Kaito would have to make some serious decisions in the next few minutes or certainly would run out of chakra before he could finish this fight. His choices were getting more limited as the fight would continue which would leave him with the option to leave his clones up and try to escape, or drop the clones and make an attempt to fight back. He hadn't enough chakra for both, thus he would need to choose one or the other. "s**t... Things aren't looking good for me are they hehe..." Sighing Kaito would calm himself down releasing his anger, thus allowing him to think clearly again. His options ran through his head but only one choice seemed clear to him. "I've gotta kill this guy now or else he's gonna make my life hell until either I'm dead or he is. We've gotta settle this now..." With that, one after another the clones would disperse in a puff of grey smoke and disappear.

The battlefield now consisted of just Sai and Kaito who stood just a few feet apart. Kaito would stare into his opponents blood red eyes as his barrier would disperse as well. 'Let's get this over with, what do ya think?" Grinning he would begin to weave together handseals once again. Orbs would begin forming around him as this would be his ammunition for the remainder of the fight. All he could muster was roughly thirty or so orbs with his remaining chakra but he would use them to the best of his ability.

The orbs just as before would circle his body as though they were orbiting around him. Kaito would waste no more time in this stare down of sorts as he would proceed with more handseals this time he would be forming a technique. "Here we go..." Twelve of the orbs he'd just created would leave their orbit and launch themselves at Sai moving at high speeds. Each orb would share the same target and upon arrival Kaito would slide in one more hand seal and cause each of the orbs to explode sending his scorch chakra in all directions. The Akimichi would jump backwards trying to create space between himself and Sai as a large cloud of smoke and steam would block the line of sight and clumps of dirt would erupt into the air in all directions. Kaito would stand defensively as he awaiting to see the outcome of his opponent.

Sai threw himself backwards, against his moment, to skid to an immediate halt. The muscles in his legs groaned in protest to the misuse. Eyes on the resurrected barrier before him, the man gingerly inched backwards and let a low grow roll in his throat as the frustration began to well back up. He needed to land a blow on Kaito, a decisive one... any one for that matter. All it required was one crack in the armor, regardless of how small or big, any crack would be all he needed to shatter his defenses once and for all.

But it didn't seem like he was going to get that chance, Kaito had proven once again that Sai's tactics and speed amounted to nothing in this scenario. Assault after assault, indifferent to how or where it was coming from, Kaito's barriers continued to hold strong and rebuff Sai's every attempt. His only solace came from the fact that the boy had truly thought he had done Sai in, and despite believing it himself, it was a satisfying feeling to know he's unexpected survival had greatly frustrated the boy.

... and exhausted him. It was there. All the signs clearly written on Kaito's body. The labored breathing, the heavy sweating, the slowing reactions. He watched as his opponent examined him back but he was showing none of the symptoms of fatigue, if anything he could feel his strength continuing to well inside of him - if only he could figure a way to let it out. "I think the sooner I cut that tongue out of your face, the better off the world will be.". Sai sneered, watching with large satisfaction as the clones began to disappear one by one. Was it possible that Kaito had thrown everything he had in to that one attack?

Turning the dagger in his hand over so that the blade of the weapon ran parallel to his forearm, Sai watched with mild curiosity as Kaito summoned forth more of his orbs. Perhaps he would attempt to summon the strength to do the onslaught again, but without his army of clones to protect him... Sai took a step forward. And immediately lunged backwards as the first of the orbs sped towards him. He barely had enough time to create a shield of ice to separate himself from the orb as it detonated harmlessly.

The collision and explosion of the pure scorch chakra against his shield of ice had thrown up a thick wall of smoke and steam. With in the moments to come several more orbs would smash into the ice and the area around it, eventually breaking through to land on empty ground. Sai had long escaped the location and was once again circling around Kaito.

He could feel the well of power within him drop dramatically. It was an alarming sensation but he reigned it back under control. He had released several of his jutsu, the battle was lasting much longer then expected and he did not want to over strain his body by keeping himself above his limits for too long. However, the drop in his reserves was more than he expected and the continued ebb an loss of power worried him further... just how far had he pushed himself that without his jutsu he was being drained so heavy. He cursed himself inwardly and slowed his pace down, he would need to be more careful. He couldn't afford to place himself in a situation where he needed to push his limits again.

Creeping along the outskirts of the road, his eyes trained on Kaito, he laid himself prone and waited for the smoke and steam to finally dissipate. His dagger laid just before him and he held his crossbow in a tight grip, keeping it leveled with Kaito's mid-back. Closing his finger around the trigger he listened to the snap of the bow and whisper of the quarrel as it shot out. He didn't bother to watch it fly but instead picked his dagger back up and took off into a run into the nearest thicket of bamboo.

The quarrel flew true to it's mark, piercing through the clothing and underlying armor to embed itself deep in Kaito's back. A rustle came from a thicket of bamboo to Kaito's right as another quarrel flew through the air, this time taking him by the knee. The arrow head pierced straight through, the force of the momentum taking the leg out from under him and forcing the boy into a painfully awkward kneel. A moment later two more quarrel would dig deep into either shoulder of Kaito causing his arms to slump down to either side of him, useless.

Sai lay prone deep within a thicket of bamboo, his body tensed and alert for any potential dangers. It had been a few minutes since his last bolt had been fired. Kaito had yet to move from where knelt, crumpled by the weight of his own body. Blood pooled beneath him, streams of it pouring from where the arrows had pierced him previously.

With effort, Sai prevented himself from sighing or clicking his tongue. He was unsure if this was a rouse, Kaito's attempt at playing possum to bait him out of cover. Through his Sharingan eyes, it was very obvious that the boy's impressively, grandiose had burned up all of his reserves in that one moment, the flames of his energy flickered like a dying candle. Hefting his crossbow up, he took aim once again and let another bolt fly. This one pierced through the back of his neck with a wet crunching sound, the impact rocking the body forward to fall face down. The flames of his chakra immediately extinguished.

Slowly, Sai rose to a crouch, his crossbow still trained on the downed body as his off hand pulled free his dagger. Allowing his eyes to travel along the edges of the battle, he exited from the thicket to investigate...

Going down on one knee, Sai set his crossbow down and shifted the dagger to his main hand so he could check for Kaito's pulse. The boy was still warm but his pulse was gone. Sighing, he rammed the full length of the dagger's blade through Kaito's back to where his heart would rest... he was met with a strange resistance that easily broke way but nonetheless hinted at something extra. The man frowned pulling his dagger free, blood dripping heavily from it's blade. Without missing a beat, he gripped the dead boy's hair and lifted the skull so he push the dagger through to severe the spine and skull, before forcing the rest of the blade deeper into the skull to pierce the brain.

Sai relaxed a little. There was no such thing as being to careful... memories of Wolf Kaizen and Jin Uchiha came to mind as he remember enemies who refused to go down even after such fatal blows. But this would do for Kaito Arata.

Wiping the blood and brain matter from the dagger on the boy's tunic, he sheathed the weapon and went to inspecting the body, curious as to what exactly he had felt when he stabbed his back.With careful hands he pulled the bloody tunic free - while stained with blood and had a pierce wound, Sai could easily acknowledge it's worth, there was no need to ruin it further.

For a moment, Sai simply froze. Eyes down cast, his lips a thin line, a weight seemed to come over the man as he stared down at the back of the dead body. Where the heart would be a black circle, like a beauty mark but much bigger, lay to mark the location. Blood oozed out and where the skin parted he could easily see the walls of an organ that should not have been there.

A tear rolled down Sai's cheek, a weight dragging down on his body as the realization of what he had just down hit him hard in the chest. A cry of anguish and primal pain ripped loose from deep within, borne from the blow he had just received as tears bled down from his eyes leaving red trails down to his chin.

It had only been a hour since the cart had rolled out from the small village where the trio had just battled against the mist shinobi. During this time, Sai had found himself a canteen of water from their provisions to clean his face from the blood and mud that had been caked to it. For a country that was known for it's constant rainy seasons, it had been a relatively dry day with only a few spots of rain. Currently the heavy clouds that hung above the group were holding back their water.

"Juugou, head off the main road on the first southern road we come across." He called out distractedly over the loud rumble of the horses canter. The premise of the trip, to hunt down bounties, had been fouled. They had been distracted from their original targets and after successfully killing Kaito Arata, a traitor to the Fire Country, Sai had chosen to release the body back to the Mist Shinobi that had accompanied his prey out of a sense of obligation to the shared clan. This had left the group with out a prize to bring back home... However, that was not the true objection of this trip.

Quietly, Sai watched the man who claimed to be Sorain. His older brother, closest friend and former liege. And also a man he knew to be dead for the last two decades. And yet here he sat across the man reborn. "So I noticed you were able to activate your Byakugan." He noted casually, his eyes still on Sorain, watching him with a veiled gaze, "Did combat feel natural to you?"

Sorain sat with his legs crossed and his elbows perched on his knees. Even with his eyes closed the focused intent on his face was obvious. Finally having a moment to relax, the reality of his situation began to set in again. He sat there, tracing lines between things that he remembers, things that he thinks he remembers, and things that he is certain he doesn't. Gauging the feelings of familiarity on each bubble of supposed memory, hoping to land on something solid. His concentration isn't broken until Sai speaks first to Juugou, then to him. "I did, and it did" as he speaks the silver haired man slowly opens opaque eyes,"I already gathered that I am a Shinobi. Reasonable to assume that combat would feel natural no?"

"Where are we going?"

For his first time driving a horse-drawn cart, Juugou found the experience to be somewhat therapeutic. It was easy for the young medic to let the clop-clop of the horse's hooves ease his mind into state of calm. It was because of this that he almost missed when Sai had told him to turn south whenever it was possible. "Will do." he replied, now keeping a weather eye for any signs that would point them in the right direction.

Sai and Kimono were having a very sparse conversation behind him about the Hyuuga's awakening. Kimono was being snarky in his replies which caused Juugou to frown. "Well you did have a hard time hurting a girl so maybe it didn't feel as natural as you thought. Just saying." he shrugged without looking back at the Orasakai brothers. The road would stretch for some time with no crossroads in sight.

Sai raised an eyebrow in regards to Sorain, 'So terse... he's on guard. Very clever.' The impostor was doing an excellent job of maintaining appearances but that was only the more alarming. He had assumed that, for the time being, the impostor would be unlikely to attack him and would instead be trying to earn his trust but it was becoming exceedingly more likely that this supposed 'Sorain' would attack him just to keep up the appearance of man who was lost in his own world.

"I suppose it would." He replied with a shrug, turning to watch he rolling scenery. "We're heading to a hotel, 'Toki Toki'. Truthfully, it's a spiraling city beneath the ground and is much closer to being it's own sovereign state than anything else. We might be able to find some leads on a bounty and see if there's any news circulating about us this far out yet." 'And we'll be able to find some truth as to who you really are...' But for now, the man pushed the thought from his head and forced himself to stay relaxed and open. He needed the impostor to continue thinking he had Sai's trust. "Was that a girl?" A tone of amusement reaching his voice, "Hunh... I guess anything can be a girl nowadays."

Sorain first chooses to address Juugou, he didn't care much for the results of their battle but none the less he wasn't going to let that remark go unnoticed. "Her skin was tough, but she was clearly no match for me. Had the fight gone longer I would have eventually taken her down..What would you have done? Toy with her until you both got bored of it?"

After responding to Juugou, who he was sure would have more to say on the subject, Sorain turned his attention back to Sai, the man who was leading them for the moment, who seemed to have had his mood significant effected by what he just went down, which seemed odd to him considering the fact that they had managed to take down the target. He was the one who decided to turn the body over and not collect. What was there to be brooding over.

"So I take you two are bounty hunters then? Your brother, Sorain. Was he like you?" he asked candidly. For the sake of this conversation, Sorain was willing to assume that he was not this mans brother, but perhaps learning more about him would help him to determine what exactly the link between him, and Sai's brother was.

Juugou committed the information about Tame Tame Toki to memory. He had heard tales about the place from street vendors, and couldn't fathom how it was possible for such a place to exist. The prospect of seeing it for himself brought a smile to the medic's face. Kimono piped up defensively, stating that Hanako's skin was hard and that given some more time he would've ultimately defeated her. In response to the question about what he would've done instead Juugou answered, "That's right. It was the only reason we were there to begin with. And as a medic primarily i wouldn't attempt to draw out a fight to prove a point." He paused to ponder, "Though that other girl, Arina, she sure surprised me. Back at the Holy City we had a brief altercation that lessened my opinion of her, but after today i must say that i respect her prowess as a medic." As he said this, Juugou noted that his cheeks were beginning to warm up. Luckily the Aburame was still facing forward so the others wouldn't be able to see the slight reddening.

As Kimono began to question Sai about Sorain Juugou spotted a sign that had 'Tame Tame Toki 1km' written on it with an arrow pointing southward. The crossroads was coming up soon.

Sai shrugged his shoulders, "I am more of a mercenary than anything else." A sad smile touched the man's lips. For a moment he stayed quiet, his head leaning back against the wagon as he stared into the grey sky. "I guess you could say, I always was.

But no, my brother was not anything like me. He was a visionary and a genius." He chuckled softly, his eyes falling back on the Sorain before him. "We didn't always get along but we always had each other's backs, regardless of what type of mess we got ourselves into and we used to get into a lot. But he had this dream, this vision of how the world should have been and he dedicated his life to his work... looking back, I don't know if I would agree if his methods but I followed him nonetheless and would be still if he was still alive. He led, I followed. He planned, I acted. He had the vision, I... well, I made sure those who had the power to help him, helped him... and made sure they would never be able to hinder him if they didn't." Sai shrugged again, yawning loudly as he shifted in his seat so he could lay in the back of the wagon, his eyes shutting slowly as he did.
