Onyx hefted himself up in the sitting postion, and smirked lightly.

"Becuase you are a surface elf. You do things not because they are to your benifit, but becuase you hope that it helps everyone else or someone in particular. you methods may be a little..dark elven, but that's expected living with Malik."

Yes, Onyx still listened in on things to make sure he knew what was going on.

"You wanted to give Zahara something special. Malik gave you an opportunity, poked you into it maybe. but you did it for Zahara. that makes you a surface elf. you didn't do it as some way to control or get her to woe you or anything like that. the methods were dark elven, the intent was not."

Though a shrug.

"I spend a lot of time in my room, playing with those little wisps, and hunting. I check in with Bode from time to time, and I wander alot. and I think your feline version is sexy. I know more than you think. just because you don't always see me, doesn't mean I don't see you. in one way or another."

"Though if you are listening, then you do know that I did it to also get back at Sevilin." She sighed. "If you had never saw me, and knew nothing of me, and only heard of my actions, the ones that you call more dark elven with thier...well intended intentions, would you still call me a surface elf? Or a drow who was a little crueler with false kindness as thier pretenses?" Said as she moved behind him, pressing hands to that spot between his wings that made them play of thier own volition, then essentially she took to finger combing through his feathers, the action loosing ones that were stuck in others or just loose enough to get unpainfully pulled out with a little gentle tugging. "And Malik didn't fall in love with a surface elf that has dark elven habits." But a shake of her head and a little smirk as she continued to comb through his feathers gently with her fingers. A little chuckle. "You do, do you? Then again I suppose an elven featured cheetah is quite the look for your kind." Personally...Piper wouldn't talk to Catawa, old genetics reminded of old times she'd rather not think of. Then a snicker. "Oh so you're watching things and eavesdropping? Such a naughty child."

"I usually find that those ranged weapons are only useful for hunting. In actual combat, its better to relly on a proficient wizard for ranged attacks."

Cedric chuckled, "The elite of the elite that I spoke to about two weapon fighting generally spoke of 'The blades have different enchantments.' They seemed to agree that is the only reaspon why having two swords is better. Skilled opponents can easily parry two weapons, as it is similar to fighting multiple attacks, but the off hand has limited foot work, which makes it perticularly easy to block." He shrugged, "Like I said before, I found that using two weapons did not help my fighting style. The off hand weapon was pretty much dead weight."

"But, a mere sorceror-knight can not be expected to fully understand melee. We really heavily on our magic to improve our swordsmanship."
PostPosted: Sat May 20, 2006 2:27 pm

"That was a side effect. not an real intention. just a selling point."

a purr at her touching between his wings. couldn't help it. though thought to her questioning.

"Malik fell in love with Piper. and he still loves Piper. and accepts that this world will change you. just like living on the surface would enivitably change him, and how he does things. the enviroment does affect all living beings. it is why all creatures develop an equilibrium with thier enviroment. and that includes the social one."

Another bit of though and a smirk.

"Just like my father before me. you don't really think he didn't check in with you from time to time through the world of spirits, do you? Or that he didn't help Naih or Aura or Bastet when he could, adn kept an eye on teh kids through such things? Dad had guardian spirits for almost everyone after a time. so that he could always protect his pride, no matter where they were."

"No, that is true. I am not about to claim a mastery or full understanding. and my magic is part and parcel to my fighting. So you use magic as well, I take it? as to ranged attack...I don't use wizards because they are far to damned flashy. tell them to hit a person three hundred yards away in a forest, and the want to throw lighting or fire through the trees. it gives you away to fast when all you really want is just that one person dead. now..for large amounts of dead bodies, wizards are skilled. But I prefer necromancers, as that the second death takes them, they become my soldiers. and they usually aren't deepfried beforehand. I find that when using the dead..you want a good body, or a skeleton. charred, frozen, damaged flesh suffers limitations as a living body might."

A little noise of acknoweldgement as she noted he more or less skirted her question directly, still pulling her hands through his wings, working along initial bone structure before working her fingers through pinions and feather layering. "But Malik did live up there for quite some time, and I've yet to see him really change. He was no softer on the surface than he is down here." And down here, a soft side to Malik was rather mythical...well when he was around everyone else. "I seems to just be...slipping." Yeah that was a good word for it. Like she remembered being so excited about seeing trees again...yet she had barely spent time around them at all. A pluck at a feather that was a little bit more well rooted than the other falling ones. "So your father still keeps tabs on me? How very sweet...though I dare say I've been part of any pack, I more or less deserted them all really." A fond smile at her own thoughts that weren't so bad at the moment. "Wanderlust...when your feet wander the land with passion...it's not easy to keep up with ones like that." Not that she would be doing that anymore. "I do miss him sometimes, and your mother as well. But I've made my choices haven't I?" Back to finger combing his feathers, building up a nice pile on the bed next to her.

"Yes, you could say that I use magic. Wizards are generally flashy because they are bored and really do not have anything better to do with their time. An excellent wizard can kill a foe without making as big scene, but rarely do so because they are just a tade bit arrogant. Powerful wizards are not afraid of mere mortals. I can smell that you like necromancers. Each school of magic, how ever you devise them, has weaknesses and strengths. Necromancers deal in life energies, which makes them a perticularly brash bunch of people, often with strange habits of ambitions. They are usualy the most common type of mage to become a lich. Undead armies, and the support spells to make those armies a force to be reackoned with tend to be the extent of their skills. I have heard iof necromancers manipulating the dead to gain the powers of the deceased, and similar other typees of experiments which make them seem to be a perticularly useful group. Undead souls have an interesting understanding of the universe, and of how they died. Scouting becomes little more than will-of-the-whisps floating through the air, comminicating with the commanding wizard."

"Necromancy is weak against clerical magic." Cedric shrugged. "Clerics have a tendancy to be better able to control the undead or destory them based of the relationship beteen the cleric and the divinity he is attached to. I meet a minotaur who probably could reduce your armies of undead to ash because of the strength of the bond between himself and the Earth Mother."

"My friend Celeste is more knowledgable on the subject of wizardry than I am, she is not overly impressed with you barriers and wards which leads me to believe that you enemies are tapping into them for information. Do your necromancer regularly rewrite the wards that you use?"

"You don't know that. you never saw malik before he was on the surface. So for all you know, and any judging from my father's attitude, he probably did mellow out some before you met him on the surface."

though a shrug.

"You could take up the idea to visit home. surely perhaps seeing the surface again would spark some joy, and old friends as well. This is malik's world, his natural home. thus, he's the same as he ever was. for you, this is still a different world. your used to it by now, but it's not your place."

Malik nodded lightly.

"True in all accounts. the undead are susceptable to clerical power, unless, said cleric is on land completely devoted to the god that fuels necromancy. Necromantic barriers and defenses are rather...harsh. for example, a necromantic barrier would have probably killed you or put you in a decent amount of pain upon your arrival, as I was unaware of whom you were. also, they do not usualy provide warning to someone coming. they just activate, and are usually very strong and deadly. they are designed to keep everyone out, not just those you might not care for."

"Though I will take that assessment into advisement. this Celeste...perhaps she can help with the understanding of such things. I'm no wizard anymore than I am solely a swordsman. or perhaps Roarke can assist. if you haven't already surmised, the necromancers did not create the barriers and wards. however. I will see to it that soem more defenses are added. as much as Kimmuriel and his ilk at present are shaky allies, they are my enemies."

PostPosted: Sat May 20, 2006 3:50 pm

"You can't say that...and I can tell you, it's not so much...I've seen things of his past, not all of it but most. If anything, he's more controlled than mellow. Mellow is not a word found often in his vocabulary, honestly." Still pulling feathers, working with utmost knowledge it seemed. Piper wrinkled her nose a moment at him. "Do you just let these tangle as they may and not groom yourself?" Or he was loosing more feathers than he could keep up with. And was this the most she had talked in two days? Perhaps. "You're saying I don't belong here?" It was an interesting thing that he had said that, he was the first to say it as well...well the first to say it that knew her personally.

"It wont matter unless you rewrite you defenses frequently. Celeste will not help you. Roarke may, though he is very strange for a magic user. He has power, yet he does not like to evoke it." Cedric shrugged,

"Necromatic auras are easily detected and counter measured. Abjouration may have limited uses, but in defeating magic of singular school in origin, I doubt you can do much against it."

"As for consecrating necromantic energies into the ground, and believing it will save you from a cleric, I can understand. But only a high priest will dare to attack you, and wizardry is no match for divine will."

"You plane must have little interference from the gods, as you seem to feel that they will not intervene."
PostPosted: Sat May 20, 2006 4:55 pm

"See that's what your missing. it's not wizardry, it's one divine will against anothers. lets take the obvious example. the Earth Mother...her powers are muted, canceled, in areas highly devoted and consecrated to the Sky Father, who also happens to be the patron of Necromancy here, from my understanding. Thus, a necormancer, who worships the sky father, may through that worship, devote his lands and his home and those undead in his service to the Sky Father, through mystical or totemic means. in that manner, when a powerful priest of the Earth Mother comes calling, they may very well find thier powers nullified, thier link severed."

This was of course a nice topic of conversation for him.

"And so many people assume that the creation, enhancement, and dominion of the undead is the greatest power the Necromancer wields. it's not. just his most intimidating, and visual. the true power of a necormancer comes in the manipulation of the powers that create and dominate life. mana siphons, lifetapping, siphoning of strength, agility, stamina..physical attributes. not to mention poison and disease. a single undead can be used to kill a kingdom. and not even by surviving. all it has to do is bite one person, touch one person..slice one person. get a deadly and highly contagious disease..and a kingdom can fall to one necromancer's pet."

"Not to mention not all necromantic pets are strictly undead in nature."

Onyx shook his head.

"I spend fourty minutes a day grooming. they just kep falling out. It's beginging to worry my twin. and irritate me. see, he hasn't mellowed, just become more controlled. that comes with age."

Okay..did he just put his foot in a beartrap?

"Well. what I ment was that your not designed for this enviroment. you body isn't, and mentally your not. what you call becomeing more 'drow-like' is simply your body tryign to adjust, to find the equilibrium. Unlike Malik, or Zahara, as they were born to this kind of life. they don't have an equlibrium, as much as specialization. this is thier place that thier body is most at home and completely designed for. hence malik doesn't climb trees, has trouble seeing in bright lights, has a more somber attitude, probably can't swim. becuase here thre is no great light, water sources are filled with dangers moreso than the surface, his eyes are designed to see in the dark, and there's nothing down here to really call a tree. your body knows what a surface world is, and coudl move and surivie there as easily as malik does here. malik would have a harder time."

A small grin.

"Or do you forget the stories about having to practiaclly dragon him into the open world from his home? that's why. the castle, for all it's size, is liek the underfoot. corridors and roofs and darkened. that's why he didn't like trips then, and why he's more than willing to travel down here. I bet you take him to andal, he'll do his best to stay indoors."

"Lay on your stomach and flop your wings out." If she was an elf, she would probably be a verternarian by profession, wouldn't she? Most likely...she knew her animals after all. Though she noticed that he again avoided what she had asked on, taken a different more technical route, leaving out emotional and mental ones. Talking of body rather than state of mind. Though he had mentioned mentality for that split moment. "Adjusting...I've had twenty years to adjust, I think I'm fairly well so." She shook her head again. Piper had in some respects become more kin to dark then light, her eyes for instance were more sensative...which was interesting with her being a moon elf in looks and all. Then a blink, and somehwhat of a smile. "You do hear a lot don't you...and you've been told many a story it seems as well." Though yes that smile fell some. "Why do you think I avoid the subject of Andal...I highly doubt he'd be willing to wander where I may. And even if he did, just to please me, he would be more or less miserable. Avoid the subject of Andal, surface visits in general, large 'everyone included' wedding, and children." A blink, that was rather drow of her too wasn't it? Ignoring and brushing off that which displeased her, regardless of anyone's personal feelings on it. Even those of whom she called a'mael.

"I am well aware of the destructive powers disease has over kingdoms. IN this Labyrinth of kingdoms, there are a significant number of ruins where there are no signs of battle."

"I am also well aware of the many purposes of Necromancy, as I to can use it. Necromancy is life magic, after all."

Cedric did not study the gods very much, and only had his experience to base any argument on, so he shrugged. "The Earth MOther is a more powerful deity than the Sky Father. In an actual contest of strength or will, I cannot imagine the Sky Father wining..." The elf paused, "If he did, there would be a very special reason why. Probably defeatable as well."

"I am also aware of what creatures a Necromancy might wish to build."

Meilikki joined the conversation, only because she found it interesting and knew enough of the gods to participate. "While the Earth Mother would win agianst a fight with the Sky Father himself, two clerics of the opposing gods would simply null each others powers. When you set out to rescue me, Malik, I imagine that my acestors gave you some token to come within the Sky Father blessed ground. The items worked to cancle out the Sky Father's influence. The same would work over ground blessed by the Earth Mother."

"Perrhaps unfortunate, but it avoids large scale wars based on religion. There is no point in fighting when neither god can win."
PostPosted: Sat May 20, 2006 6:09 pm

"Exactly. See, perhaps one on one, the power of Life defeats Death. but speaking from a clerical, blessed ground standpoint, they cancel eachother out."

Though a very pleased grin.

"You can study necromancy..and you refer to it as life magic. is life magic your ace up teh sleeve, Cedric? but for the powers. I have a special surprise in store for later use. an experiment I have been working on to combine several schools of magic into one creature. if things go as planned."

Though his eyes turned to Meilikki and Aella.

"Though I have the feeling this conversation will get back to Kimmuriel in one form or another. I may have to prepare for the princling enivitable assault. and I know he was here. wether he admits it or not, his emotional attachment to these two is very strong. So Cedric...if you woudl perhaps, wish to play the devil's advocate for me...Tell Kimmuriel that he doesn't have to play games of hide and seek. he is not my enemy, as of yet. and as such, I am willing to let him see is female companion. On the grounds that he arranges something for me. Jiscal..I want him, and if needed, his woman...brought to me."

Onyx did as he was told, and chuckled lightly.

"And that is the whole reason he will prod you until you go. You complain about the surface elf in you slipping away, that you're not the person he fell in love with. now you have the perfect opportunity to be able to revitalize that part of you, and you choose not to becuase you worry about his discomfort. which do you think will be worse? for you to stay here, and as you put it..slip more and more until you are just a pale skinned drow, and not the woman he loved, or make him put up with you taking him to the places of your youth, which I'm sure he'll find fascinating or at least tolerable, and revitalize your 'lighter' half."

A slight grin.

"And you know damned good and well he would get such a kick out of being able to walk in a Fier'dal or Moon elf city as a drow and them not able to do a thing about it."

She returned her gaze to her book, fifteen more minutes. Would she survive? She wasn't positive she would. But then he wasn't' going to let her off early and she knew that. Of course she snapped up straight when his fist banged against the table and narrowed her eyes. "I don't have an admirer, or maybe I do, who really knows. Malik seems to think I do..." She let that sentence trail off for a moment and then shrugged, "I don't have any say in what Kimmuriel says or does. He does what he wishes despite what I think." It didn't bother her really, but she did wonder about what he meant. Were those two around somewhere where he knew it? She glanced around briefly and then tapped her nails lightly on the book.
