The latest kickstarter has me seriously worried about Gaia's future.
Threatening to permanently remove a gold shop unless the community as a whole pays up at least so much is not unlike mafia-style extortion.
If they seriously start pulling stunts like that now, then they're basically saying, " We're gonna force people to sink their gold to combat the inflation or we're gonna start taking features away. " which, if it comes to that, will only further kill the site.

Christ, that's bleak. Inflation and pointless bullshit gold sinks seemed rampant back when i was last on Gaia. Nice to see thing's haven't changed.

It's the perfect scam, in essence.
Setup a BS goal that's nothing more than, " Sink a shitload of gold to not lose a site feature. " that just so happens to have reward tiers that give more incentive for people to buy gold generators in order to have the gold to sink, with the promise of small rewards along the way so we get something outta it.
End result? People spend money to buy gold that immediately gets removed from the system, just so we can then spend more money to buy some crappy recolors. The fact that we could potentially lose a site feature only adds panic to drive more people to it. Basically, Gaia's making money off of fear.
They're going back and forth lately. Something really stupid, followed by something kinda good, then really stupid, then good again, etc.

Yeah, the guild has effectively become the cantina itself at this point. Just a place to come and have a few drinks with your buddies.
The Death Star kinda blew all the rebels to Hell, so there's not much else to do around here anymore other than that.
