Celeblin Galadeneryn Kat and Cu: My history classes were... surprisingly objective then. When got to the sixties it would be like "And here is how we ******** the Natives up the a** and why we're giving them free tuition and letting them fish all they want." xD My classes in high school were like that as well. It was a British Empire/Canadian government bashing free-for-all when it came to anything to do with the Natives. I took a History of Empires (Read: History of Imperialism) elective last term. I think the prof had a kind of schizophrenia on the subject, based on he could bash and congratulate the British Empire in the same sentence. xD There was also a lot of America bashing in that class. xD

Then I had Mr. Smith, whom I shall remember fondly for the rest of my life. He was the first teacher I ever heard speak the truth about Christopher Columbus's interactions with the Natives. He was the sort of guy who had no qualms about saying when some beloved historical figure was actually a b*****d or a crotchety p***k who just happened to do the right thing. Plus he told the best stories. mrgreen

Fiddlers Green I hate it when that happens Nuri. neutral Deo, my Amesha request a source of fire be kept when you go to sleep, or when you are awake in the dark. It could be a match or the like, but it is sorta important for them to help ya. So, right, one of my World Religions instructors said that Zoroastrians worshipped the God of Abraham and that, like Christianity, it was a direct descendant of Judaism. this is why the Islamic conquest of Persia was so Peaceful and Compassionate. scream Third class I have been expelled from for calling the teacher a liar or a fool and demanding better service for the ridiculous rates I was paying for his "services". I'm so glad that I have the prof I did for my comparative religions class; the woman is seriously one of my heroes! She's a cultural anthropologist who studies the various people on pilgrimage to Rocamadour. Seriously, I would do anything to have her job! And I can't wait for the day that she takes over as head of the anthropology department at my uni because the current head totally idealizes the cultures that she writes ethnographies on and it drives me crazy! My intro to sociology prof was also pretty amazing. He began our class by telling us that "I will crush any nationalistic fantasies you've ever had about America"... I have him quoted on my facebook profile stare As for history, I got my childhood historical education from my grandfather because he knew that our school system would teach us s**t.

I think sociology professors are just generally awesome, Rajani. On the first day of class, my sociology prof said, "If you are conservative, this class WILL offend you. Feel free to write it on the professor evaluations at the end of this quarter--I think last semester a student wrote that I tried to turn them all into gay feminazi liberals. It's happened before, and I really don't care."

Though he was referring how most planners tend to go left, since we have to uphold the greater good and utilitarianism when designing cities. And how we tend to offend civil engineers and architects. xD

He's a Christian Palestinian who hitchhiked his way to Texas so that he wasn't forced to become a lawyer. Think about the logistics doing that. That class was a trip and a half.

Feeling any better Nuri?
I've been hacking up a lung all weekend and haven't been able to talk since Thursday night. I've never been more glad that I'm not majoring in opera anymore!

We totally ******** over the Natives in the late twentieth century (and a lot of other times, but focusing there for a sec) which eventually boiled over into things like the Oka standoff, and thus why we have what basically amounts to reparations for them.

It's safe to say my best History teacher in High School was a lady named Mrs. Dowdy. She taught us AP juniors like she would a college class on American History, basically. We had group projects (One was to make a children's book about the Revolutionary War), our tests were essays over an article or certain questions about a section in our hilariously dry humored book, she would call America hypocritical (Imperialism? NEVER America) and forget dates and tell us the real personalities of Abe Lincoln and Hitler and the like.
Was a very fun and memorable class.
