Vanessa’s brows furrowed. “‘Poof house?’” she asked as they stopped.

The rain fell in a sheet just outside the dragon’s wing, water rushing through the streets as if determined to turn the roads into rivers. The drum of the rain on Plushy’s wing grew to neigh defining, the clash of the thunder rumbling through the city only adding to the noise--to the music of the storm.

“Yes, Plushy,” Vanessa shouted, looking to Plushy. “The ‘place with no magic glass.’ I have to make sure everyone there’s safe, then I need to find someone.”

Here you go. Not that it probably matters anymore. Ha. Not sure if I should quote Rikku... Meh, I'll quote him anyway.

Where We Are (the Defender's Town)

Weather: The storm rages on. The rain has flooded a few lower parts of the city, making driving dangerous and walking treacherous. The thunder booms with a rage, and the lightning has grown tired of flitting between the angry-looking clouds and begun to strike from ground to sky. A few sections of the city suffer from power loss, while others still have power--for now. Many have begun to wonder if a hurricane has come upon them without warning, while others hope it is only as simple as the worst storm of the year.

Time: 6:45 in the evening.

So, I’m not entirely sure how much time would have passed since the last time/weather update, so I just kind of put a time to start with.

Really, Rikku? Sweet! Kind of surprising! Ha. mrgreen I look forward to your post. As a reminder, just in case, don't forget that you have two NPCs out on the field: Noci and Segmon.

Like I said to Me Know It All (my grammar Nazi self won't let me not capitalize that peacefully), I would apologize, but I think that's a bit of a too well-sung song. Life got crazy hectic, and, honestly, I all but forgot about this RP until I ran into a folder with pictures saved for it.

In my next character post, I’m going to put pictures of the characters, if no one minds. Thought it’d be a good refresher--if not for you guys, then for me!

After eating their delicious meal--Saiirin devouring enough for a dragon three times her size--Karinda sat on the couch in the living room, the paper with the name, description, and address clutched in her hands while Saiirin laid curled on the seat beside her, the small, still-glowing dragon dozing off.

With Loki and Jarod downstairs browsing the library and Noci wherever she was, Karinda slowly folded the paper in half, momentarily admiring the smoothness of the paper and the perfect precision of the letters printed on it.

“Thought you said that wasn’t your concern.” Rodger leaned on the top of the couch above Saiirin.

Karinda sighed. “One can still be curious. Do you recognize the name or address?” She handed him the piece of paper.

He took it and quickly glanced over the information.

“Alexander Geen,” he said slowly, rubbing his chin as if a beard grew there. “Sounds familiar, but I can't place it. Peakers Drive’s on the south side of town, though. It’s a couple miles away.” He unfolded the paper and quickly looked at the back before returning it to Karinda.

“Grammercy,” she muttered. She sighed, folded the paper into a square, and shoved it in the single, partially hidden pocket on the front of her hoodie.

“No problem.” Rodger patted the couch then went to the kitchen.

“Do you require any assistance?” Karinda stood, the motion making Saiirin raise her head groggily.

With an irritated grunt, the small dragon rested her head back on the couch, looking for all the world like a scaled cat with horns, her wings tucked tightly against her body.

“No, I can handle it,” Rodger called from the kitchen. “We have this amazing machine called a dish washer. You put dishes in it and it does the rest of the work for your.”

“Fascinating!” Karinda mused, stepping back to the large window consuming most of the living room’s wall opposite the door. She glanced up as the lights flickered overhead before looking back to the storm raging outside the window.

“Don’t worry about the power going out.” The sound of running water and dishes clinking together accompanied Rodger’s words. “The library’s got its own power source. It actually uses the lightning.”

Karinda gave a small smile. “I have no fear of the dark,” she assured him, glancing back at the kitchen doorway. “In truth, if I needed, I have a dragon who would make a superb torch at the moment.”

Silence thy tongue least thou wish to lose it, came Saiirin’s groggy, mental words.

Karinda’s smile widened, and she turned her attention back to the window.

Droplets of rain pelted the glass as the wind whipped them around, each drop of rain splattering in an extravagant show before sliding down the window, leaving thousands of streaks and beads of wetness.

The thunder pounded vigorously, many of the thunderclaps overlapping each other as if in a competition. The lightning lit the sky constantly, sparking over the wet rooftops scarcely visible in the downpour.

Karinda leaned her shoulder lightly against the window. She scowled as her reflection looked back at her, the dark mark of the rose and its vines woven around her silver markings glaring at her mockingly.

She scowled and raised a fist as if to beat her reflection, but decided better of it last minute. With an angered sigh, she placed her palm against the cool glass.

She placed her other hand in the pocket, fingering the piece of paper.

Wherever you are, wretch, she thought, crinkling the page as she balled her hand into a fist, I'll find you. And you will talk.

Her Weapon (New Picture)

Vanessa started jogging once more to keep up with Plushy, her long hair whipping around in the wind from its tight ponytail.

Vanessa gave the dragon a small smile at his offer to aid her in her search. “No, he’s inside the building--at least, he should be--and I don’t think you’ll fit. He’s gotten word of a rogue sorcerer coming to town, targeting one of the families here. If you see or sense anyone who might be him, let me know. It’ll be worth an extra bunch of bananas.” Vanessa winked at him encouragingly, unsure if he saw the action.

They soon stopped outside the building, the lights visible through the mostly glass walls flickering violently as a couple lightning bolts struck somewhere in the city. Shadows danced around, creating the only moving things in the lobby visible through the doors.

“Thanks, Plushy! Be safe!” With that, she created a dome of searing light above her, the rain sizzling into steam from its intensity and keeping Vanessa mostly dry as she ran to the building.

Inside, Vanessa pulled out her cell phone, went to her contact’s number, and called. It rang twice before he picked up.

“Hello?” the shifty voice asked.

“Clayton. It’s me.” Vanessa looked around the deserted area as she strode down one of the tiled halls, the lights flickering again. “I’m here. Are you in the basement with the others?”

“Wouldn't be on the phone with you if I were, would I?” The voice garbled slightly. “I’m in my office. Use the stairs. I wouldn’t trust the elevator.” He paused. “I’ve more to tell you about than the stupid wizard. Hurry.”

Vanessa’s expression hardened. “I’ll be there shortly. Just make sure the forcefield gets put up around the building. These people weren’t thinking when they made this place!” she scowled.

“It’ll be up before you reach the stairs.” The call ended with a gentle click.

Vanessa replaced the phone in one of her jeans pockets, then hurried to the stairwell. Lights hung on the wall against which the carpeted stairs rose.

She hurried to the stairs and began to ascend to the tenth floor where the man waited in his office. Despite the signs hanging by each door at every landing, Vanessa counted each level as she passed.

One… two….

The lights flickered dangerously again, the sound of thunder a low rumbling from behind the walls.

Three… four….

The lights in the stairwell went out with an angered buzzat. Vanessa scowled as darkness flooded the area, catching her off guard half way to the fifth floor. She paused, waiting for the generator to kick on.

A minute passed, and worry the generator had failed began to seep in. Slowly, she carefully began to climb up further in the dark, feeling out each step to avoid tripping. Finally, as she stepped onto the fifth floor landing, new, softer lights clicked to life as the generator turned on.

With a relieved sigh, she turned to continue her ascent.

Plushy

“No, he’s inside the building--at least, he should be--and I don’t think you’ll fit. He’s gotten word of a rogue sorcerer coming to town, targeting one of the families here. If you see or sense anyone who might be him, let me know. It’ll be worth an extra bunch of bananas.” Plushy answer, "will do." he smile at vanessa wink. So now he had a mad wizard to find. “Thanks, Plushy! Be safe!” "You worry too much." Plushy said.

Plushy walked around the office place, in the storm. The lights suddenly went out. Thought these big glass boxes had back up powers to keep the lights on...? Plushy look around the base, found the generator not plug in and the storm had damage it some. Plushy poke it with his tail, pushing parts into place. Plushy learn how to fix these from his humans. A few minutes latter, Plushy had fix it, he plug it in, the lights came back on. Plushy slowly place the generator back in it safe place, waves of force bouncing about. must be a shield, not magic, though magic works better... Plushy thought, the storm still going boom boom.

((thinks the time is about 7:00, was when the potluck was to be, but it got canceled by the storm, plushy was taking the last kid home when the house went poof, looks like a swimming pool now...?))

Robin & Willow:

Robin had been playing with a yo-yo for several hours as he waited for everyone to return. He hated guard duty, oh it would be fine if the prisoner was a cute twenty something with an ample hourglass figure and an affiliation for skimpy clothing, but the stinky tramp-like man opposite him didn't quite fit the image he desired. Not that it even mattered since the guy had spent so long yelling insults at him that Robin had rendered him unconscious.
He watched as the yo-yo spun suspended in the air for a moment, admiring it's illusory weightlessness as thoughts of his old life drifted back to him, they only came in dribs and drabs but it was better than it used to be, a flash of orange hair, a pair of figures dancing, a disturbing blackness. All these things seemed so far and distant to him that at times he scarcely believed them to even be true memories, but he had little else to go by.

His moment of self pity was interrupted by the ever more familiar swoosh sound beside the fireplace.
"It's still odd don't you think, for a church to have such a fireplace?" He commented as the dark tall figure of Willow stepped out of the shadows.
"I believe it was part of the old building, Harriet and I found it after we knocked some of the walls down for more room." She paused for a minute staring into the dark orange flames, pulling her scarf a little tighter.
"Has he spoken yet?"
"Not about anything relative, he passed out before i could even start torturing him". Robin answered casually, continuing to play with the yo-yo.
"Pity" she walked over and took up a seat opposite her slender companion, "any word from those other idiots?"
Pocketing the yo-yo Robin scrambled around in his pockets, "Just one from our dear Harriet" he passed the thin white envelope to Willow who wasted no time in opening it.
"Huh..."

Noci:

"Hey Mrs K.." Noci had appeared silently sitting on the table with her head down, "are you okay?"

Segmon:

Following the pair he couldn't help but marvel at the sheer size of the dragon, though despite its size it didn't give off a very intimidating aura. He tried to listen in on the conversation only to see them split up. 'Well at least I'll get of the rain' adjusting his jacket he made to follow silently after Vanessa.

Karinda glanced over at the nickname Noci had given her. She shouted in surprise as the wind blew a branch into the window. She jumped back, flames sprouting to life above her open palms as her heart raced, Saiirin raising her head and spreading her wings as Karinda’s panic spread through her.

“What’s going on?” Rodger appeared in the doorway, his gaze alert as Karinda sighed in irritation at herself for being startled by such a simple thing.

“Simply the storm jesting.” Karinda extinguished her flames and turned to the two open archways in the wall to her right.

Saiirin snorted. ’Tis impossible to slumber with one such as you present, the dragon through as she laid her head back down.

Then go slumber elsewhere, Karinda bit back, making Saiirin blink at her in surprise as the girl went to where Noci sat and Rodger ducked back into the kitchen to finish wiping down the counters.

“Nay, Noci,” Karinda answered the girl’s earlier question as she sat, a hand rising to finger the dark marks. “Do you perchance possess any knowledge on that… woman who was here? Any at all?”

As Vanessa neared the end of her stair climb, she paused. She could have sworn that she heard an echo to footsteps besides her own. Her eyes narrowed as the sinking feeling that someone followed her settled in the pit of the stomach. but she kept her gaze straight ahead and continued to the tenth floor.

Entering the hall beyond, she let the stairway door slam shut behind her as she glanced down either side of the hallway. The eerie backup lights cast a hue over the hall, one of the lights flickering. Slowly, she made her way to the lobby on that floor--a small room with an empty desk and two, simple chairs—then to the other end of the hall.

Stopping in front of one of the last doors right by a wall made of glass, she knocked.

“Who izzit?” the grouchy voice called.

“It’s me.” Vanessa glanced down the hall, ever watchful of the stairway door in case anyone strode out.

A moment passed as the rustle of someone unlocking the door came from the other side. When it did not open, she took the liberty of opening the door and entering the corner office beyond.

Two of the four walls consisted of sectioned windows, the thick glass casting an even darker tint over the raging storm outside. A gentle wave of energy rolled over them occasionally from the outside, providing proof that the man had indeed placed a protective barrier over the building.

Two high-backed chairs sat in front of a large, elegant desk, papers, pens, and a couple books strewn messily atop it. A lanky man stood behind it, his sleek brown hair slicked back with enough gel to hold a horse in place. His nose ended almost in a point, and a frown pulled at his thin mouth. He hunched over the desk, his hands gripping its edges.

“Lock the door behind ya,” he ordered without looking up.

Vanessa nodded and did as he bade.

“Thanks for coming.” The man moved one piece of paper from one messy stack to another, then ripped a second in half before tossing it to a trash bin at the side of the desk as Vanessa approached. “Have a seat.” He gestured to one of the chairs before placing a vanilla envelope into a drawer. “There’s a lot to talk about.”

“So it would seem, Clayton.” Vanessa reached for a pen and found a pad of sticky notes partially hidden beneath a stack of colored papers.

“Don’t knock anything over.” Clayton finally spared Vanessa a glance before looking back to the thick page he held in his hand, a few clippings attached to it. “Doesn’t look like it, but everything’s organized.”

“I don’t doubt that. But before we get to business,” Vanessa began writing on the top sticky note, “how’s the wife?”

She tore the sticky note from the stack and held it out to Clayton as he looked at her questioningly. His gaze shifted to the note, and he scowled as he read it: I think I’m being followed.

“Wife’s good.” He snatched the sticky notes, grabbed a pen of his own, and wrote in small lettering at the top: By who? “She’s at home with the kids,” he continued as she wrote No idea below his question.

His scowl deepened and he made his way around the desk then to the door.

“Clean-up after the storm’s going to be a pain.” He stepped to the door, placed his ear to it, and closed his eyes, holding up a finger for Vanessa to wait as he listened for any abnormal sounds.
