Nelowulf I stand by my former opinions, as made by numerous rereadings of the tale already. I needn't reread it again to only solidify my point. I guess we will have to agree to disagree, but you really do give short-shrift to the poems and songs of Lord of the Rings.

Some people read Don Quixote as some paradigm of the tale of the fallicies of western civilization, and nothing more. Others instead focus on the madness that trusting something too much can breed. Regardless of how you choose to interpret a book, to me, enjoyment is far better than trying to profess a right or wrong way to read it.
And such, I do think that the poetry and songs of LotR really are written in a far more background context. They didn't present themselves as being nearly as forward as in the hobbit. If you focused on them, good for you. However, I did not see them as being really anything which added to the story compared to the literature which surrounded it.
Feel free to disagree with an opinion, so long as you realize that it's merely an opinion, and in such, we're both as much right as we are wrong. :/

Actually, the entire purpose is to get people to argue about this very thing so that they're forced to settle their differences by buying everything just to have all the sources available to point things out to each other, while the mastermind behind it all walks away with a ton of money.

They're gonna use Indiana Jones? They should've gone with Han Solo. He's a way better actor.
Yes, I'm aware of the irony of what I just said. That's the joke.
