I'm making a bomb chicken dinner so I can fully focus on my several fights.
However, I've an announcement.
I will.... earnestly and seriously enter GTB VII. With a character I've already designed for it, sans any form of supernatural ability.
Fear and lament the day!

You gay. I won. Also, why is this OOC so dead, holy s**t. This is more dead than HoH's OOC after the finals and there were only like 3 people still checking that. Incidentally, I gotta give you props Vintrict. Thinking about actually fighting in a GTB has me retooling the old Omi bag pretty harsh. Even finally implementing a resource system, something I've fought for years. Faggy.

Ehh, the only way I can win is if my opponent gets a s**t ton of points taken off for OOC bashing. So I must prepare for third place. emotion_dowant

YummyBiscuits Marx is my only character with a system, man. And I hate it. It's not natural. See, I agree. I used to fight such a thing for ages because it just didn't feel intuitive to the character. I even got him into tournament after tournament where they asked for it, because I made a good case on stipulations so he didn't need it, but.. I finally thought up a pretty fly way of doing it where it doesn't ruin how the character operates, but still ensures fairness. Soon as I stop vomiting up mucus and s**t, I'm gonna write it into action.

With most people going for the cool guy shooting lightning out of his d**k hole, it throws a real wrench in their engine. The one character who is fighting in the exhibition arena, ( not the one against Colonel, he falls into the other category. ) you'll see he just uses invocation magic to transform an earring into a badass weapon. No systems there, besides post amounts, etc.

No systems there, besides post amounts, etc. Actually, you'd be surprised. Most RPCs on Gaia who enter tournaments tend to be characters with passive effects. The problem is they try to shoe-horn assloads of actives in when they don't need it too but, fact remains. I feel probably the strongest characters are those who balance equipment with passive effects tbh. Not to say ability laden characters can't be broken -- fact they're most easily broken because the more abilities you have, the easier it is for them to overlap and have retarded synergy. That's why I tend to limit my supernatural characters to one forte ability and then some minor passives/actives. But, passive oriented characters tend to be more easy to break in subtle ways. For instance, fags who have super thick bones/body structures (typically part-dragon or vampiric or what have you), who then decide it's fine to wear plate mail in tournaments. It can be mundane s**t, they're still a walking tank. Then almost universally, they try to argue their way into one small ability or two that seem to be little, like.. "quick dash of 5-6 ft" --- typically, they'll try to shoehorn in some brief strength steroid and disguise its power by making it a low percentile number, forgetting that because they're so powerful base, that number scales up big time and they're being big hulking retards. With just that alone and nothing else, I'd deem the character more broken than some super-woowoo mages I've seen, at least in a tournament.

Or putting something on a dice roll. So no longer is it a narrative driven ability but rather "well I hope my opponent rolls under X so I don't have to respond to what I just did being tossed out thanks to a random number". Then the people who think they can do crazy s**t with it because it is a chance to happen.
Keep dice rolls to actual systems, imo.

With just that alone and nothing else, I'd deem the character more broken than some super-woowoo mages I've seen, at least in a tournament. Those abilities are only for stupid people. Who wants to wear ******** plate armor though? It was designed to stop projectiles, like crossbow fire, and the rain of arrows that developed in the Middle Ages. In a duel type environment, you want something that has the perfect ratio of mobility/protection. Chain, and partial plate is the way to go, and it really helps even out the characters who have that sort of natural body ability. Then again, I've always used a simple point system. Since I started in the dueling circuit, abilities like that will usually make me stop from using armor, and tying it with a natural armor. Way too powerful. Like you said, it's for fags. My usual combination is a weapon Adeptitude, a few passive abilities, and then a group of active abilities that fall under one general ability. Marx is the best example; Sword master, Prana Mage, Djinn natural abilities. The prana serves as an advantage and a disadvantage in one, making Marx something hard to use.
