I learned something doing this work, always let a experienced professional handle your hardware, or you may end up losing half of your RAM memory.
1 GB to 512 MB crying crying crying crying crying crying crying Technician coming tomorrow.

Kenishi the Wolf Anyone knows how to install RAM thingies? We just turn off the computer and put them on the Motherboard? It's easy, can't go wrong (: Just be sure to ground yourself by using an anti static wrist strap or hold part of the metal case. Turn everything off and disconnect things like monitors. Find the already existing ram stick(s), and slot the new one in right next to it at a slight angle. You should hear a click after applying some pressure, and there may be a lever to push to fix it in place.
Check it is installed properly by right-clicking the My Computer icon in Windows and choosing Properties. (:

I think I may have bought the wrong ype of RAM crying I installed it alright, but then the new one didn't work, then I disconnected a old one and put it in again, then the computer doesn't detect it anymore.

Lol, there's nothing to do with viruses, and anyway, I've got enough virus in my old computer. I rarely have one in my PC and I can handle them if they appear;

You need to make sure you buy the same type (DDR/SDDR) and speed (eg - PC3200) as the existing ram. It should tell you this on labels or writing on the ram stick.

I think the speed is mixed, the old one says DDR333 and the new one is DDR-PC3200, but that doesn't explain why the old one didn't work when I put it back in place.

It probably tried to run the pc133 at pc3200 speed and fried it.
