                      The Merchant
                      xxxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxsᴇʟʟᴇʀ ᴏғ ϙᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴᴀʙʟᴇ ᴏʙᴊᴇᴄᴛs

The Merchant was really not used to getting mixed up in these sorts of situations, these... these magick affairs. He usually just watched from the sidelines, picking up bits of gossip. It never directly involved him, and it never involved his friends extremely close acquaintances. The fact that this one did had rattled him much more than he liked to admit - but nothing rattled him as much as the seemingly-invincible Marianne passing out in his arms.

So naturally, when Mari woke up, the Merchant's first reaction was to stare blankly for a few moments. And then his eyes started to wet. "Y-you're okay!" he whispered. "You're o- you're okay-hay-haaay..." s**t, was he crying? In front of these kids? In front of Mari? Oh my god he was. The Merchant furiously wiped his face on the arm of his trenchcoat. He had a ********' image to maintain! He couldn't be breaking down into tears just because one of his closest friends ******** was alive and well and not dead because of some weird magick thing.

The Merchant took a few deep breaths. Okay. He was fine. Everything was fine. Mari was fine so everything was eventually going to be fine. Maybe. His Cart had been burned to a crisp, along with all his belongings and wares, but everything was going to be fine. Stop cryin' you ********' idiot. He wiped his face again.

Holy s**t, he was getting way too attached to this woman.

"Mari," the Merchant said quietly, "don't ********' do that again."

Casimir Jaunius (who has yet to be bothered to have a layout)

"Wha?-hey!" Cas gave a start as Gage began to lift them up bridal style, making his way towards the Oak. "Put me down i'm fine!" They protested despite knowing full well that Gage was going to do anything but that. The only thing Cas could do right now in their current state to resist was weakly shove and push up at his face with their hands. To no avail of course.

Eventually Cas just resigned from trying and slumped against Gage, thinking they might as well take advantage of the situation. It wasn't that Cas particularly minded to being carried like a bride. But that was their thing, carrying people bridal style was their role in the Tomas group. Meanwhile Gage's was to just stand there and tower ominously above everyone else.

They blinked at Aerykah's mention of Icarus. "Yeah where is he anyway? it'd be a shame if someone like him died." They nodded, showing just the tiniest bit of actual concern. i wish i could actually help put out these fires, but my lightning is probs just gonna make it worse.

Nina shook her head."No, i haven't seen Averill for ages, hopefully he's alright. We should hurry and go to the Oak, maybe we'll see him there." The little girl then grasped ian by his non-existent sleeves and pattered toward the direction of the Oak, pulling Ian along with her.

Naomi didn't even tell her mom why she was needed? The hell? Leave it to Naomi to be extremely vague, or something. Shaking her head, Aery offered Marinna a smile.
"Interelement, yeah. Runesteam has the medics under control, I think. Worse come to, you and I head over there cause we're both healers too. However, we got lucky. I don't think there's too many injured, and I don't believe we have any casualties..." Catching herself before going back to that possibility, Aery nodded. "A cloud? Okay. We're headed over to the Lucian dorms.

Once closer to the dorms, Aery realized what exactly she had to do. Using her fingers, she stretched the air around her out, creating what could be considered a pizza-dough shaped cluster of air. This technique, she hadn't really practiced, but she read it somewhere. It wouldn't be a perfect cloud, but it'd be a start. Once the cluster was stretched a bit more, to where Aerykah felt the limits were, she let out a shaky breath. If this worked, it'd be good and dense enough for Marinna to put water into.

Aery compressed the cluster with her fingers, creating a round ball of air, and poked the bottom of it with a finger, before taking a long breath, and inflated it like a balloon, with a very cautious and steady breath. You got this, you got this... You're blowing up a balloon. With no latex. And after a few almost baited moments, Aery had some round semblance of a cloud, with room for Marinna to soak it.

"I.. I did it! Whenever you're ready, Mrs. Pritchett."

Marianne had pushed her magical boundaries enough times that she didn't really see what the big deal was. It was just a thing that sometimes happened during times of emergencies. At the sight of Merchant's crying face her smile only seemed to grow brighter. Merchant sure was a baby! Still, seeing him cry was vaguely satisfying for some reason. Mari wondered how much it would take to get him to do it again.

"Don't do what again?" Mari questioned, eyebrows raising up a little. "Ask about whether there's a non-burning building I can get a fried heart attack at? That's pretty rude, Merch!"

Subtle, Marianne clenched and unclenched her hands. Despite their soreness, it seemed like the skin had grown back. Well, that made life a lot easier. Now if she could just find someone to give her a potion, she'd be good as new...

Ari's shoulders relaxed slightly at the sight of the rain, her temper soothing slightly at the sight. Maybe they'd be able to fix the damage before too much of anything was lost.

"Do a bigger one," Ari insisted after a moment. "I've got the hang of the wind by now. Let's just get these flames quenched and report to the headmaster or something. We're gonna need a lot of manpower for this."

Too bad they couldn't make a thunderstorm or someth--Ari paused.

"...Say, Nao, you don't think it would make a difference if we had a lightning user help us out, do you?"

Successfully making it out of the dorms behind End, Muna yanked the ribbon off of his mouth and gasped for mildly less smoke filled air. His bangs were sticking to the front of his forehead from sweat and the insides of his throat felt painfully dry. It was a miracle nothing had went wrong while they had been inside.

Ah--he still had the improb surrounding Tadion's body. Muna released it, giving a shuddery exhale at the feeling of cutting off the magic flow through his body. It was...a weird feeling, using so much magic constantly in one day. He wasn't getting particularly tired, but it was weird to use so much of it when just months ago he could barely cast a lumos.

Muna scanned for where Shanta might be, assuming that she was at least somewhat near the professor. Spotting her, his eyes traveled around the general vicinity until he finally found Professor Runestream. Muna tugged on End's sleeve insistently.

Come on, let's go to the professor

"He should be fine, I think, since he tends to follow orders," Ian managed to get out before Nina grabbed his sleeve and dragged him.

Annoyance flashed across the Jewish nerd's face for a split second before it settled back into a neutral expression. He let himself be led for a good twenty paces before finally ripping his sleeve from Nina's tiny fingers. "For crying out loud, Nina, I can walk," he snapped. With everything nearby on fire, it was hot anyway, so Ian stripped from his grey jacket and pushed up his sleeves. His scars, running up and down both sides of his forearms, were now on display, but Ian didn't seem to care. (He probably didn't.)

Ian resumed a quick pace alongside Nina, and the pair reached the Oak fairly quickly. Ian recognized Averill, albeit brunet, sitting at the base of the oak. Ian decided it would be better not to disturb him. He glanced around for anyone else he might recognize. There was Icarus, next to Iapyx (Strange, I thought he wasn't allowed on campus. Guess it's because it's a special case) and there was Scarlett and Gilrin. Scarlett looked... well, very cold. There was Ari and Naomi, doing... something with a cloud? Meh.

Ian started to lose interest, but he figured he could save Naomi a bit of headache by at least keeping track of all the Ekats. He sent her a quick message.

                                  > We're all present and accounted for.

There. Good deed done. Ian pocketed his phone and stood with Nina, watching Ekat dorms sizzle. "I hope you didn't leave anything valuable in there, Nina, or it's probably burnt to a crisp." Didn't Nina have a cat or something? Ian could swear she did.

Naomi glanced at her phone. Good, one less worry. Now she could focus on the bigger fish.

The third year pushed her hair out of her face; the wind was starting to pick up. "That's the problem, Ari, we're nearly out of water." She looked up at the darkening clouds in the sky; if only they could speed up the damn impending storm! Then they wouldn't need to create an artificial one!

                          ...wait.

"...well, not quite," Naomi said slowly, gears turning. "There's tons of water above us, if we could only jumpstart it, but... that'd be supremely difficult." For one thing, if it was a storm then they would need a sparkwielder to direct the lightning or at least transform it into a less destructive energy. For another, they would need a huge power source. Naomi and Ari were hardly adults; she knew there was no way two fledgling mages could manage such a feat--

Naomi's eyes flickered to Merlin's Oak. The pieces slid into place. "...s**t. s**t, Ari, I think I've got it, come on--" Naomi started heading right back to the Oak. Damn the Headmaster's permission, all they needed was his.

"Please, dear, call me Marinna," Marinna said gently as she mixed air with water. It didn't take long, much less time than Naomi, to create a cloud. Working with Aerykah, she sent it up and over Lucian dorms. With a flick of her wrist, Marinna released the water, and artificial rain began to pour onto Lucian dorms, dousing the worst of the flames.

As usual, sensing oncoming winds, Ari created a barrier around her own head simply so she wouldn't have to push her hair out of her face. It was a trick she learned third year when she had longer hair and while short hair was infinitely less likely to get in her eyes, Ari found it still provided useful when she was too lazy to push back at her own bangs.

As Naomi talked, Ari tilted her head up to stare at the oncoming storm. Well, at least they had picked a good day to get ******** set on fire. It was almost too lucky.

Ari paused for a moment, not immediately following after Naomi and instead choosing to silently watch the ekat go off in the direction of the oak. Wait...Naomi wasn't planning to-- "Hey! Naomi!"

Ari shouted, jogging after the other. "You better be going somewhere good with this, because I am not about to get expelled after already enduring my fair share of this ******** place."

Despite her harsh tone, Ari didn't protest the girl. She just fell into pace with her, knowing that even if Naomi did make a mistake she was capable enough to fix it herself. Besides, Ari wasn't about to stop Naomi and ask the girl to explain. There was still places on fire, and Ari was pretty sure she saw people running in and out of Janus like idiots out of the corner of her eye. They just had to get this done.

                      The end justified the means.

"No, I mean-" the Merchant wiped his face again (he needed to stop crying this was so bad for his image) and tried to collect his thoughts. "Don't- don't ********' pass out on me again, alright? That s**t freaked me out!" Did this woman take anything seriously?

The Merchant took a shaky breath. "Look, Marianne - Mari - I'm a ********' regular guy, okay? Maybe it was serious, maybe it wasn't, but I ain't got a way of knowing. In regular not-magick world, someone passing out is bad. I thought-"

The Merchant fell silent. No, that was not a good idea to mention what he thought. That was just asking for trouble, and he was really not in the mood for that bullshit right now. It was already uncomfortable, being a mundane among magicks, in what he knew was basically the magic-charged capital of the world. "Just - just - I'll get you food later, alright? Maybe the next town over didn't burn yet and we can split some takeout."

The next town over... the next town over... Oh, s**t. It was subtle, but the Merchant paled just a little. He'd better be ********, too, or I'll actually have to go check on him.

Naomi kept walking, mulling over the plan in her head. Yes, this would work, she was sure of it. All they needed was a sparkwielder to transform oncoming lightning. "I'll talk to the Headmaster to be safe," she said, waving a hand. "But I think we should be fine. All we're missing is a sparkwielder." She glanced over the Oak, looking at her options.

The only two she knew of were Cas and Shanta. Judging by the fact that Gage was carrying Cas, she doubted they would be able to do anything. Shanta, on the other hand... Shanta could actually be useful for once, perhaps. She could fly and as far as Naomi knew, fairly high on magic power. She jerked her head at the elf. "Cas isn't in much of a state, so talk to Shanta. All we need her for is to direct oncoming lightning, maybe transform its energy into something else that's not quite so destructive." She glanced behind her at the Lucian Building; it looked like Aerykah and her mother were having some success, but the orange glow of Justus further in the distance just made her more anxious.

"I'll talk to the Headmaster, you speak to Shanta, and we'll meet back at the Oak," Naomi said. "And then get ready to channel through the world's best magic cell tower."

She offered a confident grin, and headed in the direction of the Headmaster. Haha I hope this works or we are SO screwed.

Marianne was quiet for a moment, smile slowly fading off of her face until she was simply staring at the Merchant.

"Wait, you thought I was dead?" Mari questioned, voice laced with disbelief. "That's why you were crying? Cause you thought I was on my way to becoming fertilizer?"

Mari fell silent, expression unreadable. She didn't really need Merchant to confirm her questions. For a moment, Marianne's expression softened. Then a huge grin split her face, and her eyes sparkled. "N'aaaaaaw, Merchyyyyyyyyy!"

Marianne wiggled away from the base of the tree, grabbing Merchant roughly and swinging him over so she could squish his head into her neck. "That is so cute!" Mari cooed after a moment. "You are soooooooooo cute! Remindsmetonevertellyouaboutmyjob."

Making a point to give a loud, girly laugh, Mari promptly released Merchant and pushed him a bit away. "Take out sounds great! If we don't get drenched along the way there, anyways." Mari pointed to the sky. "Whatcha thinkin about? I recognize that expression of panic!"

Watching Marinna put the water into the cloud, and making it rain (literally), was quite enjoyable. Aery felt useful for a change. She grinned at the sight of the flames in Lucian going down.

Her attention was captured by Ari's shouting, and as she turned her head she watched Nao and Ari dash across towards the Oak. Looks like the fire's out at Ekat. What the hell are they doing now? When Marinna spoke again, the girl snapped out of her train of thought. "Okay, sounds good Marinna. I think the worst of them are out - what's our next plan? Looks like your daughter has something up her sleeve, should we see if they need help?" She suggested, both wanting to be of assistance, and to find out what the hell the powerhouse couple was doing.

Well, that was certainly something. At least neither of them were gonna get expelled for this s**t. The idea of channeling through the Oak did sound really fun, too. ...Though Ari had a feeling Naomi's version of 'talking to the headmaster' would be less of a conversation and more of her speaking in his direction before taking off.

She didn't comment on it, simply nodding at Naomi's idea, eyes momentarily flickering over to the direction of Cas. Her eyebrows seemed to furrow slightly at the sight of Gage carrying them. What the hell had they done? Had an elf actually gone over their magic ******** Tomas students. They were more trouble than they were worth.

"Got it," Ari offered as form of reply, flashing a smirk at the sight of Naomi's smile before jogging over to Shanta. This was gonna be a little awkward, considering Ari had literally been notified in the same span of time that somebody close to Shanta had died. Ari was no good at consoling people, so she just chose to ignore the whole idea of softening herself for the sake of Shanta's feelings. They still had an emergency on their hands, after all.

"Hey, Shanta!" Ari called out as she approached the girl, slowing down once she had crossed the distance. "Me and Naomi are about to something really ******** stupid but potentially able to take out all of this stupid ******** fire at once." Ari motioned up to the sky. "Except we kind of need a spark wielder to redirect the lightning. She said something about turning the energy into something that isn't so destructive, I honestly don't ******** know, I'm a wind wielder."

Wind wielding was so easy in comparison to everything else. All you had to do was make it bend to your will, and Ari was very good at making things bend to her will. She placed her hands on her hips. "...So, yeah, you're our only option of doing that. Ok bye."

Without waiting for Shanta's reply, Ari turned heel and immediately made her way to Merlin's Oak.
