smart even when things were scary. I always found it so inspiring, and I wanted to be just like that some day.." Sighing, she shook her head. Such were qualities that belonged to people like him and Leona and Y'shtola. Not people like her. "I know you don't remember us, but you always took good care of us no matter what. You protected us. So.. Thank you."
Forcing a smile, she pulled out chair and sat down, looking at the shells on the table and starting to sort them to the best of her abilities. "We were part of a group called Eden's Dove.." And from there, she did her best to explain everything. How they'd been selected. How they'd been paired up. The missions they'd been on. How the World Government had betrayed them, and now, where they were at. "I'm still missing things, too, so I can't give you a full picture, I'm sorry.. But I.. I hope that helped."

There shouldn’t be anyone that knows about this island, but not only did this person find the island, they also bypassed the mist illusions and found his home specifically. The chime fountain didn’t even react. For now, he’d leave the matter aside. Whoever the person was doesn’t seem to have any malevolent intent. Rather, it seems they are trying to help him, for some reason. The mood is subverted when he reveals his ruined body to the ladies. Though they tried to look away, he didn’t feel shame from it. These limbs were made by the people of this town as a thank you to their savior. He feels pride in them, but curiosity on how his limbs were removed in the first place. After his wife’s outburst, Astraea slowly gave him the long and short of their time together. But only after lifting the trembling from Minty’s heart.
The story began, breaking down almost everything. From their meeting as recruits, newbies to the Doves, their countless missions together, their downfall, and Roma… Roma. That...name. As he hears it, it’s as if something within him triggers. He winces, and grips his head before dropping to a knee. Minty calls out his name, confused and scared that something might be wrong. He heaves before sliding his hand from his face, placing it onto her lap. “It...It’s fine… I’m...fine.” So he says, as he slowly stands himself back up with the help of his lover. The tall man is moved to a seat across from the others where he remains silent for some time. Finally, he smiles a bit while looking at some of the various pictures hovering above the shells laid about the table. Minty, still worried, stays close by his side in the off chance he needs something immediately. But Cartel only rubs his chin in thought.
“You’ve given me quite the tale there, Ms. Astraea. As wondrous as it is, I...simply can’t recall. It felt like something was trying to come back, but I just can’t remember.” He starts to close all of the shells, calling the images back into the cretaceous devices. Ultimately placing them back in the bag, and gently pushing it across the table. His eyes give a sorrowful smile, as if he wasted the time of his guests, but he shakes his head all the same. “I don’t remember any of this, but you two do. Keep them. Better they be keepsakes of the past in your hands than mine.” It’s around this time that Galand begins to stir. Slowly do his eyes creak open, until finally they snap wide. He sits up in a hurry, looking around at the unfamiliar environment. The last he remembers, he was in the ant nest, so where the hell is he now. He leaps out of the bed, looking around back and forth before padding to the nearest window, pushing it open. The sight before him causes the man to smile in amazement.
They were so high up, and all around are strange plants and lights he has never seen before. “Whoooooooa! What the heck is with this place?! This is awesome!” he calls out, forcing one of the maids hiding against the door to giggle. The other, surprised by her friend’s lack of tact, tries her damnedest to stop her, but to no avail. Galand turns around, surprised by their presence and stares in shock. One, due to not realizing anyone else was in the room, and two, because these two women have what appear to be rabbit ears in their head! He dashes over in amazement, bending down a bit to inspect them. “Bunnies! You have bunny ears! Like actual bunnies! Wahahaha! That’s so cute!” The tactless one turns her head away faintly in a blush, peaking from her peripheral at the man before her. While the other yelps in surprise, completely covering up her red flushed face.
“M-Master! Y-Your clothes! Clothes!” she calls out, unable to form full sentences. Galand listens in confusion for a bit before looking down at himself, noticing that he’s buck naked. He audibly yells out, wholly and completely embarrassed at himself for not having realized. The voice echoes out through the house, garnering the attention of both Cartel and Minty who rush to leave the dining room and to the source of the voice. ]

XXX Watching Cartel struggle as she told their tale, Astraea could only look on in sympathy. She knew how it felt, and what he was going through, having experienced it himself. It was a strange, painful, and terrifying experience to recall a memory of a long forgotten and altered past. Buried beneath whatever it was that chained their memories was the truth, but breaking the bonds that held it back was no easy task. Hearing Cartel address her so formally, she smiles sadly, wanting to correct him but well aware that as they were right now, she was merely a stranger to him and he was just being polite as usual. "It's alright if you can't remember. Now or ever. I know it's hard to believe, but it's true. At least, it's what I know to be true. Honestly, the fact that you aren't able to remember might be a blessing in disguise." She gave a slight shrug as she looked over at Minty for a moment. "You have a beautiful family, and a wonderful home here on this island. You served your time with Eden's Dove, you answered every call, and you did a damn good job protecting us and the people of this world. You don't need to concern yourself with our fight anymore, Guardian. And even if you've forgotten who we are, I hope that one day.. Maybe you could consider us friends, again."
For a bit, Raea let herself fantasize about such a thing. Being able to sit and talk to Cartel again. Getting to know Minty. Being able to play with their children. It was a nice thought, at least. As her old friend pushed the bag back, she shook her head. "Those are for you. A part of who you are. Galand and I.. We got something similar to what you have there. If you don't want to keep them all, that's fine, but.." Sighing, she dug through the bag for a moment, ruffling through things until she found one photo in particular. It was all of them, celebrating the coming of the new year, engaged in various festivities, all with bright smiles on their faces. Roma was setting off confetti canons with some contraption she had built. Leona had her hands clasped together in front of a cake with brilliant, sizzling candles that Y'shtola and Celty were eyeing excitedly. Cartel and Dist seemed to be engaged in some sort of drinking competition. Even Ran and Noella seemed to have broken from their usual stoic moods, calmly playing a card game with each other while Galand and Raea shared a kiss. Seeing it brought tears to the woman's eyes that she quickly forced back with a few blinks as she slid it back toward Cartel. "At least.." She cleared her throat. "At least consider keeping this one?" Even if he never truly remembered them, she didn't want him to forget either, and somehow knowing that he would have at least one picture of them all together and happy soothed her pain just a little. "Galand and I.." Her voice still seemed a little tight, fighting against the lump in her throat.
"It wasn't our intention to be a burden upon you and your family, so if you wish for us to go, we would be happy t-" Hearing Galand's yell, the mermaid was quick to hop to her feet, eyes widened with surprise. She immediately bolted passed Cartel and Minty, rounding the corner of the hallway only to find a large crowd of admittedly adorable bunny maids curiously gathered near the door. Pushing her way through, Raea threw the door open to see.. her very naked fiance. She froze for a moment, blinking several times before she seemed to register what was going on, fury and embarrassment coloring her cheeks red as she looked between Galand and the maids inside the room. "W-W-What are you doing?!" Quickly, she pushed the poor maids out of the room into the crowd of their companions, slamming the door behind them. "Out, out!" Turning her head over her shoulder, she glared at Galand, her eye twitching, a scowl on her face. "YOU!" Lunging after him, it didn't take her long before she was able to wrestle him down, wrapping him up tightly until he resembled a burrito.
Sitting on top of him, she crossed her arms over her chest, looking away from him with a pout. "Did you become some kind of lech while I was gone or something?!" She didn't know why those other women had been in there, but she couldn't help but be jealous! They were adorable bunny girls after all! What did she have on that?! "Did you get bored of me that quickly?!"

For Cartel who worried about whether his words would hurt her or not, receiving her blessing in his lack of memory served only to lighten the load on his conscious. For this, he replies to her words with both a smile, and nod. This blessing is shared with Minty as well, who almost blushes at all the praise she was given. The couple looks to one another peacefully, as if reaffirming the love they share. Cartel gives a light chuckle as Astraea finishes. “I know for a fact we shared memories together. These serve as proof, and this strange feeling of joy in my chest only proves it further. I may not remember, but my body and instincts do. I feel comfort in your presence, and that...is good enough in my book. The me of right now? I’d like to think we can be good friends as well.” The joyous feeling flowing through the room only escalates as Astraea hands over one last shell, as a sign of both the past, their friendship, and memories as their time as Doves.
Cartel holds the device up to his face, staring at the image emanating from its top. After a sigh, he recalls the image, and slides the shell into his inner coat pocket, before giving the blonde a nod. “Very well. If you insist, I’ll accept this gift. And to tell you the truth, I was hoping to keep one or two for myself. They make me feel a bit nostalgic.” Minty giggles while giving his shoulder a nudge, not understanding why he needed to try and act all brave. All he had to do was ask after all. But, having no response, Cartel can only chuckle while rubbing the back of his head in awkwardness. As things wind down, Astraea’s words start to get a bit...saddening. Though she didn’t get to finish her statement, due to the loud scream, he words stick to his head. But for now, he and Minty stare at one another, finishing with a nod. Then the pair dashes off to catch up with Astraea who had already left the others in the dust. As if she was looking for any and every chance to run off.
By the time they make it to the door, she’s slamming it shut behind herself. “YOU!” Everyone outside listens intently on the inside before hearing the sound of clattering and crashing, then a man’s wail of agony, all the while making faces reacting to each sound. Cartel looks to the others a bit offput before questioning the origin on the sound. “I take it...there was another guest with you ladies? Another… Dove?” he’d ask Leona in particular. Inside the room, Galand finds himself rolled up like a snack, with only his head poking out. He tries to wiggle about, but his lover really bound him good. His head tilts from side to side as he groans pointlessly. He isn’t breaking himself out of this one… “A-Astraea?! What’s going on?! Where- Wait a minute, what do you mean a lech?! I woke up like this! I don’t even know where I am, or who those cute bunny girls were! Why am I the one in trouble here?!” He struggles more, wiggling about but to no avail. Yeah, there isn’t any breaking this. Astraea is 100% Grade A mad wife right now.
One of the maids from before hesitantly, and softly knocks on the door. “I-Is… Is everything, um… alright...in there? I… I’m sorry for screaming before…?” Galand hears this and comically yells at the door in anger. “It’s you, right?! The adorable bunny from just now! Tell her! Tell Raea that I’m innocent here! If you don’t, I’m dead meat!” The girl falls back, her imagination going wild as to what in the world could be happening behind those closed doors for him to say such a scary thing. Her friend, the other bunny girl from earlier, falls onto her back laughing from the ridiculous sequence of events. Galand hears this, and grows increasingly concerned. “You’re laughing?! Help me! She’s really really mad! I’m in mortal danger you know! R-Raea! Please! I seriously have no clue what’s happening! R...Raea?” He tries to glance up at her, slowly however, fearing what kind of face the Fishwoman could be making right now. Just how angry is she, or maybe...just maybe, she’s not even angry at all! I mean, yeah, it’s not like he actually did anything wrong, right? ...Right? ]

XXX To know that Cartel was willing to reestablish their old friendship, despite the years and tragedies stretched between them, was a great comfort to Astraea. She was the eldest of her siblings, and she'd always felt a kinship with Cartel that she imagined one might if they had an older brother. It was nice to have someone to look up to. Someone to rely on. Especially considering how calm and rational he was in every scenario, there were many times in the past that just sitting and talking with him has assuaged her fears. "Thank you.. That means a lot to me." Blinking back tears - though they were happy ones this time - she laughed at his admittance that he wanted to keep some of the shells. "You can keep them all! Like I said, this was your gift! Take whatever it is you think you need." It was nice reminiscing over the pictures, but they were better off with Cartel. There was always a possibility looking over them could trigger his memories to return, and it was also a wonderful excuse to go visit him, though she doubted she'd need to convince anyone as to why she wanted to visit her old friend.
"Never a dull moment.." Trotting after the group, Leona nodded to Cartel as he asked his question. "Yeah, Galand, our old leader. He's also Raea's fiance, and as usual, got himself pretty banged up earlier. So I believe some of your maids took him over here to recover and.. oof.." The woman cringed slightly as she heard the various crashes and bangs inside the room, followed by Galand's mournful but admittedly comedic wail. Meanwhile, on the inside, Astraea was continuing her verbal lashing. "I'd like to know what's going on, too! You're just going to trot around in somebody's house naked?! And in front of other women, no less!" Speaking of those other women! Raea turned her head to scowl at the door, her voice overlapping with Galand's pleads for help. "Go away!" She didn't want anything to do with those cute bunny girls right now! How could she not feel jealous when she compared herself to them?! Hell, even Galand was there calling them cute and adorable!
Cheeks red in anger and embarrassment, the woman kept her face turned away for a few moments. It wasn't as though she felt that Galand would cheat on her, per say, but she was well aware that people seemed drawn to him quite frequently. Not that she could blame them. He was special, and it was only luck that she was at his side and not somebody else. How many times in the past had people told her to take care of him? Reiterated his wondrous traits to her? She knew, dammit! She knew that! Compared to him, she was a dull, replaceable thing. How many others in the world had grown up the way she had? Fought the way she fought? Unlike him, she wasn't special. And she doubted that people had ever gone out of their way to plead with Galand to take care of her. By nature, she wasn't a possessive person, but of course she was scared of the idea that one day the universe would realize its mistake, placing something so brilliant with something so ordinary. There was a reason he was Starlight, and she was just his night sky, after all.
"You woke up like that, huh..?" Though there was still anger in her gaze, there was no mistaking the pain apparent in her eyes, and her voice seemed quieter than before. Slumping her shoulders in defeat, she stood up, but left Galand wrapped up like the poor confused burrito he was. Walking to the door, she opened it, glancing between the two maids who had been in her partner's room when she'd arrived. "So it was you two.. Well.." The woman balled her fists up and swallowed hard, then suddenly opened the door wider and gestured for them to come in. "By all means, since you seem to like him so much, go ahead! Go on and see if he likes you as well!" Her gaze shifted and fell on Kindle, the only other person she'd seen attend to him when he'd been carried off. "Or perhaps it was you? Well, now that he's awake, why don't you get reacquainted?!" Turning her head over her shoulder to look at the man on the floor, she let out what appeared to be a short, hysteric laugh. "Remember your other fiance, Galand Drace?! She's cute too, right!"

Astraea refuses to take in the bundled man’s plea as she berates him for his reckless actions before those other women. Rather, her words and actions come off as strange, foreign even. Was she...always the jealous type? Surely she heard him say he only woke up this way, so why is she acting like this? Asking these things to himself in his head, Galand can only frown at the verbal lashings. Things lead to her walking off towards the door as he attempts at reaffirming his words--when the fishwoman finally decided to repeat them, but to no avail. She opens the door, and goes into a sort of rampage, throwing jealous shade at the two maids who only wanted to help the man recover, as they were charged to do. The more weak willed one stares up at the furious blonde with winded eyes, tears building up ever slowly.
Eventually she crawls away, to hide behind her standing friend. The friend who glares at the woman sternly, crossing her arms. “Hey now, why are you killing the mood. We were only trying to help him out, so what’s your deal?!” she says, like a teenager unyielding to oppression. Galand progressively frowns as the trade of words continues. Losing his grip on just who the hell this woman is. She even decides to go after Kindle who, unlike the maids, takes action. Kindle sighs, shaking her head in disappointment again--just like in the caves, before walking forward and shoving Astraea aside to enter the room. “Insecure. Weak.” Even though her translator doesn’t appear to be present, it’s not hard to tell what she’s trying to get across here. The woman walks over to Galand and kneels by his side, rubbing his head gently with her hand, smiling all the while. She does this for a long time before touching her throat, clearing it, and focusing deeply.
“...D-Do not… worry? ...Will… save you?” she says before moving to undo the wrapping. Though bare now, it wouldn’t last long. The shy maid creeps along the side in attempts to avoid Astraea before darting in the room, covering her face. She grabs the man’s clothing, and places them on top of him before bowing with tight shut eyes, and running back out. Her friend pats her head, giving her praise for trying so hard. Cartel rubs his chin for a bit before ordering everyone uninvolved to disperse. Catching the drift, even Minty walks off back up the stairs children in tow. With them gone, the man of the house walks towards the door, placing a hand on Astraea’s shoulder. “How about you go ahead and get dressed for now. It’s going to be a bit awkward to talk to you like this.” After hearing the voice, Galand, who had up to this point sat there with his head hung low, looks up with a small smile. He exhales and nods, grabbing hold of the cloth.
Though he refused it at first, Kindle helps him get dressed since technically he’s supposed to be enduring physical therapy right now. After some time, he and Kindle leave the open room to greet the others in the main lobby. Galand, using Kindle as a prop to stay up, looks around at everyone. Leona, Cartel, ...Astraea, and himself. The sight forces him to smile. “Look at you. You’re looking better than ever.” he says, directing this to Cartel. The man lightly chuckles before crossing his arms. “Can’t say the same about you, sadly. From the pictures, you had way more energy. But now, you look like you’re ready to kick the bucket.” The way he says this makes Galand tilt his head, but he smiles confidently all the same. At the very least, Cartel’s picking is the same. The atmosphere is fairly nice at first, until Kindle looks up to the man while a smile. “Dar...ling. Want...rest?” She asks him, wishing to let him have a seat for a while.
Galand, glances over to her in confusion, but nods. “Sure… That’s probably for the best. Lets sit for a while. Also, who are you anyways?” Cartel, and even Minty standing up at the balcony, look forth in surprise. Did he really not know? But, she seems to know him quite well! Rather, isn’t she his other fiance or something?! No, before any of that, did he seriously just let a random woman dress him when his actual fiance is right there?! Nearly everyone in the house make a similar face of cringe, preparing for the worst at this point. Just how much of an idiot is this guy?! Galand looks around confused, trying to piece things together. ]

XXX Getting into a spat with the maids of her old friend's home certainly was not how Astraea had expected her reunion with Cartel to go, but she just couldn't seem to stop herself. "I fail to see how stripping him qualifies as help, but by all means, enlighten me!" If she wasn't so fueled by her own fury, she would have felt terrible for making the other maid cry. But right now, the feelings of others seemed to be the furthest thing from her mind. As Kindle pushed her out of the way, the woman's hands twitched, her fingers curling slightly as if she were preparing to swipe at her foe for a moment before she simply resolved to leaning tensely against the wall, her head hung. Out of the corner of her eye she watched Galand's interaction with his.. other fiance, biting her lip with more pressure the longer the scene stretched out. Even as the other maid darted in to throw her partner's clothing on top of him, she made no movements, nor even seemed she could be bothered enough to lift her head to look at the poor girl. Feeling Cartel's hand on her shoulder, she finally jolted, looking up in surprise, then embarrassment, and then shame. What the hell was she doing, acting like this in his home? "Cartel.. I.. I'm sorry.. I didn't.. Sorry.."
Quickly she cast her gaze back to the ground to hide her frustrated tears, bringing one arm across her chest to grab hold of her other one, rubbing it anxiously. For a moment she lingered by the door as Kindle helped her fiance, waiting to see if he would call her in to help him instead. But he didn't. Vision blurry, she followed after their gracious host, staring out the window in what now felt like awkward silence. When the duo returned, Raea glanced over to them for a moment, before her gaze seemed to fall rather emptily upon the wall across from her. She wasn't quite hanging her head anymore, but she also didn't appear to be looking at... well, anything, as she continued to wallow in her anger and self pity. So far seeing Cartel had been the only highlight of this trip. The island was gorgeous yes, and she thought his family was beautiful, but everything up to his point had been such a damn hassle and she was tired. Was she expected to keep going? To remain cheerful and carefree in spite of all the bullshit this island kept throwing at her? That's what everyone seemed to expect, and so it seemed she was going to deliver yet another disappointment.
Galand's words, as surprising and cringe worthy as they were to everyone else, didn't seem to phase her. Her eyes shifted to the pair as they talked, then drifted back to the wall she'd been staring at, as if that were somehow more interesting. Clearing her throat awkwardly, Leona gestured at the table and chairs. "Yes, let's sit for a bit! And maybe we can get all of this sorted out, no?" The spearwoman smiled to the woman helping Galand, taking a seat. "We did get off to a rough start, so let's start over. My name's Leona. From what was discussed back in the cave, it seems you have a connection to Dist, Cartel, and our Galand here. Do you mind explaining all of that to us?"

Treating the poor women who only did their jobs of recovering the injured like common whores, after any man they can get their hands on. The more nervous of the pair shakes her head out of both fear and concern, sternly looking at the blonde haired woman. “W-We… Um! That’s because…!” As she fumbles with her words, she’s silently shushed by Cartel who gently holds a finger over her lips, and provides a smile. To which the bunny's ears droop a bit and she nods in respect to her master’s orders. The other of the two merely crosses her arms with a huff, turning her head away from Astraea in defiance, deciding she doesn’t like the rude woman who borderline bullied her friend. At the very least, Cartel seems rather accepting of the entire scenario, and gives Astraea a reassuring smile as if understanding wholly.
> [ x ]
Once things transitioned outside the room, and Galand’s foolishness had been sufficiently pushed from everyone’s minds by Leona’s suggestion, the group heads for the tables to sit and properly talk things over now. As everyone chooses a seat, Galand would wait for Astraea to choose her own chair--assuming she did, before moving to sit next to her. Kindle on the other hand, would sit on the opposite side of him, still clinging to his arm. The man turns to her, rubbing the back of his head in confusion before chalking it up to her being happy to support him. Likely, just one of the helpers in the house maybe? So, he lets it go and turns to Cartel with a bright smile, and the other man returns the gesture. It winds down to the pair reaching over and shaking hands. “It’s been a long time, man! How have you been?! And, is this really your place? It’s huge! C’mon! Spill it! Tell me what you’ve been up to these five to six years!” Galand questions, wasting no time in asking about the gap when they were away.
The last he remembered, he had saved Roma and Cartel before rushing off to assist the others. After the news that things didn’t quite go as planned, he was worried beyond belief. In the end, Galand is left feeling all kinds of emotions from the back to back revelations. The loss of the man’s memories, his limbs, and everything he once held dear in the past. All he HAS are the five or so years left to him. Shocked from this info, Galand’s head hangs low with widened eyes. His body trembles faintly, prompting Kindle’s concerned response. She tries to tilt over and stare into his eyes with her own, but the man closes his tightly. Be it out of frustration or anger, who knows. In the end, he quickly throws his head back, taking in a huge breath of air before exhaling it as if letting a bunch of weight off of his shoulders. “Thank the gods…” He says, earning confusion from those present. Once he lowers his head, he stares at Cartel confidently.
“You’ve been through quite a lot it seems. And, this will sound a bit selfish, but I’m just glad you’re alive and doing well. Heck, you’ve even gone and gotten yourself a pretty wife, and kids! Ha ha ha! You sly b*****d! Leave it to the genius to go and find happiness in all of that darkness.” Cartel can only look in surprise at those words, having expected a completely different response--unknowing of as to why he’d think Galand would react that way, but he simply felt like the man would be a lot more distraught. Under the table, if allowed, Galand would try to link his trembling hand with Astraea’s clearly struggling to hold back the negativity in his heart. A mix of jealousy, anger for his lack of ability, and lost time with his friends swirl deep within his chest, but for the sake of his friend he holds it in. From there, for what seemed like hours the group would talk about their lives, with Galand regaling their adventures together, much to the amazement of the children who, with each story, see their father as some sort of super hero.
But ultimately, night creeps up on the group, and the time comes for their leave. “Can I at least convince you all to stay at an Inn for the night? There’s no reason why you have to leave tonight is there?” he asks. Galand looks to his two companions and smile before nodding to the man. ]

XXX Seeing Cartel's smile and the understanding in his eyes, Astraea had to fight back the tears in her eyes as she followed the group out. The man simply had a calming presence about him, and knowing that at least he wasn't perplexed by her seemingly out of character outburst soothed her heart a little. Nevertheless, she chastised herself for her behavior, knowing that she had let her insecurities overcome all sense of reason and hospitality. She was, after all, a guest here, and if Cartel had chosen the people who worked in his home, then they were no doubt wonderful people and trustworthy with whatever tasks it was they were assigned. When she was feeling like herself again, she'd have to find a way to apologize and make it up to the poor maids she'd lashed out at. Sighing, the woman sat down heavily in her chair, as if her whole body was weighed down by the events of the day. Old memories of nights she had sat with Cartel, on a roof or somewhere high up, overlooking Elysium or some village as they talked arose in her mind, a bittersweet imagery that lightened her spirits as much as it broke her heart.
Briefly, she glanced over to the side when Galand sat down, noticing Kindle was still clinging to his arm. Her partner seemed to acknowledge this as well, but didn't seem as bothered by it as she was personally. In fact, he'd seemingly warmed up to her rather quickly, so maybe they really did have a past together. The sadness in the woman's eyes deepened, and she felt the sickening stab of jealously in her stomach like a knife. Turning her head away, she started listlessly against at nothing in particular, occasionally zoning back into reality when people moved around her or spoke. Of course, now that he was awake, it was time for Galand to hear the whole story. Tensing up, Raea felt the pit in her stomach grow ever larger, her heart beginning to beat quicker as she anticipated her fiance's distress. He'd been more volatile than she remembered him, even if he was slowly returning to his cheerful, goofy demeanor. Seeing his movement beside her, the woman turned her head to watch him, noticing the trembling of his body. With the slightest of movements, she tilted her body closer to his so that their arms just barely brushed up together. Moving one hand from her lap, she gently stroked against the outside of his thigh up to his knee, settling it there in case he needed her.
As he spoke to Cartel, she smiled slightly, feeling her own sentiment echoed in his words. Even if everything that had happened hurt, she too was just glad her old friend was alive and well. That being said, they still had to carry the pain with them. Feeling Galand's hand grab hers, her smile faltered a little, and she squeezed his hand. As the group continued to talk, the woman rhythmically moved her thumb against his skin in a soothing, circular motion. Even if the others around them couldn't quite tell anymore, she knew he was far from processing the information Cartel had given him. His posture was different. His voice was just a little bit tighter sounding. His laughter seemed even more enthusiastic than before, because he was compensating for the sadness in his heart. Even if she was upset with him, it wasn't as though she wished for him to suffer, and knowing that he was experiencing the same anguish she was only furthered dampened her spirits. But she tried to keep on the charade as well. At the very least, they owed it to Cartel to try to enjoy the night. To enjoy whatever time it was that they had with him now, because they had learned that nothing else was guaranteed.
Around the time the two children began to yawn and grow drowsy, everyone seemed to understand that the night had reached its end. Hearing Cartel's offer for them to stay on the island longer, Astraea smiled and nodded as well. Even if she hadn't had a good experience on the island so far, it was definitely worth it if it meant she got to see her old friend longer. They had five years worth of time to make up for, after all. "That's very kind of you. It would be our pleasure to stay for the night. Thank you." Smiling, Leona stood up, working out the details of their placement for the night with Minty and Cartel. As they made their way to the inn, Raea kept her hand gripping her lover's, walking in silence for the time being. Even though it was dark now, the scenery around them was no less lovely. Those strange, beautiful fireflies glowed even brighter now, colorful hues of pastels lighting up their path. Despite all of the horrible news, hopefully Galand could enjoy this now, since he'd been asleep the first time they'd made their way through the island. As Leona moved to finish their sleeping arrangements with the innkeeper, Raea stopped outside and looked up at her partner, not minding Kindle for the time being if she was still there. "You okay?"

Despite how bustling and busy the town of rabbit-folk was during the day, at night it’s as if the world stood still. The only sound left to the ears are that of the various mills, wind chimes, and leaves dancing to the night breeze. The walk is quite silent for a bit, until Kindle moves ahead of the group and turns to look over her shoulder. Her eyes hold a sense of regret, or maybe longing, before she turns ahead with a huff. “Night now. Leave darling...in your hands.” After Which she walks off on her own to gods knows where. Though, unbeknownst to them, she does so with a slight smile on her face, happy that she was able to spend some time with her supposed beloved before exiting. Galand, still having no clue as to who she is, just holds up a hand to see her off. She was kind to him at least, and helped him out back there, so it’s the least he can do. Once the woman’s form fades from view, his expression falters a bit before he goes back to trying to compose himself.
For now, the march to the inn would continue undisturbed. It’s only when they finally arrive does Astraea stop the man outside the building, allowing for Leona to handle their arrangements as she’s want to do. After receiving her question, Galand is only left to fumble around in his thoughts. He wants to just straight up say he feels horrible about what happened to Cartel, but he just can’t get the words to come out. For him, it feels like it’d be disrespectful to both the man’s newfound family and life on this island. He should be happy, but instead… Galand rubs the back of his head before shifting his hands onto his hip and sighing aloud. “I...didn’t know all of that happened to Cartel. I was so happy to see him, and was excited to bring him back with us, but now I’m feeling really messed up. Considering everything he went through, all of that pain and suffering, and he doesn’t even remember us in the least bit.” His hands grip his sides a bit tighter before he kicks the ground out of frustration.
“I know he has a family and all now, but goddammit what about us! What about Roma?! He gets to just...forget it all?! He gets to walks away from everything that happened, and move on with a brand new life?! That smug b*****d! He… he just… But, I can’t help...but to feel happy for him. He’s...free.” Galand lifts a balled fist, preparing to slam the side of it onto the helpless inn building, but stops just short of striking it, and huffs out. His face is a mess of emotions, ranging from anger, sadness, confusion, and tinges of happiness all at once. All he can think to do now is sit down on the ground and ruffle his hair out of frustration. “Argh! What do we do now, dammit! We came all the way here but, there’s just no way I can take him from all of this…” In his heart, he can only image Cartel leaving them behind for his new life, his back turned to the group as he moves further away. But Galand can’t bring himself to even hold out a hand. He has to let him go. He has to. ]

XXX With Kindle gone, Astraea couldn't help but feel a little more relaxed. She wasn't used to having to compete for Galand's attention or affection, and it was easy to get caught up in her jealousy. But for now, she had to put her own emotions to the side to help her fiance, who she knew was putting on a mask for everyone else around them. Now that they were alone though, it seemed he felt comfortable letting the mask slip. In silence, she listened to him explain himself, nodding every so often to show that she was listening. At the very least, he hadn't reacted nearly as poorly as she'd thought he might. Truly, he seemed like he was returning back to his old self, which was wonderful minus the self destructive habits. Even if he hadn't destroyed anything in his anger or remorse though, that didn't make the emotions he was experiencing any less difficult to deal with. And they were in the same boat. While she was happy to see Cartel happy with his family, the disappointment she felt knowing he would never be a Dove with them again broke her heart. But she'd told the man herself: he'd fulfilled his obligation to them, and ten times over at that.
For a couple moments, Raea remained quiet, trying to process how she was going to try to comfort her lover. Sitting in front of him, she crossed her legs to make herself comfortable, and reached one hand forward to grab his own. "I know that it's hard. It hurts me, too.." Sighing, she glanced around the area they were in, smiling slightly. "But I'm also happy. Cartel deserves this. We all do. A life where we can be happy and safe one day. So even though it's painful to think... To think that he doesn't know us or that he won't fight with us again, I'm happy. He's not gone! He's still with us!" Giving her fiance's hand a squeeze, she continued. "Even if he's different, he's still our Cartel. And there's some part of him that does know us! He told me that he felt comfortable in my presence, that he felt we could be good friends, and that the pictures he saw of all of us made him feel nostalgic. I know it can feel unfair. And that Roma is his partner, and she still needs him, but.. Cartel's family needs him, too. So, you're right. We can't take him away from this."
That said, it wasn't as though she was ready for the man to disappear from their lives! "So we won't take him away from here. We'll just make sure we come back to him, okay? Let's.. Let's spend a little more time here on the island, and then we'll move on to rescuing Roma ourselves. And when we do that, we'll come back here, and all of us will celebrate." Hopefully this solution would please Galand enough to make him feel a little better.

Galand knows all too well that this is the best way for things to be, but he hates the fact that he has to accept it. Or rather, that he wants to accept it. The more she goes on, the more down he feels. Yet, within those conflicting emotions lies hints of pride. His friend, and in some cases mentor, overcame the odds of the past and found happiness in the end. Now, he’s free from it all. The fighting, the missions, the lies, the pain… He’s free. Galand, using his free hand, covers his eyes and forehead in shame. Yet he smiles, gritting his teeth as he does so. “Thanks for being alive, Cartel.” he whispers under his breath. After a few moments to collect himself, he exhales and looks to Astraea with a face of restored confidence. Fragile though it may be, it is still confidence. In both the future, and his friend.
“You’re right, Angelfish. Maybe he can’t come with us. It sucks, that’s for sure. But, he seemed really happy, and his has people here who care for him deeply. Cartel has his place, and we have ours…” His eyes shut, and his head tilts back a bit as if to face the sky. After feeling a light night breeze pass by, he returns his gaze back to Astraea, and looks once more to her face. “Well, he’s not the only lucky one though.” he’d utter before moving to stand up. “Come on. Let’s get inside. Leona should be done with the preparations by now.” All the while, Kindle sits upon a tree, staring down at the pair. Coldly focusing her gaze on Astraea until a voice from her pocket beckons her return to ‘the ship’. The woman looks to Galand one more time before replying and leaping across the trees to leave the forest, and likely, the island. And back at Cartel’s house, he holds up the dial revealing the image his friends wanted him to keep. Minty walks up to the seated back and wraps her arms around him from behind.
She looks at the picture with a smile, thinking about how happy her husband looks in the image. “Are you sure you didn’t want to keep anymore of the shells? You seemed like you were fond of them…” She questions, moving her gaze to her husband’s eyes. The man chuckles a bit before reaching into his inner jacket pocket and pulling out one more shell. He holds it forward before revealing its contents. It’s a image of him and Roma seated on a cliff side, watching the fireworks above the ocean view. Holding hands, and smiling peacefully. “I did manage to slip just one more from them.” Minty giggles before releasing the man, and moving to sit next to him. They pair sit there for quite some time before Minty turns her gaze to the large moon in the sky.
The maids stand by the doorway quietly, listening in unintentionally to the conversation of their masters. It’s only when the lady of the house speaks up again does the ambient silence of the night break. “You...don’t plan to tell them you remembered?” Her eyes never leave the moon, as if she can already tell what kind of face the man is making. “Maybe one day. Yeah, maybe one day…” he whispers, turning his gaze up to the moon as well. As does the maids. ]
