Jade's right eye twitches and he stops messing with his hair and straightens his legs before moving towards Nadia just that few extra inches. He does it almost without thinking it and does not have a command line in his coding to justify it. He ignores this, however, and continues speaking as his eyes flick back open, "Stronger than a normal friendship. I do not recall sending this image to you as I was compiling code and regenerating as many Units as I was able during my Regeneration Cycle. In fact, I do not believe I am capable of sending messages while I am compiling code, or taking any other actions."

He paused for a moment and his eyes flicked closed as another ripple of color passed through his body. When his eyes flicked open once more the brown coloration to his eyes had expanded slightly, moving inwards on his pupil. He continued as though nothing had happened, "My code does not allow action during my regeneration cycle, but it seems I have acted outside my base programming on at least several occasions. Do you suppose I am damaged, Nadia? There may be a memory leak active somewhere in my base programming, in which case I would need to alert the Keeper of Graves immediately for repair."

"When you sent it to me, you sent it as a question." She mentioned quickly, "As if you weren't sure where or how to apply it to something. There's no code for it, or formula, or solution or procedure. Even magic and enchantments can't reproduce it properly. It's the most complicated emotion humans can feel. Sometimes it's a distraction, or like a disease; people can find their greatest power with the knowledge and acceptance of it, or it can tear them apart inside... and leave them in ruins." Like Mindblaze. Maybe her fear had been justified after all.

"Some people notice it in a moment of clarity, or crisis heightens their awareness of it. It's in its nature to go against or break down barriers, even encoded ones. So you might just be under the effects of it and I don't think that would count as damage or something to be repaired-" There weren't enough words for her to express how much she didn't want him to take this as a malfuntion, but if that was really all it was then... "-so long as you can keep it from affecting your judgement in battle or when lives are at stake, then there shouldn't be any harm in it." She slipped her hands into his, aware of his leaning in closer to her and responding to it in her own way. Her eyes only flickered to meet his once as she spoke, and although she noted the change still creeping along his eyes she didn't draw attention to it. She lowered her voice instead.

"Do you feel different when I'm around you, Jade? If... Josie... were standing here in my place, would you act the same around her as you are right now with me?"

Jade took a few moments to process what she was saying and while he did so his eyes flicked closed. When he flicked them open to speak the brown seemed to have invaded one third of his pupil. His voice seemed to be slowly moving into one tone instead of three at once, "This seems to be an overcomplicated concept. This concept confuses and infuriates me. How can something be a disease but also grant individuals great power? If it is so powerful why must it be shrouded in such confusion and misdirection? This is not logical. This is irrational. This is not something I should be exposing myself to."

His eyes flicked closed as he paused for another few moments, giving the impression that the eyes were a sort of progress bar on a computer as they opened to reveal nearly one half of the pupil shaded in. His brief paused seemed to have given him quite a long duration to continue processing, "Though... you say it can be controlled. It must have some rational basis. Just how difficult is it to control the ma- ...fluctuations it generates within my personality? What is it that forges a stronger bond than mere friendship? What is it that draws me to you?" At the last he moved just that last little bit closer and let his forehead rest against hers, his body growing warm out from her touch against his head and hands.

She closed her eyes when he touched his forehead to her's, not sure if he was drawing something from the contact, or only mirroring what she'd done to him once before. She didn't like those thoughts, didn't like doubting. The fact that he called friendship a 'mere' thing told her that at least he was on the same page as most people; it was so hard to understand, let alone explain...

"It's complicated because it's human. It's powerful because it's tied to the heart. It's a disease because it blinds people to the past and the future, making them live and think and act only in the moment, drawing out everything they are and exposing their potential to become more. In it's truest form it is a partnership between two people who live off of and sustain one another. Two people who exist with their own thoughts and feelings and beliefs, but with a bond between them that can withstand all but death." Here she paused, having spoken quickly and in a harsh whisper to get to this point. Her hands in Jade's where shaking and she threaded her fingers through his to try and stop it. She'd had her eyes open up until this point, but now closed them, her breaths were coming in unevenly, almost gasps.

"But if one of them is killed... By accident, by an enemy, by anything at all... it can lead to the destruction of the other. Rage, jealousy, greed, sorrow, the loss can lead the one left behind to destroy themselves from the inside out. Love is so dangerous..." Her lips were trembling now, pulled back with her teeth clenched, eyes closed tightly as there were beaded tears forming along her eyelashes. Nadia shook her head, keeping her skin against Jade's, but shaking none-the-less... Her voice dropped down again so low she could hardly hear it herself.

"Your eyes are changing colour, Jade. I don't know if that's normal for you. If you're drawn to me then send me away and have your Keeper erase me from your codes. It won't kill me to love in secret, but I'd die if you had to be replaced like Mindblaze after Terra." A sob finally broke through when she choked out Terra's name. She didn't know everything but she knew enough of the old Dominion. Mindblaze had loved Terra, he'd gone against a higher power for her and been destroied. Nadia was no star, she'd been raised and coated herself in shadows and darkness for too long, but Jade had come from the same cosmic powers and she couldn't let him follow the same path.

Thoughts and processes raced in his mind and pulsed through every line of programming he had been given and then beyond into something new once more. Anger and frustration bled through his code as new strings began to create themselves from nowhere at all. His eyes flicked closed and his body temperature rose several degrees all across his flesh. He was no longer angry at the concept of love nor did his anger ever fall upon Nadia but it expanded and drew upon base programming that had been instilled in him before any other. That single name, Mindblaze, it ripped through him and only further complicated the concept he was trying to hard to understand.

His hands slipped from hers and even as they did she would feel his body temperature continue to rise as he stepped away. There were too many thoughts. Too much code. Too much new information. His head was expanding (though thankfully not literally) and the pressure from so much new data streaming in from both Nadia and this new personality was causing strain upon his systems. The room itself shook as Jade's body rippled and spikes of Jade ripped through his shoulders. She couldn't leave, he wouldn't let her. Images of Mindblaze and Terra tore through his mind, leaving fragments of code and a broken personality in its wake.

He stumbled back from Nadia and heat began to roll of his body as if he were a PC over-clocking without proper cooling systems. He had no outlet for his heat except all around him but even the environment could not be a release for the conflict in his duty and the crushing weight of what he had been designed to replace. If he was to replace such an utter failure, what if his own programming was flawed and this was his outlet to manifest it? What if Nadia was his way of defying his creators in a repeat all too similar to the damned Dominion? The massive weight of that flawed dynasty pounded down upon him and he began ripping at his chest. Chunks of heated green ooze slopped against the wall as he fought to purge the heat from his system. His mouth dropped open and out spilled a scream blazing with heat.

She should've waited.

"...Jade."

This was her fault.

"Jade...!"

She'd done this, she was killing him, or making him kill himself. She just shouldn't have told him, just not mentioned it, just gotten off the Bioship the moment she'd woken up after the surgery and left. And if she'd absolutely had to stay, had to tell him, she should have at least waited, not done it now, when he was injured and overwhelmed.

She was so stupid.

"JADE!"

Jade's Units died in heat, didn't they? The temperature around him had skyrocketed, and even if she'd been able to move there was nowhere for Nadia herself to go in the tiny room. She hated heat, maybe as much as he did and for similar reasons- it stunted both of their powers. To feel it rolling off of him and searing past her was terrifying, the intensity of it drying the tears even as they were streaming down from her eyes to watch him. He was tearing himself apart with it.

"JADE STOP! Stop i-!!!" She had her hands out, reaching up as she couldn't take it, watching him scream as parts of him bled down and splattered across the floors and walls. She clamped her hands down on both sides of his face, trying to pull him to look at her, but the moment she tried pain shot straight through her palms, wraping up between her fingers and firing down along the bones in her arms.

Later she could be ashamed of the sound she made; a scream tearing and clawing up her throat as she was hit solidly in both her heart and across her flesh. Her hands leapt away and there was such a black hatred that leapt up in her- directed right at herself for the weak reaction- that she just crumpled to the floor, hands held under her arms as she just sobbed and choked and cried miserably on her knees in front of him.

At first Jade though it was the pain from the heat that seared right through his body and tried to burn him alive. From that scream and the touch of her hands upon him came a moment of clarity as two things began to happen at once. His personal view of the world began to slow to the point where he could see Nadia's face as she cried out in pain and fell to the floor. Information poured through lines of code like a tidal wave, washing over everything that had been. This was due to the second occurrence, his base programing initiating emergency procedures to prevent catastrophic overload. His many processes were put on hold and his computer capacity routed through October to increase his power exponentially.

In an instant the room went from blazing hot to a mere fifty degrees with the ship itself screaming in pain at the sudden change. Her scream was accompanied by the shattering of dozens, if not hundreds, of figurines as they contracted all too quickly for the crystalline matrix to hold. His thoughts came in rapid bursts, even for his expanded mind. Nadia was injured. He had injured Nadia. Nadia had been a friend. He had a stronger bond with Nadia than friendship. Nadia compared their bond with that between Terra and the failure. He was not the failure. She was not Terra. It was the bond. The bond is irrational. The failure was irrational.

Jade fell to his knees in front of her with a wet slop as the last of the heat drained away from his body. Slowly the world began to return to a normal speed as his connection with the bioship was ended. It was not that Jade was failing anyone by any means, but that he was fulfilling one of his duties. He was intended to blend into a human society to find Sparks and give them Ascension. There was one major inequality that pulsed through his thoughts and bled into Nadia's HUD, Nadia=/=Star Shortly thereafter came another, Nadia=/=Terra And but one more, Jade=/=Mindblaze

These few messages scrolled upwards upon her HUD as Jade fell over her and allowed his mass to embrace her. The HUD flickered once as his weight spread over her back and down the sides though he did not press through against her skin. One message scrolled up through her field of vision that was so vivid she could almost hear herself repeat it, dangerous. He quivered before one last message scrolled into her field of vision, and was likely the most welcome of all,

'I love you. I'm so sorry... I love you. I'm so sorry... I love you. I'm so sorry... I love you...' Nadia's thoughts just spiralled along that one lone track, around and around, the words looping through one another so it was impossible even for her to know whether she was appologizing for her feelings, or offering them as the appology.

Nadia =/= Star

The heat vanished but she could still feel it, crawling along her arms and clinging to her face like an unwelcome mask. Darkness flagged down from the sleeves of the house-coat-like robe she'd been wearing since her procedure had ended hours ago. The cool shadows folded into her burned hands as the wounds weren't exceptionally bad, maybe a day or two of tenderness, a bit of shedding...

Nadia =/= Terra

"It... it's too hot..." She'd whimper, her body still shaking and eyes tightly shut against the constant flow of tears down her face. She was still sobbing quietly, even as she felt him washing down across her back. Nadia'd try to raise her head though, with the sudden weight on her it made being bent over to difficult. She was hoping he'd pull back and around enough to let her sit up, leaving her surrounded by him like a pair of loose arms. Her eyes looked sunken and under the harsh reds from the heat and her weeping, Nadia's skin was ashen.

"Hold me..." Her thoughts just kept spinning. "Please, just hold me... it's too hot..."

Jade =/= Mindblaze.

When she attempted to sit up he slid off either side as easily as if he were water, which in this case he might as well have been from the lack of energy. His body pooled around her and climbed up over her legs with a soothing chill to his flesh that made his lack of weight all the better. His arms slowly regained their shape and rested lightly upon her shoulders as flecks of color ran across his bleached-green body. His head slowly rebuilt itself after running down her sides and when it formed his eyes were held shut.

It wasn't until they slowly opened to reveal the black orbs with an iris of jade and a lustrous brown pupil that she might notice how much he had changed. Even with the color lacking from most of his body he seemed to carry himself differently and he looked to even have detailed facial expression. His half smile was a somber one as he tried to meet her eyes, a solemn look tainting the brightness of his newly finished pools of color. His voice was soft but also seemed to have a slight accent behind it that was hard to place, "Nadya, ssssshhh. Its okay, I'm sorry. I- We're okay. I- ... I love you too. I understand now. I love you too."

Nadia twisted in his arms, not to get away- she'd scream again if she was forced to get up and go somewhere right then and there- but if his legs and lower half had formed by this point she'd place herself in his lap. If not, she just curled up as close to where his torso was forming as she could. She had her face pressed against the cool, liquid flesh of his shoulder, nose close enough to brush up on his neck if she moved too much.

Her shoulders were still shaking even as he held her, but the sobs had quieted. The sound of his voice was soothing her scrambled nerves, and she had the palms of her injured hands against his torso, feeling herself being cradled like a child. Her eyes were blank as she listened to him, the tears still coming, but not in the same hot torrent as before, her skin beginning to cool and calm...

"Kiss me." She pulled her face away from his shoulder, aware that he could bend that way and she didn't have to, but still. It let her look into his eyes properly, instead of over the edge of his newly formed cheekbone. She reached up with one hand, running the unburnt backs of her fingers along the side of his face, just watching his eyes.

"Kiss me..."

His legs would indeed take their shape in what seemed to be a mostly comfortable position if Jade had been human. There were small differences to him that went beyond the alterations in his attitude and his facial expressions. They were minor but made a major impact on how Nadia would sit upon him for the simple fact that he seemed to have femurs! Not only that but anywhere else she might poke around he'd have what very closely resembled a human skeletal system, with the exception of a few ribs.

When she touched the backs of her fingers to his face he seemed to lean into it slightly and the worry in his smile began to fade as his eyes brightened at her touch. He hesitated for a moment and his eyes glanced down to her lips before he hid the colored pools behind lids that were still several shades too green. With one hand caressing the small of her back the other slipped up to mesh with her hair. He slowly leaned forward and... would probably get her nose at first.

He did, but she didn't mind. Nadia was smiling as his lips finally found hers. Her hand came up again although she didn't want him to think of the burns- they'd gone numb from the cold now anyways, very little pain remaining, but she held the side of his face gently. Her other arm had worked it's way around him, holding his back and able to feel the bones that had never been there by touch before.

Her eyes drifted shut slowly, and after a few moments she turned her face just enough so she could speak. She didn't push him away from her though, he was free to remain against her: she wanted him to.

"I love you for who you are..." She whispered softly. "And who you were... not for who you will be: though I'll love you just the same then too." She'd gently touch her lips to him a few times between words, her eyes still closed. "I don't care if you become stronger, or more all knowing. I don't mind if you change your appearance, or your voice. I love to watch you grow and change, but I'm not waiting for you to become something... I don't want a kingdom, and I don't want a throne. And if you tried to give them to me then you wouldn't be yourself anymore... and I'd be so sad..." Nadia was holding onto him, putting herself as close against him as she could manage. The hand on his face fell away, her arm wrapping around his torso instead, keeping them together.

"...Do you love me?" He'd already said it twice: that wasn't enough.

He relished the feel of her lips pressing against his each time they connected and merely found each kiss to be but a half moment too short. He also found that the shape of his spine did not quite allow him to stay in contact with her quite as much as he would have preferred but at this point anything was more than enough. Even in the chill he could feel the warmth from her body and as opposed to the hated gouts of flame and the bursts of heat her warmth simply felt... right. His thoughts were slowly crowding with everything he was taking in, but with his attention focused solely on her there would be no danger. He listened intently and his lips even found their way to her neck, kissing lightly along the curve of her neck and up towards her each with his nose just within her hair.

When she asked him if she loved her he smiled against her skin and slowly pulled back so he could rest his quite solid forehead against hers. His eyes slid open only half way, but there was something in them he had not yet truly shown. It was joy. He once again kisses her on the nose, "I love you, Nadya. I love you now and will love you even after a thousand new faces. Between us we have what two humans ever truly need, yes? Though perhaps we could use a pair of gloves." The hand that had caressed his face would feel what seemed to be fingertips brushing against it before he held her just a little bit tighter.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 10, 2008 2:47 am

He wasn't mirroring her anymore, that was what made it so easy to just close her eyes and sigh against him as she finished saying what she'd needed to, and just felt him kiss and hold her. Her body responding gently against him as a few soft sounds fluttered past her lips, and she touched a few butterfly kisses to him again. His words to her just made her smile and feel warm all over, his joke on the end made her pause though.

"...You just... Your eyes... There's joy." Her smile grew, making it almost hard to kiss him again, the emotion shining through his eyes was just so pure to her. She had to close her eyes for what she did next though, just because now that he was more solid it wasn't a simple case of moving and allowing him to re-form around her body.

Legs could be cumbersome, but after a bit of wiggling and moving against him, Nadia would settle back down into Jade's lap. Her arms would once more slip under his to hook around him as she nuzzled her face against the side of his neck. Her knees were on either side of him now, the dark material of her robe having been pushed and scrunched and simply moved out've the way. The tie was beginning to come a bit loose around her waist anyways, and with Jade's newly aquired sense of imagination and social cues, none of this should've been too hard to understand.

"Love me...?" She pressed her lips to his; soft, slow, and tender.

Just a single kiss seemed to pass into infinity as he eagerly pressed her lips to hers, possibly even slightly too hard. He wanted to feel her against him, to know every inch of her lips, of her entire body as a human should know it, not merely as a mass of amorphous flesh invading every inch of her. His hands slid down her back to grab hold of the robe and pull it back and away from where it had bunched around them. The tie came loose and fell to hang at either side, revealing the whole of her body to him. His body temperature began to rise back to that of something that resembled a human condition as the cool air danced around them.

His eyes had been closed since the kiss began but as he held her against him his eyes slowly opened with a look of confusion and regret. He reluctantly broke their kiss and let her forehead rest against hers, "I- we can't. I want to do this right. I am not yet a man. We... we should go check on Josie. But... I don't want to move. I... I like this. We fit together."
