Lucind Varhetel For real? I mean, that was my first serious question/statement concerning this subject..
Not really the stereotypical Caribbeans pirate everyone thinks of at first, but Asia had it's fair share of pirates too, which actually were considered much more dangerous and deadly than western pirates.
Then you gotta take in the fact that ninjas were at times pirates too. Though I guess it'd be more fitting to call them buccaneers, since ninjas rarely acted for their own profit. Usually, they were hired by richer people to do dirty work. =o

Pirates are a worldwide thing, even today. Ninjas are all... japanese, even today. Ninjas may not have had much exposure to Pirates of the Carribean, but AZN pirates were just as, if not more, hardcore than the rum-drinking sunbathers you're thinking of. And some of them were more or less ninjas in their own right, due to being badass sneak-thieves.
